PROP 8 OVERTURNED! CAL COURT STRIKES IT DOWN IN 2-1 DECISION!
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/feb/07/prop-8-california-gay-marriage-ban-struck-down?newsfeed=true
A great victory for the movement...one of the most high-profile setbacks and cases of trying to discriminate against the LGBT community via the ballot box, and it's finally been defeated--thoughts? Could the gay marriage become legal nation-wide within, say, 20 years? Longer? Shorter?

A Love of Submission and Slavery--Personality and Party Cults in Religion and Politics
The very term "Islam" itself refers to personal and religious submission...
The First Commandment and The Bible preach submission to God/Jesus...
The USSR, Nazis, DPRK, Cuba, and Iran all have/had personality cults...
ARE Parties and Religions, in the end, doomed to enslavement and submission of this nature?

Bounce question
Quick question for any of you in the know out there.
If you have a string of orders that all bounce eachother and one of the string is supported will it bounce as well?
For example A Ber-Pru, A Kiel-Ber, A Mun-Kiel, A Ruhr sup A Mun-Kiel.
Will all orders bounce if another unit enters Prussia on same move

Proposal: As close to FtF as possible.
Does anyone have any interest in playing a game with some FtF rules? Not a live game, but specifically a game where press is not allowed during retreats or build phases, and those phases are possibly shorter. 48 hour Spring and Autumn, 24 hour retreat/builds? Assuming its kosher as a mod, I would change the game to gunboat and the phase length to mimic FtF. The only thing I would request is no finalising and a starting at a time I know I can be online for each shift.

I wonder...cheating?
In a game (Who me? Stab you!) that has no messages of any kind and two players from the start seem to be working together. The variant is Ancient Med and the countries involved are Egypt and Carthage. They moved only one unit towards each other and then supported each other from then on. Maybe its me but I find that kind of movement very suspicious. What do you think?

I've been studying the 7 countries and the centers they control when they arrive at the magic 18 and I've noticed a trend among the nations. Sometimes there are solos that break that trend. If you have soloed a game where your win came with you controlling a cropping of bizarre centers, I'd be interested in seeing them. Post your entries this weekend and on Monday, I'll vote a winner based on how much it deviates from the norm.

So...What Do You All Want To Do Once You're Dead?
A composer, Andre Tchaikowsky, said in his will he wanted to donate his skull to the RSC for performances...and he finally got his wish--David Tennant's "Hamlet" features Tennant using a REAL SKULL for Yorick...Tchaikowsky's! And I read that, I know what *I* want now...donate the rest to science, maybe save the brain if I'm rich enough, but I'd LOVE if my skull was on stage after I died! So--launched into space, scattered ashes in your favorite area...what?

Probably buried in a simple casket with a picture of my wife and my parents as well as and a copy of Foundations of Leninism and The Defense Speaks: For History & The Future. Also would like my "I love Socialist Countries" and Kosovo is Serbia pins attached to my coat.

I would like Bella Ciao, Solidarity Forever, & The Internationale sung too, if I might be so demanding.
Organ donor, med school, stem cell that bitch up. Do something useful with this shit.

The body is an empty shell. You may dispose of it as you wish.
Donate my body to somepoor, unfortunate necrophiliac who hasn't been able to get off with a living person. Give someone a little bit of happiness.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
06 Feb 12 UTC
Organ donation for sure, everyone who lives in opt-in areas should get a card.

Beyond that, yeah give me a pine box and a sealed flash drive with some shit I wrote on it. Or something. Just some kind of memento. I guess if I was dying tonight the memento would be some of the love poems I've written.. lol.

Also I am toying with the idea of rejecting a normal funeral - waste of money. Just have a house party and give my body to the state to dispose of for free.

I'm thinking about it. But I do want a grave, you know, cause I'm vain. Perhaps a cheap way can be found.
Putin33 (111 D)
06 Feb 12 UTC
Since I know for a fact that cadavers donated to medical facilities are humiliated and put in costumes and given "names", I don't want any part of that.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
06 Feb 12 UTC
But anyway what is informing my decision there is that any memento I would want to have is not because of any superstition but because of the off-chance people in the future dig at my gravesite - archaeology sort of thing. I would want to leave something humanizing and expressive that I can be proud of, and something that is at least sort of representative of me and my time. My body? Whatever. I would prefer it be turned into productive soil. The money we waste on funerals could do a lot to help people who are not yet dead - and the sentimental value of these funerals is not being ignored - I just think there must be cheaper things than going through these grief-peddling funeral directors.

As I said better to just sort of stake out some grave in the wilderness and throw some sentimental stuff in the ground, or whatever. I think that's illegal though.

