We're playing our first game, and a player left. Can anything be done to speed up turns since he ain't logging in? When will he dissapear as a player, when all his provinces are conquered at the end of Autumn? How many votes for Draw/Cancel are requiered? Anything else I should know on the situation? Thanks in advance, guys!
The login page on vdiplomacy says to enter your webdeplomacy usrnm and pswd, but then it says my account does not exist. Yet, I see names that I recognize on that forum.
http://vdiplomacy.com/board.php?gameID=5642 Come on and join the chaos variant! Standard map, with 34 players, one per SC! Total randomness! 1-1-2-3-5-8-13!!!
There is a Tournament about to start on vdiplomacy.net called the whittle down tournament which needs players! The basic format is that the tourney starts on the site's largest map and players get eliminated from each round and the survivors pass to smaller and smaller maps. Serious Diplomacy Question- How nice should you be to your allies?
I am a relatively new player to Diplomacy, and often engage in (obviously) diplomacy with other players. However, I seem to find myself being to nice to my supposed allies. When dealing with allies, how nice is too nice? Thanks.
I do the opposite on regular basis. I give up SCs to keep a balanced alliance. This is great if you want a long term alliance.
Try your best to understand what your ally needs and compare it to what you need. A smart player realizes that by helping out a good ally you are helping yourself in the long run, as long as you don't leave your border open, or get into a situation where your ally is going to betray you no matter what.
Giving SC's to an ally are not all that bad. In some cases their units are in better position than yours to defend that SC, or they need the build, or if it's just to prevent friction long term. However, I usually put conditions on them, such as where they should build, etc. That way you know before spring moves whether you have to take it back or not.
Just keep that kind of stuff small and make sure you always have the advantage. By giving them territory, it could be a great setup to an amazing stab
I'm talking in situations where you need to do it (ie. France is stabbing Germany (you) and Austria has a unit in Bohemia. Munich is open and your other units are defending Holland, so you let Austria take munich and essentially become one of your forces) or in cases where there is friction (ie. Giving up Norway in an E/R alliance). It shouldn't happen more than once or twice a game,
You should be a complete ass to your allies. Boss them around and show them who's in charge. Take a few of their SC's if they complain, and don't protect them from the German invasion if they keep complaining. Don't give them any freedom, you need to tell them what orders to put in! And when they try to act "freely," or as an "independent woman," you beat 'em senseless and tell them "GET BACK INTO WESTERN MED, BITCH!"
@ghug, sigh... on topic: well, try to balance your alliance as much as possible: don't engage in one when there's no clear gain for both of you (to you), later on you'll find out how to benefit from other kind of alliances.
I was serious. If you ever are in the position where you have a 6+ SC difference with someone, either they're nearly dead or you're about to solo. Either way, not much use giving them that many centers. If the gap is smaller than that, giving them that many centers is going to make them dominant over you, and that's bad too.
@KA I know you're trolling, but that would be an interesting thing to try at some point. Don't give them options, just command them to do things, and make sure they're never in a position to stab. They'll hate you by the end, but the strategy might actually have some merit.
@ghug: My first game as Turkey played out like that. I had no idea what the hell I was doing and for some reason, Austria let me walk all over him. I ended up being completely eliminated by Russia because all of my units were stationed in Italy and Germany, (This was before I knew that a Russian move to Black Sea almost always constitutes a stab.) and...anyways, I lost.
It was, of course, after this game that I decided to create the "Game for the Honest." In case any of you remember that.
Hey, I'm having trouble getting the last few games together. I apologize to those whose games are being constantly postponed. I need two volunteers minimum to keep the tournament going. It's only 1 or 2 games folks, can anyone step up?
I've been playing here for about 2 years, but started playing at playdiplomacy about a month ago, and I have to say, they have a better interface, and a community who can actually hold an intelligent discussion. See inside for more reasoning. I hope to see some of you better players over there soon!
When you have allies like this in a game, what do you think is better diplomacy? winning the game, or upholding your good word as a player? example is this very game. could have won, wish you could see the chat. excellent diplomacy and communication here. gameID=79078
I'm tired of going through it. I'm tired of people acting like it. I'm tired of people who are full of it. Not that anyone on this site can tell it apart from something comedic.
Since I am now a Masters sub I cannot take my one month planned vacation. Sorry everyone who looked forward to it. But I HAVE decided to limit my trolling comments to one a week or less.
http://video.msnbc.msn.com/martin-bashir/46152472/#46152472 1. I thought you hated all Obama's spending...how much would a MOON COLONY cost? 2. Seriously...seriously, this is what you're resorting to now? 3. I like Star Trek, would love to hsee this happen, someday, but...no, I'm sorry--does ANYONE take this guy seriously? (Or a Moon Colony by 2020, for that matter, assuming the technology did exist, could it be built?)
What does everybody think of Dutch policies? Saw some talk show about it and even though it was in dutch (which I am) I still could understand "Yes minister" better...
Not sure if this goes here, or I'm supposed to email this to the mods, but this game needs to be unpaused: http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=73347
Anyone dare take me up on the challenge? I'm hoping to at least see The Czech, Lando, Eden, jmeyers, Barn3tt, Frank, Troodonte, Babak, Eden, Lando, rdrivera, Dunecat, uclabb, Eden, fulhamish, Troodonte, and Lando.
I think it would be a good idea to allow unrated games. After all, not all Chess games are ELO-rated for example. A simple way to do it would be to make a new variant, say "Classic-unrated". Then, adjust the GR program so that it excludes all games of that variant.
