i would like to set up a group of experienced players who would be willing to "adopt" a new player and teach them the basics of the game. they would be on the classic map and all players prior to the game starting would agree to cancel/draw the game so that no players gets a win against the new players. to do this i would ask that a mod set up the players in groups of 2 where one player is experienced and the other is a newbie. since there is 7 players in classic that means there would b 3 groups of 2 and a single experienced player who would play the game like they were trying to win and give the new players a real game experience fighting a tough player. they would be full press so the new players could get a feel for how to make allies and such. after about the first 5 or so years i would suggest to be the time for the draw or cancel.
please post here if you are an experienced player willing to teach others or a noob and would like to sign up for the lessons. i would like at least 1 mod to be in each game if possible just to make sure everyone abides by the learning rules and would like the games to be live 5-15minute phases if everyone has time or they can be longer games if people cant do live games. if anybody has suggestions on ways to make this better than please post here to let me know. thanks =)
Interesting approach but we already have the School of War games with five new players, two experienced, and five advisors; one assigned to each new players. The advisors follow the game and advise. The TAs bring their a game knowing they are not just playing against newer players, but the advisors, and then there are a couple of professors who comment after each phase and answer questions asked by the players and others, so the TAs also have to deal with that advice.
post it here? and the new player i was just playing with was dharma's lady friend from facebook, i just played a game with them both and he was trying to exploit her to get the win for himself and ended up drawing the game because i was honest with her. (he is now on my blacklist =p)
Hey maltizok... I'm very interested in learning. Don't be too hard on dharmaton please. He was trying to teach me as well as clobber you! lol :) Thanks for opening this thread. I will be really happy to learn in the setting you propose. Kind regards. :)
I was very hesitant to get you the link, as it was on the freaking front page, and you could have found it yourself with a modicum of effort, AND because you just spammed the forum. But I'm a nice guy.
thanks smileyface and i was responding to messages on other threads because i was unaware i wasnt supposed to spam a message to all threads to get peoples attention which is probably why it wasnt on the front page when i started looking for it
do you think it would be possible to have a coexistence of the school of war thread and this one or should we just direct anyone who sees this to the school of war thread?
Why are they always 5 minute phases, never 10? 10 minutes is so much better, actually gives you time to think, or get up for a bathroom break, if and when necessary. Not to mention, agree to finalise, and it's just as fast as a 5 minute game.
what do you all think of an alliance between italy, france and austria?? austria and italy probably has to face a juggernaut and france has to face germany...
In classic Diplomacy, I am incapable of getting anything going with Russia. England always comes in from the north, Turkey from the south, and Austria and Germany usually aren't too friendly. Any ideas as to how to survive as Russia?
I'm considering joining some games where players have left. That way I might practice moves in cornered situations and also shake up the game a bit, making it more interesting – I think. Is this appreciated by the others players that have been abandoned by someone CDing, or will I get accused of massaging my rating by aiming at a cheap survive?
We are meeting at 10:00 this Sunday at Dice Dojo. That is at 5550 Broadway on the North side of Chicago. A couple of players had to drop out. Anyone interested, please post here.
Looking for a 16 friends to play a world map variant.
Thucy, hellalt, Xapi, fortknox, President Eden, abgemacht, figlesquidge, peterwiggin, djbent, jbalcorn, others who have played me and would like to join in? Small pot, non-anon, WTA?
I think it would be useful to have an additional chat tab where your own country is listed, in which you can talk to yourself. Not only would it introduce a new dimension to the game for schizophrenics, you would also be able to take notes about the game and remind yourself to do things.
