Ankara Crescent Gunboat 100% VCs
The AC GB 100% VC SRG was something I ran on vDip a while ago, and it was very well received due to the novelty of the idea. The problem with it being based around novelty is, of course, that the novelty wears off, so since most vDippers have now played it the interest over there has died down. In an attempt to revive my variant (at least for a while), I'm inviting any WebDippers who want to to try it out.

just thought this was interesting. don't know if there is still interest in political conversations on this forum but I just wondered what others think.

Liberals: "I'm so enlightened and unique, look at my novel contributions to nothing."

I have made the assertion many times: Liberals view themselves as superior to others, intellectually, morally, etc. They have this very nasty tendency to look down upon others..."<X Group> can't possibly make it on their own without us noble people helping them. " or "Oh, I see how that thought is wrong, and I'd never fall for it....but we'd best ban that because those other people are too dumb to see the light..." This is why Liberals look for social excuses for peoples behavior, instead of holding people accountable for their own actions, whether it be positive or negative.

krellin (80 DX)
21 Nov 13 UTC
Nahhhh....I love science. Talking about the "science" of a survey to determine self-views of liberals versus conservatives on *THIS* particular web site...yeah, that's toxic and an utter waste of my time to take seriously. Thus, I will mock and make light...

Are you actually going to pretend that this bit of “science” is in any way important; will in any way change anything; will in any way impact modern politics? Or do you maybe, just maybe, have a shred of common sense and the ability to dismiss this for the pandering bit of science meant to inflame a few people and spark vigorous conversation, to no real end?

Let’s see how gullible you are…
dirge (768 D(B))
21 Nov 13 UTC
1) no one is enflamed but you (as per usual)
2) I am doing you a favor by exemplifying your hypothesis that liberals look down on others for no particular reason, and
3) I agree this kind of thing is only quasi science. But it is what it is. And it isn't nothing. Let's call it descriptive statistics.

y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
21 Nov 13 UTC
I'm actually not. I save that for the few press games I play :). I'm at the point in my life where I'm seriously considering my moral convictions and what I think is right and wrong for individuals and society. Traditionally I've felt that people are stupid and need to be guided on all sorts of levels so that they don't rip themselves and society apart. I've been questioning that belief recently at least for certain instances. The world seems more and more gray as I put more and more effort into analyzing why things are the way they are.

krellin (80 DX)

y2k - Do you think that you are ultimately responsible for your own successes and failures? And yes, I understand, you success involves the education system and roads people built and all that...all of which were also put together by individuals just like yourself doing individual tasks in coordination, "takes a village" yadda yadda yadda.

But within that "village", are you responsible for you?

Alternate question: If someone else, and/or some "group" is responsible for your success and/or failure, do they therefore have a right to *limit* your success (or failure), despite whatever goal you have set for yourself?
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
21 Nov 13 UTC
"Do you think that you are ultimately responsible for your own successes and failures?"

More than others are, of course. But for your alternate question, that's where the serious gray area applies. If someone or a government were more responsible for my spot in life than my own actions were, then that means there is something in play to control the otherwise free will system that is a person and his decisions and the outcome of his life that should be based primarily on those decisions. I'll point to the corporate/financial institutions we have now that have created a system in which the outcomes of decisions of an individual can be dwarfed by the consequences of crazy market swings and things of that sort. Does the government have the right to jump in and alter this system to put people's fates back in their control rather than in control of these institutions? I would argue emphatically yes, they have a duty to do so. But by controlling these institutions, you're limiting the successful individuals who have gamed (legally and not) the system to benefit themselves extremely. So the government is limiting their success in order to give people at the lower end of the spectrum more control over their lives by allowing their decisions to relatively matter more in terms of their outcome in life.

The social status structure and socioeconomic inequality to some degree is necessary to promote incentives to work hard and have YOUR DECISIONS and YOUR HARD WORK pay off for you and make you better off. But when it gets too extreme such that the decisions you make in your life can't possibly outweigh the effects of the decisions made by those with the money and the power, intervention is needed. It's a very fine line.

y2kjbk "You get some people (read: me) to question some of my liberal leanings."

I am hesitant to admit that Master krellin has made some good points once or twice. Sadly, like so many activists (and trolls) of both left or right leaning, his thinking is strictly binary.
krellin (80 DX)
22 Nov 13 UTC
(+1)
Oh please....my thinking is not binary. Your biased interpretation of my points is strictly binary.

Why don't you attempt to have a discussion with me instead of just making that same ridiculous conclusions that you accuse me of making. Pot...kettle...black...

that being said....I try to live a life guided by principles, wherein you have a belief, and you try to apply is *consistently*.

For example: Liberals scream that minorities should have a voice, such as the homosexual community. This is a good thing in a moral society. Liberals, as of today, have attempted to deny the minority party in the Senate a voice on certain matters...and now suddenly oppressing the minority opinion is a good thing.