In fact didn't we have this discussion before? I think it was TC who berated me for not knowing what the law is regarding body burials. Lol. Jackass. I'm 20. Forgive me for not planning my death to the letter. I'm at least morbid enough and comfortable with mortality enough to think about it unlike a lot of my friends my age.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
06 Feb 12 UTC
But Putin why does it matter what happens to your corpse?

If I was, like, God I guess, I would have a nice little funeral for people that knew me, put some mementoes under a marker, then harvest useful shit from my body and give it to doctors and scientists, then take the rest of my body and throw in a compost heap and grow some yummy veggies out of it. Without the poor farmer knowing he was growing corpse-grapes though, of course.
Putin33 (111 D)
06 Feb 12 UTC
It matters because people outlive yourself, and these people have families. Families should be entitled to the preservation of the memory of their relatives without it being desecrated for corporate medicine. Capitalism & religion have cheapened life enough without participating in its further cheapening.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
06 Feb 12 UTC
But your family wouldn't know about it. They would just know you "donated it to science'"and feel all warm about that. I agree people's feelings matter. But a nice memorial service and even some kind of material memorial to you without your body, wouldn't that be enough, especially if you had assurances that your relatives would not learn the fate of your body?
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
06 Feb 12 UTC
Oh, give me a BREAK...

You're against donating bodies to science--to SCIENCE!--because of capitalism and religion and some misplaced sense of vanity?

If you're dead, who CARES what they do to the corpse...if the family knows it was donated to science, they probably don't care if it's been made fun of or given names, so long as it's used to aid science in the end.

I could care less if they dressed me up in a pink Nazi uniform and drew dicks all over my body when I'm gone...

So long as they use the organs for good research, why does it matter? (I still think it'd be cool to have my skull onstage, but that's a other matter, point is, I think you're REALLY stretching the limits of us taking you even remotely seriously here, Putin.)
Thucydides (864 D(B))

"if the family knows it was donated to science, they probably don't care if it's been made fun of or given names, so long as it's used to aid science in the end."

I am not actually sure if TC or Putin is more partisan.

Putin is certainly more book smart. To an amazing degree actually. Smarter than all of us anyway. And he is less of an ass, meaning he uses less ad hominem (though its definitely well loved by him). But all the same, Putin is literally allergic to straying from his ideological line in the sand.

This is maybe what bothers me so much about him. I wish I could get some of these kinds of statements from him (the following are my own beliefs):

"I support free trade, but I think certain protections are sometimes necessary in the economic development of a country."

"I am a supporter of Barack Obama, but his political opportunism regarding immigration is truly disgusting."

"I am a supporter of space exploration, but pursuing it at the expense of the poor is morally reprehensible."

"I am a supporter of entrepreneurship, but society needs social safety nets to correct for institutional discrimination and pure bad luck. "

"I am not religious, but I acknowledge that religion can be a positive force, and would not shy away from working with a religious organization."

"I lean left, but people on the right often have sensible proposals and keep those on the left honest and reasonable."

"I am a supporter of political integration and worldwide political unity, but the UN can be truly mind-boggling in its ineffectiveness and lack of realism at times."

"I am feminist but I do not feel comfortable with the tendency of certain feminists to attempt to downplay or marginalize men and men's rights."

And so on. Oh well. Maybe for Christmas this year.

Fungal spore death suit ftw!

I believe cremation saves space but tends to release harmful chemicals into the environment, esp if you have mercury fillibgs, or some such. And in general being the top of the food chain we accumulate loads of shite, but there are designs for a fungal spore suit to effectively convert us into bio-mass
Oh yeah, for sure we are. lol Hard to hide age on the 'net tbh

Hahaha I got rid of Facebook, I'm more hipster than thou!

But in all seriousness, if whatever is felt of my body is useful (after the stroke, lung cancer, throat cancer, mouth cancer, etc), then I'm donating it to science.
I'd like to be resurrected by a prophet/evangelist trying to establish some cred with his congregation.
Oh, and preferably before my organs are donated as that could be counter-productive.

I've recently been getting disturbed at the thought of some archeologist digging up my remains in a thousand years. It seems to violating to be judged by some guy long after you're dead and forgotten, especially if they try and do that facial reconstruction stuff on my. I really hate the idea of my image being ogled at by silver-suited museum patrons in the future, especially if the image would end up not really looking anything like me.

I'd like a proper Catholic mass, and then buried in a way that my bones dissolve asap.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

I actually think it would be rather cool to have someone stumble upon me in a thousand years and spend their career making wild speculations about me. I'd find it flattering.
Octavious (2701 D)

There is something attractive about arranging for a hole to be drilled in my skull and some random cheap gemstone or coin placed on my jaw just to confuse whoever digs me up in the future, but the chances are archaeologists of the future will dig through ancient internet files rather than earth to get clues on 21st century life.

I will be content with being buried with the scottie dog from the family Monopoly set, so that every Christmas I will win a little victory.
