Newbie looking for my game...
Sorry if this is obvious, but nothing in FAQs helped. I joined a game yesterday, my points went down from 100 to 75 (and still at that level) indicating that I joined.... but nothing shows up under "my games". How do I find the game I joined? Am I missing a step?

ANON Games...Revealing Names...
Would it be considered cheating, meta-gaming, to reveal the identity of someone in a game that is supposed to be Anonymous? It happened *twice* in an "anonymous" game. sigh....

Beatles White Album
Thoroughly enjoying it at this moment...reminiscing about the various states of mind I encountered myself in low those many years ago in college when I discovered this album. That was the time in my life were I enjoyed the vision of purple jellyfish dropping their tendrils out of the sky upon an unsuspecting humanity. Ahhh....good times...

Trivia thread!
An idea inspired by the Who am I? game thread, only much simpler. Answer a trivia question. If you get it right, you get to ask the next one.
Don't cheat by googling answers please. That ruins it.

Argument is War
Left wing statists Lakoff and Johnson made the statement that "Argument is War" in their book Metaphors we live by. They were exactly right and the war has been raging between statists and realists long before the book was published.

After nearly 3.5 years, I finally finished 100 games!
I like how I still have single digit survives, since survives are my least favorite, they mean I gave up a solo while alive. I was kind of hoping for 50 draws and 25 wins, along with the 16 defeats and 9 survives, then D = 2w, w = d + s, D = w + d + s, and d ~= 2s, but suppose I won't complain. ;-)

That's pretty cool. I've been on this site for nearly 3 years myself and only amassed under 40 games. I'll probably have 45 by the time December rolls around.

I enjoyed playing you in the Masters last year and I'm sure we'll play again.

Low blow, ab! Finishing 100 games isn't anything to brag about, it's a milestone to celebrate, which also results in reflection on what happened over those 100 games. I like math and statistics, so it's also interesting to me that percentages for each result directly match the number you have for each result, 9 survives = 9% survives...

Tru Ninja, that was an excellent game! djbent talked me into a Three Fleets opening against you, which didn't get me anywhere, but I suppose it didn't get me killed either, thanks to my great ally BZD...

vordemu, low class, man, please go trolling on someone else's thread.

It actually took almost exactly 3.33 years to finish 100 games, which means I average 30 games a year, 2.5 games a month...

Did you really win your first 8 games? somebody said that...
mscott (384 D(G))
01 Aug 11 UTC
Aeneas17 is pretty close to the best start I've ever seen ... 8 wins out of 12 games. That's pretty ill. I know a lot of players who don't even have 8 wins.
MadMarx (36299 D(G))

I won the first 10 games I joined on this site. At one point, I had finished 7 games, and had won them all without joining any new games, so that was pretty cool to see that 100% win rate. But, I got eliminated very quickly in game 11 that I joined, 1903 I believe, and it finished before I finished game 10, so I didn't win the first 10 games I finished on this site, just the first 10 I joined.

I remember that 11th game like it was yesterday, drawing Austria, and having Russia/Turkey/Italy taking turns lying to me and telling me after my quick death that they triple-teamed me from the start strictly because I had a 100% win rate, it was kind of frustrating... I remember then joining a number of gunboats, and even taking over a few CDs, trying to acquire a few loses (without totally purposely losing) to make my stats a little more conducive to finding allies in future games, which is pretty pathetic on my part...

Too bad they didn't have the anonymous game option at that point.
akilies (861 D)
01 Aug 11 UTC
@jmo without that first loss MM would have retired at 10 wins, that game taught him that in order to be truly god at this game he would have to crush everyone, and so he owed from then on to hound and mercilessly destroy the players who showed him what losing felt like, he will not sleep until he has sealed their fates . . . at least thats how i think of it.

well not really, MM is probably the most respectable player i've had the chance to lose to

Hehe I know what you mean. I just won my only game and made the mistake of talking some trash... they are out to get me now :P
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
01 Aug 11 UTC
But talking some trash is always fun, either you back it up, which is cool, or it blows up in your face, which is cool for everyone else, it's honestly win-win!

One of my first games played, I blackmailed Russia as Germany on the global tab. As I recall, the guy threatened to go global with something, I don't remember what, so I decided to beat him to the punch. It pretty much blew up in my face, in the short term, but I learned from the mistake. Here's that message I sort of regre (but am thankful for the lesson learned)t:

"Open blackmail letter to Russia-

I am attacking War with Sil this season. Use Ukr to bounce me out and use Mos to attack StP if you fear my wrath. If you do this, I will support you back into StP and use Sil to help you advance southward and/or to support you in War if attacked from the south. If you fail to do so, I will crush you. The choice is yours, choose wisely.

Your friend from the west."

I don't consider this a blackmail attempt.
That's how I do diplomacy in all games.
Global chat threatening.
Private chatboxs are a luxury to me.

I've done several global posts in an effort to get people to do what I need. Usually it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Draugnar (0 DX)
01 Aug 11 UTC
Global is great for rallying the troops and demoralizing the leader when you point out how he is going to win. It works best to act all panicky like "OMG! Don't y'all see Russia is about to solo?! We have to stop him NOW!!!!!"
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
02 Aug 11 UTC
Hmmm... Maybe my failed attempt at global tactics in that game early in my career has resulted in me not taking enough advantage of a valuable diplomatic tool... I may have to try to work that into my repertoire...

Yogurtini and BTO Yogurt are two examples of the marketplace responding to idiotic government attempts to legislate a standard of living which only succeeds in diminishing the number of jobs and increasing unemployment.
