Question about the mute function--
If I were to mute somebody in the forum, would they also be muted in a game? To be more specific: if I get no press from a country in an anon game, is it possible that the country is being played by a user that I muted in the forums?

Also, would that apply the other way around (as in a player muted in-game is also muted in the forums)?

Is it okay for me to hate VirtualBob?
After we've painstakingly reached a stalemate line against a 17 center France he (Germany) throws the game for no good reason at all.

All he did was misread your intentions. A misread is an understandable mistake.

Are you alright, oscar? It seems like whenever you post you're always angry or upset about something.

Yeah it sure looks like that's what he thought. That's a rather incompetent thought though, wouldn't you say?
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
06 May 14 UTC
Well by his moves, he expected you to support Ukraine into Warsaw. I may have thought something similar, but it's tough to say... in my experience VirtualBob is pretty good, so I think maybe it was just a bad read.

Did you have your draw vote up?
oscarjd74 (100 D)
06 May 14 UTC
Yeah I had my draw vote up. Only France didn't.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))

Well I don't know then. It does seem like a big mess.
oscarjd74 (100 D)

I had put my draw vote up as soon as Russia was eliminated by the way, so it had been up for quite a while. And all this time France was the only one not voting for a draw.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Did you encroach on him? :-)
It's a simple mistaken read. There's no need for the self-righteous indignation.
It looks like Bob was afraid of being cut from the draw. But he shouldn't have as you weren't able to do so,only in case in which Czech would move all his units long away from Sil-Pru-Lvn-Stp line it would be possible to cut Germany and hold the line.
Oscar, shy did you do Gal s Rum-Ukr when Rum-Ukr would have sufficed to get the message across?
VirtualBob (192 D)
06 May 14 UTC
Yes ... the move to RUM was unnecessary and the supported move to UKR was threatening. It certainly COULD have been cooperative (as you now maintain) but it also could have been a thinning of the draw. The boundary with France was safe without those moves ... especially the first one.
SplitDiplomat (101466 D)

@Bob you can't hold War - Mos with three armies,you needed the Italian army in Ukraine excatly,nowhere else.
PSMongoose (2384 D)
06 May 14 UTC
Support-holding Warsaw with Galicia while moving to Ukraine with Rumania might have been more diplomatic, you had enough time... The forceful move-with-support would have been frightening to anyone.
oscarjd74 (100 D)
06 May 14 UTC
@TheMinisterOfWar

The reason I supported myself to Ukr is twofold. First off, Germany had already shown in previous turns that he didn't understand the stalemate. First when he attacked me in Rum and later when he moved Mos-Liv when he should have just stayed in Mos. Secondly, it would allow for Germany to use Ukr to bounce France out of Moscow (which again, he shouldn't have vacated in the first place) and still end up in Sevastopol (where it needed to go for the stalemate).

@Bob
How about the fact that I had been voting for draw for quite some time while France had not? How about the fact that I had not even once in the entire game attacked any of your supply centers while France was sitting in all your home centers and had kicked you out of Scandinavia? Wouldn't you say that, even though you're apparently to dumb to understand stalemates, that should have at least earned me the benefit of the doubt over France?

@SplitDiplomat
Thanks for sharing that rather basic piece of diplomacy knowledge. I had assumed that every half decent player would know that Ukr was necessary but apparently Bob, and I gather from his moronic posts in this thread also President Eden, don't qualify for being even half decent at this game.
oscarjd74 (100 D)
06 May 14 UTC
@Bob
In addition, instead of just assuming that I was trying to cut you out of the draw, you could have just waited and seen whether I would indeed try to take War before throwing the game. If I had taken War you could have still thrown the game in the next year by supporting France into Moscow. So, even if I were trying to cut you out, which I obviously wasn't, you still jumped the gun unnecessarily.

So, any which way you look at it, you still lost us the game for no good reason.
"Germany had already shown in previous turns that he didn't understand the stalemate."

Even more reason not to force Ukr but to do Gal S War, Rum-Ukr, since you apparently knew he wouldnt understand your move. There was still time. Even more so, there may even have been time to thin the draw, so I can certainly see where VB is coming from.

I think there are very few players among us who have not thrown a game occasionally to make a point to our fellow players, this seems to be one of those occasions.

"@SplitDiplomat

What are you trying to prove? I understand the necessity of your move and I gave you the correct, charitable explanation for Bob's mistaken decision. Your attitude is mystifying.
oscarjd74 (100 D)
06 May 14 UTC
@TheMinisterOfWar

I can see how at first glance it would seem that there was more time, although one more season at most, and had Bob not moved Mos-Liv there would have been.

As it turned out though he did move Mos-Liv and WE WOULD HAVE LOST THE GAME FOR SURE if I had not dislodged Ukr exactly when I did. The German army in Ukr would then have been needed in the next season to support Liv back to Mos or otherwise France could have eventually destroyed the German army in Liv. Therefore I wouldn't have been able to move to Ukr later as it would have cut the support. And also Germany wouldn't have been able to move to Sev (which he had to to set up the stalemate) as Ukr can't move and support at the same time.

So I dislodged it, again, because Bob had already shown that he didn't understand the stalemate, and I was afraid he would do something stupid, which as it turned out he did indeed.

Note also that after I had moved to Rumania, which Bob apparently found so confusing, I then continued to support Germany in Galicia. Instead Germany used Galicia to attack Rumania. This is how we lost Galicia and had I been a bit less fortunate in the guessing games could have already lost us the game at that point. This just to add some further context as to why Bob had every reason to trust me even despite his lack of tactical skills.

I agree. VirtualBob just comes across as a poor tactician. The one person you refer to is PE though, right?

@Partysane

"Teaching with that show of incompetence?"

Please elaborate as to what exactly I did in that game that you would consider incompetent. Because if you don't your comments just read as petty pleasure at my losing the game over someone else's mistake after you failed so hard at eliminating me.

There are a few things in life worth getting upset over, like having someone steal your stuff.

I can't think of a game worth getting that upset over. Don't let other people's behaviour control your moods. If someone misread your moves, then learn to communicate better. If you can't stand playing with people not of your calibre, think of it as a teaching experience to bring other people up to your level so you can enjoy the game more. There are ways to enjoy the game even it it's not going the way you wanted.

And learn to listen instead of barfing over everyone just because you're upset. :)
VirtualBob (192 D)
06 May 14 UTC
(+3)
So ... I guess my charitable view of all this is that it was a "learning experience". I have some serious weaknesses in my game when it comes to seeing 3-5 moves ahead. I have also been screwed over more times than I can count by someone who wanted a few extra SC's at the end of a game. Your moves were not what I expected (and I am not arguing here that they were not correct) so I went a bit paranoid. At the end of the day, though, starting a hate thread does not appear to be a response that matches the error.
oscarjd74 (100 D)
06 May 14 UTC
I really don't get what delusional moral high ground you people think you live on telling me what I can get upset about and what not. Don't tell me what mood I should be in. I'll decide that for myself thank you very much.

Also, I wouldn't be playing dip if I didn't enjoy it. Duh! And I'm actually far less upset than some of you fairies seem to think so mute me or get over it.
oscarjd74 (100 D)

oscarjd74 (100 D)

@VB

In the spirit of that learning experience... please read up on stalemates. They are an essential part of the end game, especially in stop the solo scenarios. Even outside of the end game knowing them well will hugely improve your game though. That being said, the way you managed to survive in this game after losing your home centers was excellent. You just missed that finishing touch to actually collect on your good play up until the end. I'm pretty sure that with better knowledge of stalemates you would have been able to read my moves correctly.
kasimax (243 D)