To my principled stand, this is the vilest form of hypocrisy. You call that "binary thinking". I call it having consistency in my thinking.

Feel free to come up with a discussion point where you think I am "binary" and you are nuanced and wise, and let's talk.

***

As for your prior post abut the government jumping in to correct "crazy market swings"...you have so oversimplified an insanely complex system by trying to condense it to such a simple statement it's laughable.

You know what correct "crazy market swings"? TIME. TIME correct crazy market swings, because the markets are not supposed to be invested in for a day, but instead for long periods of time.

Yes, look at the market on any individual day, hour to hour, minute to minute, and it is "crazy market swings" continuously. Look at the same market over a year...over 2...5...10.,..15 years (as one is supposed to invest) and these swing are damped.

Anyone with *knowledge* of the market understands this fundamental truth.

So instead, you want the natural corrections to be eliminated by....by the Federal Government? The people that can't even figure out how to deliver mail without losing money (by the way, FedEx and UPS figured this out a long time ago). it's the most simple model in the world: Every day, predictably, they deliver X pieces of mail, using Y truck and Z employees. There are no wild swings that are not known ahead of time (holidays)...and yet this government yo put such faith in can't even figure out how to deliver the mail - the easiest most predictable model there is. But you want them to "fix the markets".

Really?
dirge (768 D(B))
22 Nov 13 UTC
Well, krellin, for a start, your social world view is divided strictly between conservative versus liberal. Conservative = correct. Liberal (libtard rather) = wrong. 1 versus 0. Binary.

Just saying.
dirge (768 D(B))
22 Nov 13 UTC
krellin "Why don't you attempt to have a discussion with me"

jesus f christ. Are you serious? Have you tried having a conversation with you? I mean, why don't you go back and read some of your posts.

But, what am doing. I'm just wasting my typing. And that I suppose is the whole point.
krellin (80 DX)
22 Nov 13 UTC
@dirge - in truth, you know very little of my world view. You think you know what I think about the world based upon the purposely outrageous troll posts in WebDip? lol silly boy.

That being said, yes, i occassionally attempt to have serious conversations. And then other outrageous trolls step in...so there is no point.

Are you actually one of those people that think that what goes on around here constitutes any sort of serious conversation?

and here you are...accusing of me behaving in a manner in which YOU YOURSELF ARE NOW BEHAVING...and now you will run away? Please....you make my point for me.

Go away if you are afraid to have a conversation.
krellin (80 DX)
22 Nov 13 UTC
dirge - you are a troll. You spend as much time as I do jumping in to threads to throw your random, vile insults.

So don't you dare, child, pretend that you hold some moral high ground. You are exactly what you claim to despise. The only difference between you and me is that I admit what I do around here, whereas you are blind to what a vile troll you are.
dirge (768 D(B))
22 Nov 13 UTC
"As for your prior post abut the government jumping in to correct crazy market swings...you have so oversimplified an insanely complex system by trying to condense it to such a simple statement it's laughable."

Huh? If that's a reference to me, I'm confused. I'm not particularly strong in the area of economics and I don't recall that I would have started such a thread. My level of knowledge of the area is that completely unregulated market results in wild boom and bust swings as seen from the end of the civil war through the election of FDR. You can make of that what you will.
krellin (80 DX)
22 Nov 13 UTC
No - it was to y2k if you read the thread - he brought up market swings...you know, in that calm, rational discussion he and I were having.

But I see that you are gong to focus on selective boom/bust swings instead of looking at the market as a whole - exactly what I was talking about. Very binary thinking of you, I must say. It's too bad...
dirge (768 D(B))
22 Nov 13 UTC
"So don't you dare, child, pretend that you hold some moral high ground."

My good Sir. I would never deign to take the high ground. I consistently and religiously take the simple easy low ground. I only pointed out, quite accurately, and without judgment (I do not judge you sir), that your arguments and more to the point, your characterizations (and name callings) of your opponents are BLACK AND WHITE. It is the truth whether you deny it or not.

As for me being a troll. Of course I am.
dirge (768 D(B))
22 Nov 13 UTC
. . . and I can only hope to learn from the master
krellin (80 DX)
22 Nov 13 UTC
dirge - so...a topic comes up, and I draw a conclusion on it, so I am some sort of "binary thinker". And what, you don't have an opinion on anything?

what you are saying is utterly ridiculous. There isn't a *single* regular participant in these forums, you included, that doesn't have a black or white opinion on each topic that gets thrown against the wall.

You are ridiculous.

Please enlighten me...on what topic are you so confused, and so UN-opinioinated, that you don't have an opinion?

Follow up question: How old are you?
dirge (768 D(B))
22 Nov 13 UTC
My insults are not vile. They are pointed and occasionally vulgar. But never vile.

Yours are childish.
