Ankara Crescent Gunboat 100% VCs
The AC GB 100% VC SRG was something I ran on vDip a while ago, and it was very well received due to the novelty of the idea. The problem with it being based around novelty is, of course, that the novelty wears off, so since most vDippers have now played it the interest over there has died down. In an attempt to revive my variant (at least for a while), I'm inviting any WebDippers who want to to try it out.

I was surprised to get BEL in 1901 and a little concerned not to draw too much attention. Germany anticipating the English move to SKA seemed to bode well for me though … at least they were not already collaborating. But then they both came at me pretty hard in 1902. Germany’s end-run into PIE was a bit of a bother, but I managed to stay even at 6 through 1903, and when Germany lost a Scandinavian center, it opened the door for me to move on England in 1904.

1905 saw England’s collapse and by 1906 the R/T juggernaut appeared to be forming. I had prematurely attacked MUN, though, resulting in a 3-4 year entanglement with Germany … primarily to Russia’s advantage. Meanwhile, R/T gobbled up Austria and Turkey was well on the way to eliminating Italy and I was still entangled in the north with too many fleets (mine and Russia’s). By 1910 I finally freed up a fleet to send to the Med just as Turkey eliminated Italy. By this time both Russia & I had ‘draw’ up, so I saw Turkey as the one to stop.

I spent 1911 & 1912 in a rear-guard action against Russia, who seemed intent on taking SC’s from me in England in spite of the Turkish threat, but I still managed to get three fleets into the Med. I had decided to cede England to Russia in 1913, but was also worried that Russia might become a solo threat. It would have been interesting to see if I could balance the two threats going forward, but I was relieved when Turkey put up the draw vote and ended it all.

In general, I thought it was a well-played game even for most of those who were eliminated. And since interest in this series waned with some weaker games a little earlier, it was nice to finish with a good one.

Yeah, this was a great game and i'll write down some comments..:
TURKEY!
1901:
Straight off the bat, Austria opened anti Russian, which seemed great for me, as I hoped that would mean more of a chance to fight between I/A, and I could choose my ally of A/R. Not to mention the free second build in Greece! Woo~~
Russia would have to support himself into Rum to get it, so I took advantage of that to get the Black Sea, under the guise of not really doing it too aggressively and leaving my options open. Two builds, and a lepanto coming my way.

1902:
I took a gamble in Aegean/Eastern med, and rationalized it would be worse if I guessed wrong in regards to letting him into the Aegean, so I tried to bounce him there. Of course, he goes to EM, and so begins the annoyance that is Italy, outsmarting me at every turn.
At this point, I also knew I had no chance of expanding into Serbia/Buda/anything north, because Austria would be support holding, so I decided to feint a Russian attack (and if it worked out and I could take Sev without any resistance, all the better). So I convoy into Armenia. I knew I had 0% chance for Sev, and I did have the convoy to worry about, so I decide to bounce Syria, and go for the (most likely) open Serbia, since Austria should trust me at this point.

Got the build off of Austria, built another fleet and no Italy wasn't really a danger to me anymore (still an annoyance though).

1904-1906:
I begin the slow trek of getting my units in position to fight Italy/Austria. Nothing much happens here, but Italy is able to pretty much outguess me at every point. Then Austria helps him out in out-guessing me :(. Pretty frustrating time. I could have made better moves from the beginning, though, and not had this problem at all. Oh well, gunboats are not my strong suit! I didn't want to support Russia into Buda until I could also expand, but ended up doing it as there was no way to move forward without killing Austria.

1907-1909:
I do get Russia's support into Trieste, and finally break Italy's lines (don't know what France was doing down there in the south though). Misordered at some point, which set me back against Italy, who was already turning into a much longer fight than it should have been.

1910:
I realize that after Italy is dead, I cannot fight France. Russia was already at ~13, with a few more easy centers on the way. If I attacked France, Russia could have had the solo without ever have even stabbing me! Russia did everything to make me feel safe, and I thought he was a really great ally, but I wasn't about to let him get the solo, and a 2 way draw just wouldn't happen with how slow I was getting passed Italy. So, I decided that I would speed up the game a little bit, try for the solo, and stabbed Russia.

If it didn't work out, I would just 3 way draw with F/R/T, which was the best deal I could get out of this anyway. So i do my best, and think I could have a chance, but it just doesn't work out. Towards the end we were all online and all readying orders within a few minutes, so that was fun! I think I could have gotten farther, but not 18, so I decided to draw.

Really good game though, would love to play another gunboat with you guys!

Actually, when I supported myself into Buda, I was hoping to /only/ take Buda, and then continue working with Russia against France, but it was hard to telograph that as I needed all my units to be moving. Then, I saw how open Russia left himself, and decided I would give it a shot.

