European discussion on fire-arms
While some of my American friends are posting (threadID=958431) funny threads about the shooting in Connecticut I'm simply sad, I'd be happy to get out of this rather gloomy political mindset, but I can't.

Ban school!
Kids are being shot and stabbed in schools left and right. Schools are unsafe and we should ban them! These kids should be hanging out someplace safe like at home near a medicine cabinet or a power saw.

Discuss Banning Banning Discussion Here
And the rise of Authoritarian Rule marches on...as good-intentioned fools discuss with glee how they can surrender their rights to authoritarian rule...which will *never* be satisfied with the control it has.
krellin (80 DX)
17 Dec 12 UTC
You mock the discussion of banning cars...and yet there ARE people in government that dream such dreams.

Whoever thought an extra large coke would be banned...and yet, in New York...it is so.

If you ban the gun, they'll kill be with knives...or poison...or bombs...or with the illegal gun they acquired anyway.

You will *never* prevent mass murder...NEVER...so stop trying to surrender your rights. Stalin and friends are laughing in their graves...

I personally feel that banning cars could make metropolitan life much easier. Imagine if the entire city were connected by fast, coordinated light rail vehicles? No traffic jams, no dangerous intersections, and no ugly parking garages and wasted space.

Can we just ban the forum?
Draugnar (0 DX)
17 Dec 12 UTC
@Rommel - And no suburbanites willing to work in the metro areas. Why should I pay for roads I'm not allowed to drive on? Why should I take a job in a city that won't let me drive to work? And finaslly, how the fuck do you get goods delivered and equipment moved downtown when you can't have a vehicle on the road?

Not very well thought out. Clearly a pedestrian or bicyclist who doesn't see the ramification of their shortsightedness.
Rommeltastic (1111 D(B))
17 Dec 12 UTC
Draug, stop following me thread to thread! I was talking, again, about downtown areas. I'm not talking about your suburbs or anything.

But that also gets me thinking... who's to say that light rail can't have cargo as well?

I have a thing for trains.
krellin (80 DX)
17 Dec 12 UTC
Alll right!!!! YES! Your right, of course, Rommeltastic...and so a few others are inconvenienced and lose their status symbol...their want, not their need...of an automobile!

YES...banning cars is good!

Community kitchens - serving government approved food in government approved quanities would solve a myriad of problems...no deadly knives in homes, lower of the rate of obesity and food ralated illness and disease, random poisoning....all in all, government kitchens solve a lot of deadly sins and crimes.

Side Bonus...Government kitchens means lower housing footprint per household...thus less heating and construction costs...

A TRULY compassionate society would, in truth, turn over *much* of our lives to our government overseers for out own benefit. It is purely logical; the loss of freedom for safety and longevity is a small price to pay, is it not?
Rommeltastic (1111 D(B))

We could also ban jobs, those are unfair to the unemployed.
Draugnar (0 DX)
17 Dec 12 UTC
I know you were talking about downtown. Again, why should I work downtown if I have to pay extra to catch a bus there? Why should I pay for downtown roads that exist if I'm not allowed to drive on them? And how are you going to get office equipment like computers and desks and paper and such into those downtown offices? Eliminating street traffic from downtown will be the deat of downtown. My point still stands because it was my point to begin with. My entire point was downtown/metro areas.
krellin (80 DX)
17 Dec 12 UTC
In our safe government run world, Draug, there will be no bus fair. If you must travel, transportation will be provided for you, so fear not, my friend...

All is well in Utopia...

New York City has cut childhood obesity by 5.5% in the last four years. The rest of the world is rapidly adopting New York's anti-smoking and calorie disclosure laws. Mayor Bloomberg's public health program works.
Draugnar (0 DX)
17 Dec 12 UTC
I'm all for calorie (and other nutritional info) disclosure laws. It would help me if my menu had a rough estimate of how many sugars and carbs were in what I am ordering and also the GI/GL of the menu item in question.

I also like the ban on smoking in restaurants and bars. Although Ohio backed down on theirs which originally included a minimum distance from the entries to the restaurant or bar/ Now you have toi walk by the smokers to get in the places. Stupid shit just made it worse here cause they all congregate outside the front door.

The only smoking ban that doesn't make sense in Ohio's law is the ban on smoking in a tobacco shop. I mean, you go in to buy tobacco. If that is their primary sale, why not let people smoke in there? I could see limiting it to places that advertised themselves as a smoke shop, not a liquor and smokes or some such, but if I go in to Tinder Box, I am planning to buy tobacco. 85% of their products are smoking related. Pipes and cigars and lighters and humidors... It's just fucking stupid.
