PROP 8 OVERTURNED! CAL COURT STRIKES IT DOWN IN 2-1 DECISION!
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/feb/07/prop-8-california-gay-marriage-ban-struck-down?newsfeed=true
A great victory for the movement...one of the most high-profile setbacks and cases of trying to discriminate against the LGBT community via the ballot box, and it's finally been defeated--thoughts? Could the gay marriage become legal nation-wide within, say, 20 years? Longer? Shorter?

A Love of Submission and Slavery--Personality and Party Cults in Religion and Politics
The very term "Islam" itself refers to personal and religious submission...
The First Commandment and The Bible preach submission to God/Jesus...
The USSR, Nazis, DPRK, Cuba, and Iran all have/had personality cults...
ARE Parties and Religions, in the end, doomed to enslavement and submission of this nature?

This post is in reference to game 78514. The game is set to start in about 36 hours. It's a 7-day per turn game, which gives everybody plenty of time to diplome, if that's the kind of thing you like to do...

Bounce question
Quick question for any of you in the know out there.
If you have a string of orders that all bounce eachother and one of the string is supported will it bounce as well?
For example A Ber-Pru, A Kiel-Ber, A Mun-Kiel, A Ruhr sup A Mun-Kiel.
Will all orders bounce if another unit enters Prussia on same move

Proposal: As close to FtF as possible.
Does anyone have any interest in playing a game with some FtF rules? Not a live game, but specifically a game where press is not allowed during retreats or build phases, and those phases are possibly shorter. 48 hour Spring and Autumn, 24 hour retreat/builds? Assuming its kosher as a mod, I would change the game to gunboat and the phase length to mimic FtF. The only thing I would request is no finalising and a starting at a time I know I can be online for each shift.

I wonder...cheating?
In a game (Who me? Stab you!) that has no messages of any kind and two players from the start seem to be working together. The variant is Ancient Med and the countries involved are Egypt and Carthage. They moved only one unit towards each other and then supported each other from then on. Maybe its me but I find that kind of movement very suspicious. What do you think?

Morality surveys some of you geezers might like
http://www.yourmorals.org/
Cool site Thucy. Thanks for the link
In process of taking it. The monetary angle really threw me for the sacredness survey, though. Money honestly does not affect my answers at all, so literally every single one was either "I'd do it for free" or "I'd never do it for any amount of money."

I wasn't too surprised by my results, though. Far and away the highest rating was respect for reciprocity (8.0 out of a possible 9.0). From there I had middling ratings on sanctity, loyalty, and care/harm (4.5, 5.7, 4.5); I tend to attribute the middling rating for sanctity to a difference in what I would consider sacrosanct, not a lack of concern for those things which I hold to be sacrosanct. (Though truthfully, I think that's the case for most any such deviation; rare indeed would be the person who holds things sacrosanct and yet isn't concerned about respecting that sacrosanctness.) Loyalty fits as well, I remember distinctly objecting to some loyalty premises as part of a greater moral concern (that is, if a friend of mine is doing something wrong, I'm not going to overlook it for him being my friend). And then the harm one actually throws me off, I'm not really sure why my rating would have been low because I figured respect for caring for others would be higher.

And then lol fuck the police. I do not have any inherent respect for authority... and it showed. 2.8. lol.
Hmmm, I'm surprised with my results on that quiz. I'm liberal in everything except "Ingroup loyalty" and am between 5.0 and 6.0 on pretty much everything except authority....where I too got a 2.8 haha
Took some more, figured I'd share results as I go.

Disgust survey: Not too surprised with my results. Scored moderately on "core" disgust (2.4 out of 5, within .3 of both compared results). I'm fairly comfortable with the notion that I'm a mortal animal as well, so unsurprisingly I scored somewhat low on "animal reminder" (1.9). And then I scored rather low (1.2) on the contamination one because I tend to think the answer to "dirty" people isn't ostracizing, but giving them the chance to change and inspiring that change (while also respecting the fact that some of the judgments are quite subjective, and that consequently trying to force or compel a change based on such a judgment is questionable).

City quiz: Not really surprised with the results. Culturally I fit in with modern liberals *much* more than modern conservatives, despite politically aligning more with conservatives as a general statement. So it makes sense that I'd favor the liberal and neutral cities (6.0 out of 6, 5.0 out of 6) instead of the conservative one (2.0).

