We get a lot of feature requests. If your feature request isn't already on our issue tracker,
then the best place to ask is the forum. This will help us gauge support for your ideas, before we add it to the todo list.
If you are posting a question please check the FAQ before posting.
If your message is long you may need to write a summary message, and add the full message as a reply.
Why are they always 5 minute phases, never 10? 10 minutes is so much better, actually gives you time to think, or get up for a bathroom break, if and when necessary. Not to mention, agree to finalise, and it's just as fast as a 5 minute game.
@aoe3rules The reason why posting in the forum is a no-no is because it would be considered chat. Innon-cht games, it means no-chat period. That's the short answer to your question. Longer answer and history can be found trollingthe forum pages.
Okay then, what about asking for a pause because your cousin had a brain hemmorhage and needs to be taken to the hospital?
(And, just playing devil's advocate here - not that I would do this - how wrong would it be to claim you need a draw when you actually don't? As in, lying about the reason; not that there's any way to tell.)
Most will ignore a pause in a live game. Some don't care why you hit draw. If they want to daw they will if not they won't. Look at our game. Italy and Russia would have loved it if we had drawn.
@ao3rules - Don't ask for draw or pause in the forum on a gunboat, whether you are telling the truth or not, it is chatting and is against the rules. Period. No talking in a gunboat.
Or as WhiteSammy recent remembered from one of our game experiences...
If you ever talk about an ongoing gunboat I'm in, either in PM or in the forums, I will refuse to draw with you, I will refuse to pause if you need that, and I will refuse to cancel.
Talking about ANYTHING in the forums in regards to an ongoing gunboat is quite strictly prohibited.
Smiley, it's completely unaccaptable? I know you shouldn't communicate, but if you have an actual emergency and don't use the pause for diplomacy, what's wrong with it?
I think asking for a pause in the forum is valid and it has happened in lots of non-live high stakes gunboats as well as a few times in the gunboat tournament. However, i think it is a good idea to post before you vote so that anonymity is not compromised.
Draws should be confined to the game button, but asking for a pause in the forum should be fine. Their is clear difference between the two. Draws are are in in-game concern and have strategic and tactical consequences, whereas asking for a pause is not in-game and does not have strategic and tactical consequences (it is cheating to take advantage of pauses, for example refusing to unease unless players vote to draw). I think asking for a pause should be in the same category, in terms of etiquette, as posting a message to the forum saying the game has broken down due to server issues.
Yes, and here's why I would say that. Gunboats that aren't live should be set up as public press, so that you can ask for a pause if you need it. And I was thinking of live gunboats when I said that, because I don't play gunboats that aren't live. So I overreacted a little, because saying OMG, draw this game, is a pet peeve of mine.
what do you all think of an alliance between italy, france and austria?? austria and italy probably has to face a juggernaut and france has to face germany...
In classic Diplomacy, I am incapable of getting anything going with Russia. England always comes in from the north, Turkey from the south, and Austria and Germany usually aren't too friendly. Any ideas as to how to survive as Russia?
I'm considering joining some games where players have left. That way I might practice moves in cornered situations and also shake up the game a bit, making it more interesting – I think. Is this appreciated by the others players that have been abandoned by someone CDing, or will I get accused of massaging my rating by aiming at a cheap survive?
We are meeting at 10:00 this Sunday at Dice Dojo. That is at 5550 Broadway on the North side of Chicago. A couple of players had to drop out. Anyone interested, please post here.
Looking for a 16 friends to play a world map variant.
Thucy, hellalt, Xapi, fortknox, President Eden, abgemacht, figlesquidge, peterwiggin, djbent, jbalcorn, others who have played me and would like to join in? Small pot, non-anon, WTA?
I think it would be useful to have an additional chat tab where your own country is listed, in which you can talk to yourself. Not only would it introduce a new dimension to the game for schizophrenics, you would also be able to take notes about the game and remind yourself to do things.
