Well I for one am glad they're dead.
Peter Allen and Gwynne Owen - hope you don't rest in peace.

In my opinion hanging was too good for them, maybe the electric chair would have been more fitting.

The Quantum Shift

With a snap of my fingers a tiny flame erupted in the air, lighting the mantel of my lantern before I willed the hovering flame out of existence and replaced the glass globe. I popped the seal on a fresh jar of 'shine and raised my drink in a toast to the silent ghosts of my friends around me: my annual celebration to the day the world changed.

Changed? Destroyed, really. "Reformatted" some called it.

I sighed and slammed the empty container to the table. At least the failed experiment hadn't created a black hole to swallow the earth as some predicted, though it had left a radiated hole where France once existed. But to the still-human survivors of the quantum shift in reality, existing in the new reality was perhaps worse than not.

I like it. I would replace "Destroyed" with an intransitive verb so that it could fit in the sentence where "changed" went, but otherwise great.
I like it as well, what happens next?

I'd say therein lies the conflict.

lol I've got a notebook that I'm putting ideas in...honestly, that was just a spur-of-the-moment dump yesterday. I'm actually trying to find a way to put together some ideas that have been floating inside my head for quite some time, so I'm going to try to do this one "properly"...like actually make an outline, do some world-building, etc before I write...but I just needed to get the idea on paper before I lost it, and thought I'd throw it out there. So...patience, padawan.

One idea is that my wife was killed in the chaos and global destruction that followed the reformatting, but because of my true denial of her death and the power of "magic" such faith possesses, she has been left in a state of undeath - and I'm unsure as to whether or not she is even aware of it.

She visits me, not in a haunting way, necessarily, but certainly not in a good way, either. I live in exile, because the type of magic I possess is dangerous - thoughts and belief can manifest themselves in reality -- from a "quantum physics" standpoint, if I observe it in my mind, in the multi-verse where all is possible, I can make it so. (No, that wouldn't be so blatantly put in the story...too heavy, too inaccessible, etc).

MY character has finally decided, though, that he must leave his isolation and travel in search of those that can either help restore her...or release her.

One of the concepts of magic is "diplomacy" related in a way -- strength in numbers. Just as I can manifest magic through "mental observation" of my desires, others can as well. Whole communities have been transformed to reflect the thoughts of them...a liberal arts college becomes what would, for all intents and purposes, be an elven village of artisans and earth magic. A violent neighborhood may likewise be transformed into the lair of violent creatures. And so on...essentially, an attempt to bring classical "fantasy" beings into existence in a future-chaos setting. When there is a combat involving magic, strength in numbers is sometimes enough to counter the magic of others, as long as the collective thoughts believe strongly enough. Therefore, a village, for example, can set sentries to "shadow" the village - so simply believe, collectively, that they can not be found, and thus it can not be, unless perhaps a larger force seeks to find it.

Anyway....those are some of the initial thoughts.

That makes me think of something that I'd toyed with. I like the idea of trolls and Fae in modern settings. A Faerie might be that flighty, but brilliant, college professor that never can seem to get the power-point to work right. A troll might be the gruff mechanic that can absolutely fix anything by listening to it. You've got the two (or more) separate sides of magic that are potent but incompatible.

I'm looking for an active, respected player to partner with the remaining French player in our Dummy trial game (gameID=143236). If you aren't familiar with this game, each country has 2 players that equally share control (press, moves, etc). Let me know if you're interested.

Proportionate response?
Earlier this month, three Israeli teenagers went missing in the occupied West Bank. Israeli authorities allege that Hamas abducted them. Hamas has stated that this is untrue and that they are not responsible.

Thanks for the game, everyone. Not particularly well played by myself; I made at least 2 serious blunders and probably should have been eliminated, but it was still great fun.

Did anyone miss Putin33?
After a couple of days, and seeing him participate in a few heated arguments, I ask the population of webDip. Did you miss Putin33? I know I did. Whether for laughing at him and his ideology, glad of a champion of your ideology, someone to defend Russia, or someone else to call krellin names, who had SOME reason to be glad he is back?
