I imagine the classroom with children scared to death and watching their peers shot. These kids still made drawings for their parents. It's so unbelievably, deeply sad and gruesome.
There was an incident in Alphen a/d Rijn some time ago in the Netherlands where visitors of a shopping mall were killed in a shooting as well. The perpetrator killed himself. A national debate ensued on gun control, which frankly is the only healthy national debate to be had after such an event.
Here in Europe, I couldn't care less if you shoot animals for pleasure, or feel safe and cool with an uzi in your hand, or that you want to protect your home. Think of something else to feel cool and get a new lock on the door. No more guns.
With the enlargement of the European Union, with countries in former Yugoslavia pouring in, for example, we will probably find more and more guns on our territory as well. And since humanity is not exactly becoming mentally saner, I fear the worst.
I say no more expansion of the EU's open boarder policy, no more sale of guns for non-military and non-police purposes and a thorough investigation on new EU members' hand arm stocks and once we figured out how to prevent a situation like that in Connecticut from ever happening we'll talk again.
What's your stance, fellow Europeans?
PS Americans are more than welcome in this thread, I just want to talk about the European situation here. And you guys do great things, but the fact that some people across the pond even feel that teachers teaching 6-10 year old kids should be armed and that this is the beginning of the solution I find a deeply sickening thought.