I'll chime in later today or tomorrow when I've got time
First of, I Despise playing as Italy, especially in gunboat games, I've never been good at it and only manage to make it to the end game stages like twice and one of those was due to a cd Austria and an unlucky Turkey... but anyway
1901:
standard Lepanto opening, Austria seems friendly so I will leave them alone and try and kindle friendship. the opening against Russia very bold means that Russia will lose out on the Black sea and maybe Turkey will work against Russia. Strong France is a good sign, no fleet in Marseilles. Clear on the west side lets me focus on Turkey.
1902:
Convoy to Armenia !!! what a genius move from Turkey, managed to guess that he'd cover Armenia instead of E.Med but now Austria has stalled and Turkey covering all bases... don't know what Austria fleet in Adriatic is for, maybe trying to signal alliance with Turkey? Messy Scandinavia and France is set against Germany. Turkey doesn't want to work with stalled Austria and now Germany is coming round the back of Switzerland. England-Germany push against France? Austria is going to be crushed, can't really help him, need Russia to hit Turkey.
1903:
Pivotal year. Turkey build another fleet, Greece need to be reclaimed by Turkey, YES Austria can easily take back Serbia and Russia doesn't trust Turkey because of the army in Armenia. possibly a stroke of luck at last just what I need to get into the game. I decide to try for Aegean sea, in the hopes of taking Greece next year with Austria in Serbia and (fingers crossed) Albania as well. If we can put Turkey on defensive Russia may join the fray in the south... and then of course
Really, Austria is going to try and attack me now? so they start with aggressive moves against Russia, and then they are attacked by Turkey, so they start a fight with all three of the other Eastern powers. Venice is most likely lost so I need to stall for time. oh and looks like we have a Juggernaut coming our way as well with Russia supporting Turkey
1904:
F*** misorder, ment to send Tunis to Albania not Apulia!
retreating into a Ionian like little pussy, Austria sees what's happening way too late even tries to attack me in spring. nothing I can do now, have to hope France and Germany can work together in the north against Russia. Downhill from here.
1905:
Try to fix mis-order and slow Turkey by moving to Albania and amazingly Austria starts to help, we have kept both Turkey and Russia at bay this year but what little hope I had is fading, France is attacking Germany now that England is through and so Russia will only get bigger.
1906:
As if it couldn't get any worse Austria NMRs
but France has progressed well, if I can stop Turkey for long enough there may be a chance. hopefully the fleet France has sent will help rather than hinder
1907:
Austria is dead, I don't know what they were thinking for there last moves also France's fleet is not going to help... Turkey has breached my final lines
1908 & 1909:
I'm still alive? omg lol
1910: decide to stop prolonging the inevitable and so clear the paths for Turkey, as it is I probably could have only saved one center.
gg all, Italy out.

well, 3 way was probebly the result we were destined for and deserving of ... I was Russia, so here it goes:

1901 -- standard vanilla start, I am compelled to bounce Bl Sea and Galicia and am fairly pleased with the Turkish and Aus openings as I am hopeful to ge Rum with a support, and the Sultan did not go to Arm, so maybe he wants a jugger. And those things work out plus I get Sweden, a very nice start ...

Spring 1902 - it gets weird really quickly, some things I just didn't expect, such as the Turkish convoy to Armenia, which immediately has me crapping my pants, not to mention the Kaiser double fleeting against Sweden. I am starting to think it may be a short gunner for me this time

Autumn 1902 -- as predicted, my dreams in Scandinavia are dashed as the British player makes good moves to re-take Norway and Germany seizes Swe from me as predicted. Some luck is moving in though - thanks to Italy the Sultan must defend Syria, and the Turkish Black Sea fleet actually gives me a "love hold", how sweet ... I am fortunate enough to do my disband in Warsaw, which has no contiuguous unit to threaten it. This allows me to keep my Nordic fleet presence

1903 - Turkey is now proving a good friend, which is just what the doctor ordered. I am confused by the German move to Tyr, but at least he is not headed to Warsaw. The British obsession with Swe allows me to take Norway and gain a very helpful build in Warsaw. I am on the rebound and seem to have a good jugger ally and all quiet on the German front, which I like. It is now that I start thinking I may have some chance.

1904--1905 The maneuvering years. Turk leaves the Black Sea and the Bear rejoices!! He is truly my buddy. Britain has to disband Sweden - more rejoicing!! Still no pressure on Warsaw ... I am liking this

1906 Here is where the French problem starts in the northern seas, and I am getting dragged into it. To have any chance to solo I have to come around the top and go against the British Isles, but the blue Frogs are overrunning the place. Later, I make a mistake of fighting France a bit too long, but in the end it is OK and was probably necessary. France even retreats a pesky army into Silesia that I have to waste time dealing with

1907/1908/1909 - great years of cooperation with the Sultan, the pinnacle of our alliance. These are the days!! We are covering the onion domes of the Kremlin in gold from the spoils of war in Vienna and Buda and Germany. My pesky water war with France is actually going OK, I still have 3 fleets in the waters and get Edinburgh. I just need to decide how I am going to play this with Turk so I can try to solo but hopefully not betray him ...

1910- well, my silly worries are pushed aside as the Sultan seizes centers rightfully owned by the Czar!! Oh, I should not have let this happen, I was too trusting. Now I have to refocus against the Turk, but I can't lose my German centers yet am also engaged in the French naval battle. It is now that I know I will not solo

The remainder of the game is the chess match amongst the final three. I was fortunately able to keep strength, and the 3 way draw is what we deserved and got. Fun times!!

bump
