Why are they always 5 minute phases, never 10? 10 minutes is so much better, actually gives you time to think, or get up for a bathroom break, if and when necessary. Not to mention, agree to finalise, and it's just as fast as a 5 minute game.
what do you all think of an alliance between italy, france and austria?? austria and italy probably has to face a juggernaut and france has to face germany...
In classic Diplomacy, I am incapable of getting anything going with Russia. England always comes in from the north, Turkey from the south, and Austria and Germany usually aren't too friendly. Any ideas as to how to survive as Russia?
I'm considering joining some games where players have left. That way I might practice moves in cornered situations and also shake up the game a bit, making it more interesting – I think. Is this appreciated by the others players that have been abandoned by someone CDing, or will I get accused of massaging my rating by aiming at a cheap survive?
We are meeting at 10:00 this Sunday at Dice Dojo. That is at 5550 Broadway on the North side of Chicago. A couple of players had to drop out. Anyone interested, please post here.
Looking for a 16 friends to play a world map variant.
Thucy, hellalt, Xapi, fortknox, President Eden, abgemacht, figlesquidge, peterwiggin, djbent, jbalcorn, others who have played me and would like to join in? Small pot, non-anon, WTA?
I think it would be useful to have an additional chat tab where your own country is listed, in which you can talk to yourself. Not only would it introduce a new dimension to the game for schizophrenics, you would also be able to take notes about the game and remind yourself to do things.
You can do this already by modifying the URL when you are looking at the chat tabs. Haven't done it in ages though - can anyone elaborate exactly which part of the get data you need to modify?
Specifically, this idea came up when I was looking at a gunboat game and decided there was something I wanted to say in the post-game statements, but would probably forget otherwise.
I also sometimes forget my planning for future moves and end up thinking "Why the [bleep] did I do that?" Notes to yourself could include the useful "if-Germany-does-this-then-I'll-do-that-but-otherwise-I'll-move-the-army-there" statements and stuff like that.
This idea seemed worth posting since it would probably be very useful relative to the amount of effort required to implement it.
The piece of the URL is this: CountryID=5. I'm not sure which number goes to which country, but if you hit each chat box, you can find which number (1-7) is missing. The missing one is your country and you can talk to yourself to keep notes.
I think that sounds like a great idea. sometimes a list of who your allys and enemys are and some potential attacks are all you need to make a great move.
that ^ was meant for ab talking about Russia being 7... anywho, i feel it would be much more convienent for either there to be a box on the far right (or left) for notes, or instead of excluding your own country in the possible chatboxes to leave them there so you can chat with yourself
How about a button that opens a note-submission box, like next to the button that takes you to the previous order records? It would be pretty simple to add a page that's blank except for the webDip menus and a record of your notes (with timestamps and such, like in chats).
The easiest way to do this would be to add a "notes" tab that opens your own countries chat tab and make it available in all versions of press (public only or gunboat). No new table required as the capability is there, just a tweak to the interface.
I was not being at all serious, and sorry if you know someone who has either.
However, the public's confusion of the two is not entirely unjustified - having schizophrenia puts one at increased risk of DID, and both are treatable by the same class of atypical antypsychotics (perphenazine and risperidone generally improve the symptoms of either).
grep5000, I know what you mean; I was just looking at a page of archived global chat and although I know it's necessary, the "sent from Germany to global" label at the beginning of every line was extremely annoying.
I was just thinking of a bastardized way off the top o' me lil head to implement it with any trouble.
But if I was to do it right, I would also record the phase and time of the notes so the person reviewing it could take notes of their thoughts in diary style so they could later use them for EoGs.
