Yes, vdip is a great site and quite possibly provides the widest array of diplomacy variants available for play on the internet. It's actually quite well known around this community.

Both this website and vdip run the same software, which is also called webdiplomacy and is open-source php project. This website is the official installation run by the creator of the software. vdip is one of the popular alternate installation run by sleepcap (Oli on vdip). He, along with the support of many volunteers, have put in a lot of work in developing the webdip implementations of many variants, in order to provide a great place to experiment with many variants. webdip, however, has a much larger playing community and runs many leagues, tournaments, etc.

I still miss goondip.

yes, this comes up every month, yes it is usually by someone who is new or who does not read the forum, yes there a quite a few of us who are on vdip too, yes it is a "sister site" in a way, yes Oli does a great job ...... and yes the quality of play is better here and we do not have to sift through the many variants that are not hat enjoyable

vdip is a proving grounds, a place to test out and have fun, the play here is a bit more earnest

What was goondip like? I never got to see it before it faded out.

much like Oli, but with people I played with when I started in 2009. Some have left this site and goondip has been gone for a loooonnnngggg time.

goondip was great... though i can't quite recall why, was it email notifications of instant messaging on the chat??

The instant messaging of the in game chat was great. But constantly checking for message updates would be quite a drain on a site as busy as webdip. The other great thing was the widescreen mode where the chat and orders were on the left with the map on the right.
