PROP 8 OVERTURNED! CAL COURT STRIKES IT DOWN IN 2-1 DECISION!
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/feb/07/prop-8-california-gay-marriage-ban-struck-down?newsfeed=true
A great victory for the movement...one of the most high-profile setbacks and cases of trying to discriminate against the LGBT community via the ballot box, and it's finally been defeated--thoughts? Could the gay marriage become legal nation-wide within, say, 20 years? Longer? Shorter?

A Love of Submission and Slavery--Personality and Party Cults in Religion and Politics
The very term "Islam" itself refers to personal and religious submission...
The First Commandment and The Bible preach submission to God/Jesus...
The USSR, Nazis, DPRK, Cuba, and Iran all have/had personality cults...
ARE Parties and Religions, in the end, doomed to enslavement and submission of this nature?

Bounce question
Quick question for any of you in the know out there.
If you have a string of orders that all bounce eachother and one of the string is supported will it bounce as well?
For example A Ber-Pru, A Kiel-Ber, A Mun-Kiel, A Ruhr sup A Mun-Kiel.
Will all orders bounce if another unit enters Prussia on same move

I'm getting this message: Parameter 'fromTerrID' set to invalid value '165'.
In this game: http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=77857

Proposal: As close to FtF as possible.
Does anyone have any interest in playing a game with some FtF rules? Not a live game, but specifically a game where press is not allowed during retreats or build phases, and those phases are possibly shorter. 48 hour Spring and Autumn, 24 hour retreat/builds? Assuming its kosher as a mod, I would change the game to gunboat and the phase length to mimic FtF. The only thing I would request is no finalising and a starting at a time I know I can be online for each shift.

I wonder...cheating?
In a game (Who me? Stab you!) that has no messages of any kind and two players from the start seem to be working together. The variant is Ancient Med and the countries involved are Egypt and Carthage. They moved only one unit towards each other and then supported each other from then on. Maybe its me but I find that kind of movement very suspicious. What do you think?

I've been studying the 7 countries and the centers they control when they arrive at the magic 18 and I've noticed a trend among the nations. Sometimes there are solos that break that trend. If you have soloed a game where your win came with you controlling a cropping of bizarre centers, I'd be interested in seeing them. Post your entries this weekend and on Monday, I'll vote a winner based on how much it deviates from the norm.

Greece is weakest since he lacks a "corner" position, but he has diplomatic advantages in that he can make any player stronger or weaker. Each nation works best with a neighbor and not someone across the board. Do not trust Carthage nor Rome to honor any kind of DMZ in the med. They have to go to Punic sea and Tyrrhenian sea in year 1 to prevent loss of position.
Try to get the other 4 nations warring with each other and then pick sides
As Ancient Med is basically set up as a circle with the med at the middle, each country has only two primary neighbors to worry about. There can be some cutting across, but it rarely happens. Your best bet is to make a faithful neighbor, and focus outwards in the other direction. Just leave two forces back to guard your flank in case they start feeling stabbity.
I disagree. As it said in the varientbank site, get the other two powers opposite to you to ally, and then work with them to crush one neighbor at a time. It works wonderfully well.

So, ex. If you are Rome, get a strong Egypt-Persia alliance going. Carthage and greece will focus east and you can "help" one of them (really just moving your units into a better position to stab) while attacking the other. When one dies, your "helping" units will turn on the other

@GeorgeStephanis: I agree completely. The circle is the key, with all that it implies.

When in doubt, build a fleet

If it helps, here is a mini-EOG from the one Ancient game I have managed to win:

I was Carthage, and swiftly made an alliance with Egypt, giving up Leptis in exchange for a series of bounces and DMZs. This left me with Rome as my only neighbor, and I somehow managed to convince him that the two of us and Egypt could be a "triple" and dominate the board. I started sending fleets toward the center and armies around the perimeter to "support" him.

Meanwhile, _everyone_ attacked Greece. He reached out to me for help, and I agreed to distract Rome when I had the opportunity.

The stab ended up working far better than I expected, and Rome completely collapsed. Greece got minimal gains, however, due to barely holding off Egypt and Persia. I began moving armies around Greece, with Greece thinking I was coming to his aid and the other two thinking I was coming to _their_ aid.

Persia was on the verge of a major breakthrough in Greece, and was getting overconfident. So, I talked him into stabbing Egypt and splitting the world two ways. He bought this, and the furious Egyptians threw everything at him. This gave me the opening I needed, and I stabbed Egypt and Greece more or less simultaneously for the win.

A word of advice for Persian players: if you want to fight Egypt, build fleets! Persia in this game had twice the supply centers that Egypt did when he stabbed him, but was woefully short on fleets and completely stalemated.

@Tasnica, both Ancient Med games I have played (one solo, one could have soloed), I did exceedingly well for the very reasons you described. Make alliances with both neighbors, work with both, then stab one. Rinse and repeat across the board. =)

It works pretty well in Classic, too. ;)

Particularly with countries like Germany and France that have two "traditional" neutral builds in 1901.

Convoy bounce question
Now the wheels are turnin'!
Ok if I am convoying an army and have 1 other fleet supporting the convoying fleet's position, and an opposing player attacks the convoying fleet with 1 unit in support, making it 2 on 2, will the convoyed Army still make it to it's destination?

So...What Do You All Want To Do Once You're Dead?
A composer, Andre Tchaikowsky, said in his will he wanted to donate his skull to the RSC for performances...and he finally got his wish--David Tennant's "Hamlet" features Tennant using a REAL SKULL for Yorick...Tchaikowsky's! And I read that, I know what *I* want now...donate the rest to science, maybe save the brain if I'm rich enough, but I'd LOVE if my skull was on stage after I died! So--launched into space, scattered ashes in your favorite area...what?