Justice test: Had a lot of "no opinions" in pt. 2 that probably disrupted my numbers. My strong opposition to corporal punishment by the state showed as I polled lower (1.8 out of 8) than either liberals or conservatives on the traditional punishment scale, but I had a more moderate attitude toward the progressive punishment scale (4.0) where apparently both sides liked it much more. Again, probably the no-opinions throwing it off.
I took the "Test Your knowledge" one and I got a dismal 72.2% on it. Depressed me quite a bit, actually. Did perfect on the CTR part of it though
Very interesting. Got a 1.4 on the Disgust score... guess it takes a lot to gross me out. But hey, I've been getting desensitized by Russian youtube videos for years now.
I took the "disgust test" ass well and was a bit surprised to see how conservative I am there. Scored 2.7 on the core, 3.5 on the animal reminder, and a 1.8 on the contamination
*as* well
Ah, crazy. Mine was 1.6 core, 1.2 animal reminder, and 1.0 contamination.
I didn't like the cities test at all. I mean, I knew what they were trying to do while taking it, but none of the factors they were changing influenced me. I just saw the potential for a job in business, good education for my kids (when I have them), and a low level of crime....I mean that's all there is to care about, right? I did take one city down a notch for the gun stores though
Systems and empathy: Yeah, that was predictable. (And of course I'd say that... see the results.) 3.1 out of 4.5, outdoing both polled bodies by about half a point, on systematic organization; 2.5 out of 4.5, lower than both bodies by about the same number, on empathy. I've been trying to work on improving the latter of late, and I have a feeling that consequently I'm less extreme than I would have been, say, a month ago; but I've got a ways to go with empathizing with people, and I know it. Rather proud of my systematic organizational skills though, I have to admit.

Political issues: This should be fun. LOL Palin - got a flat 0.0 (all graphs out of a possible 7) on Palin favorability. That's shocking. I note a pretty strong correlation between my results and those who prioritized the "harm/care" thing back on the first quiz, which further confirms my suspicion that my score on that ranking was off the mark.

Business ethics: I scored much lower on the acceptability scale on everything compared to both sexes. Maybe my moral compass isn't as bad as I thought... or, maybe I'm overly judgmental and stubborn. I could believe either one. I don't think I went higher than 2.0 on a scale up to 5.5 on the acceptability scale on any one category. Had a much lower opinion of others, though (a full point or more higher), but that's probably because I put that I didn't know what others would think for most of them (setting them at a median level while mine was unusually low).

Social desirability: Blah. Scored a 24.2 out of 100, compared to ~40 for all other groups. My gut reaction is that I was more honest with myself than most people evaluated, frankly, but I wouldn't know that and it's not really my place to judge that.
Wow, there's a lot of others. Nah, not posting all these results. Y'all have had enough of my rambling about myself...

Interesting as this all is, publicizing your results like this may influence the answers you choose to make to the questions, skewing the scientific reliability of the study. I'm sure the researchers would rather we all didn't.
Tolstoy: A basically anonymous internet poll has no scientific reliability to begin with.
So I said I wouldn't post too many more results, but god damn. I took the Big Five evaluation for the first time in about 2.5 years, and my emotional stability (neurotic stat) score improved dramatically. This is despite the fact that I've been playing Diplomacy for 2.5 years. ;)

But yeah, my goodness. That's a really good thing.
@thatwasawkward - they ask some demographic information in the beginning, but you're right, there's no way to ensure the validity of the data. But it's so with any poll. They're almost up to statistically significant numbers in many of the polls

Lol in keeping with my carefully crafted reputation here, in the disgust ones I apparently do not give a damn about purity or contamination at all. I got like a 0.6 or someshit.

And on the values one there were some fairly embarrassing but not super surprising results - I have basically no respect for ambition, control, etc.

My apparent fear of death from the disgust at animalness surprised me - I guess intestines are just kind of nasty?

But yeah 87.5 resistance to belief bias what about yall

I've been studying the 7 countries and the centers they control when they arrive at the magic 18 and I've noticed a trend among the nations. Sometimes there are solos that break that trend. If you have soloed a game where your win came with you controlling a cropping of bizarre centers, I'd be interested in seeing them. Post your entries this weekend and on Monday, I'll vote a winner based on how much it deviates from the norm.

So...What Do You All Want To Do Once You're Dead?
A composer, Andre Tchaikowsky, said in his will he wanted to donate his skull to the RSC for performances...and he finally got his wish--David Tennant's "Hamlet" features Tennant using a REAL SKULL for Yorick...Tchaikowsky's! And I read that, I know what *I* want now...donate the rest to science, maybe save the brain if I'm rich enough, but I'd LOVE if my skull was on stage after I died! So--launched into space, scattered ashes in your favorite area...what?
