In my opinion hanging was too good for them, maybe the electric chair would have been more fitting.

Need A Replacement For France
I'm looking for an active, respected player to partner with the remaining French player in our Dummy trial game (gameID=143236). If you aren't familiar with this game, each country has 2 players that equally share control (press, moves, etc). Let me know if you're interested.

Can we stop with the hate circlejerk threads?
This is as a member of the community not a mod, but there's been two threads today calling out specific members and inviting flaming. It's really old and just degrades the forum discourse. Please stop? Thanks <3

So here's the line? What about the open cry,"how dare you silence the free and open forum".

I agree with you, but .....this is what everyone wishes for.
Requesting that people be respectful, with no associated compulsion for refusal, isn't silencing a free and open forum - it's asking that this community voluntarily cleans up its act. Please?

The world is so full of such wonderful things, why can't we all be a happy as kings?

Arguing on the internet doesn't actually accomplish anything, so the flaming is necessary to give it purpose (comedic value).

I don't really agree Vallk, arguing here over the years has done a lot of good toward developing my philosophical outlook and I know I'm not alone. People are far more malleable than we give them credit for

Whoa, whoa, whoa. I actually did miss Putin. Perhaps I should have labeled it, "Putin appreciation thread." Look, I don't agree much with Putin, and he calls people names like no one else but krellin. But he adds to the forum. And I appreciate that.

"Arguing on the internet doesn't actually accomplish anything"

If argument doesn't work, then why have democracy?

Seems like the most authoritarian people of all are the apoliticals.
Vallk (904 D)
01 Jul 14 UTC
It can certainly mature a person's beliefs, but I've never seen someone actually convince their opponent of anything.

I suppose that's a decent enough purpose, but I still don't think it would be as entertaining if it wasn't so flamey. I certainly wouldn't read it if it was dry political discourse
You mean you've never seen someone admit it! Big difference, egos on the Internet are huge. Ironic how much more prideful people get behind the veil of anonymity....
@Putin I wouldn't describe them as authoritarian. The implications of some statements might be but that's almost certainly unintentional.

@ President Eden:

"threads calling out specific members and inviting flaming"

I agree that such threads are dickish in the extreme and very bad news for the forum. I share your concern.

"asking that this community voluntarily cleans up its act"

You might as well ask the grass on your lawn to voluntarily stop growing. There are too many assholes on the forum who delight in their freedom to hurl toxic shit around.

The forum is never going to clean itself up voluntarily.

Kestas had a wonderful opportunity a few weeks ago, after jmo's outburst at mapleleaf, to take some action and impose some sensible limits. He chose not to. I think that was a mistake.

I am going to email Kestas (yet again) and I urge you to do the same, PE. As you're a mod he might even listen to you.
zultar (4180 DMod(P))

@Jamie,
You might have missed the thread, but Kestas did take some action. He has divided the site's responsibilities into two, one for the forum/mod side and one for the technical/coding side. I am now working directly with Kestas, and I am working on forum moderation, player complaint, and the mods while he spends more time on site maintenance and upgrade.
So, please email me your thoughts and let me know what you think we can do to improve the forum.

Sorry if I missed the thread, but the main thing is I don't see any *evidence* of action. People are still flinging offensive shit at each other. What forum moderation is taking place?

I will email you.

@jamie - please feel free to form your own forum which you cam mould as you like. In the meantime please refrain from trying to censure what I see, I'm a big boy, I can mute threads or just ignore stuff if I choose.

Thx

@ Maniac: I am expressing my opinion on the moderation of the forum. Kestas and the mods have asked members to do this, on a number of occasions. Please feel free to form your own forum where forum members are not entitled to express their opinion on how said forum should be moderated.

Thx.

I have also emailed Zultar. I emailed Kestas before Zultar's post asking me to email him. Zultar is an outstanding member of the community but I'm not sure he has taken over from Kestas as the site owner.

Jamie - you are free to express your opinions here jamie, and I'm free to disagree with you. I merely asked that you refrain from trying to censure the forum, to try and make out that I was in some way trying to stop you expressing an opinion is laughable.

In short my opinion is, say what you like and let others say what they like, providing always that that is within the law.

You seem to want to extend the law and stop people insulting one another. Fine, if that's your opinion, lobby your MP or stand for election yourself, but don't try to impose your sensibilities on the rest of us when you don't have a mandate to speak on our behalf.

Kestas is aware of my opinion that his site is a bastion of free speech and shouldn't be diluted because some people disagree are offended by it.

@ Maniac: "you don't have a mandate to speak on our behalf"

What are you blathering on about?

I am speaking on behalf of myself, no-one else. I have only ever given my opinion. Nowhere in this thread do I claim to be speaking on anyone else's behalf. You are stating your opinion. I am stating mine.

Did anyone miss Putin33?
After a couple of days, and seeing him participate in a few heated arguments, I ask the population of webDip. Did you miss Putin33? I know I did. Whether for laughing at him and his ideology, glad of a champion of your ideology, someone to defend Russia, or someone else to call krellin names, who had SOME reason to be glad he is back?
