Weirdo Message displayed in "Game Time 6"
Recent log-on reveals the orders page as "loading order... " for all of my pieces. Last time I was on I saved my moves but did not hit the ready button. I do NOT want to go a turn with no registered moves. Anybody have suggestions?

Irena Sendler
Can someone please tell me why Irena Sendler hasn't been renominated for the Nobel Peace Prize posthumously?

This is part of a project for college but part of a bigger social issue as well.

Question about the mute function--
If I were to mute somebody in the forum, would they also be muted in a game? To be more specific: if I get no press from a country in an anon game, is it possible that the country is being played by a user that I muted in the forums?

Also, would that apply the other way around (as in a player muted in-game is also muted in the forums)?

Rules question
I really should have played long enough at this point to know the answer, but:

Can a fleet sitting in a coastal centre convoy a unit? E.g. could you convoy from Portugal to Marseilles via Spain?

Rules Question
Can a fleet in GoB support a fleet into St P (nc)?
I know it could support an Army there, and I know a fleet in MAO could support a move to either coast of Spain (as specifically mentioned in the rules) but I thought that was because MAO could legally move to either coast.

WTA draws
Whenever a WTA game draws, it never says the number of points each player received- just the amount they bet in red, suggesting that all players lost their bet. So, for anyone to get any points in a WTA game does there have to be a solo?

I'm genuinely a bit surprised
I knew Putin had balls, but he has huge ones to try and hide this and then do the same thing six days from now.

webDip survey
I think it would be interesting to conduct a survey on webDip users- the average age, where people live, how long people have been members- just to get a "scientific" sense of the average webDip member. Anyone else think this would be a cool thing to try out?

A quick rules question
I think I know but... Player 1 has, say Holland, Ruhr, Munich. Player 2 has Belgium and burgundy. If holland supports Ruhr to Belgium, Munich to burgundy, while both Belgium and burgundy hit Ruhr, what result?
Ogion (3882 D)
05 May 14 UTC
The issue is that Ruhr succeeds in taking Belgium, but does Belgium succeed in standing Burgundy out of the now vacant Ruhr? Or is the stronger move prevent the move from succeeding and burgundy ends in Ruhr, Munich in burgundy and Belgium retreats (to Picardy I suppose)?
yassem (2533 D)
05 May 14 UTC
Hmm, that is a good question. I'm guessing that is a bounce, but as my experience here shows in a couple of minutes somebody will tell you what page of the rulebook this is described on, so I'm gonna let them handle that : D
ruhr takes belgium, burgundy and belgium bounce, but belgium then has to retreat/disband. munich bounces too.
ckroberts (3548 D)
05 May 14 UTC
Except in complicated situations involving convoys, a dislodged unit still carries out its orders. Belgium to Ruhr will bounce Burgundy, even if Belgium is dislodged.
Ogion (3882 D)
05 May 14 UTC
That was my sense as well.
tobi1 (95 D)

No, Burgundy will take Ruhr and Munich will move into Burgundy, as a "dislodged unit (Belgium) has no effect on the attackers area (Ruhr)". There is no Bounce in Ruhr.

Oh yeah, that makes sense, I mean, hell, that is obvious. If the dislodged unit still affected the destination area you could for example bounce the incoming units. Sure thing, no bounce in Ruhr
my bad!
yassem (2533 D)
05 May 14 UTC
But of course, it's only in the case of head to head battle. If the attack were coming from any other direction than Ruhr the order would go through and you would have bounce in Ruhr
Ogion (3882 D)

nice catch, Tobi!
ckroberts (3548 D)
05 May 14 UTC
Ah, I see. According to jDip, if I am entering the moves correctly, Burgundy moves to Ruhr, so tobi is correct. Oddly enough, jDip still lists Belgium as bouncing with Burgundy in Ruhr, but Burgundy successfully moves to Ruhr. The relevant moves:

Germany: A hol Supports A ruh -> bel
Germany: A mun -> bur
Germany: A ruh -> bel

France: A bel -> ruh
Bounced with bur (1 against 1).
Dislodged from ruh (2 against 1).
France: A bur -> ruh

Wow, it's incredible how many people responded incorrectly to a simple adjudication question, before tobi finally pointed out (6 replies in) the elementary rule that comes into play in this situation.

Ogion, it's perfectly fine that you asked the question. No shame in admitting that you don't know something and seeking out the answer.

I'm just disappointed with the incorrect responders acting like they know something when they are dead wrong about a very basic rule.

I still think most of us would make the right decision in a real game, it's just thinking about it without seeing the problem, at least in my case, makes it much more to relate it to experiences. I don't know how about the rest of you guys, but I for one thing learned everything I know about diplomacy just by playing here. I have never seen any board version, nor have I ever read the instructions : D
Ogion (3882 D)

Thanks. I actually looked through the rulebook first, but on my phone so I missed Diagram 13 and explanation.
ckroberts (3548 D)
05 May 14 UTC
This is good because I learned something. I have always been told a dislodged unit could not affect a unit attacking/supporting an attack on it. But the language in the actual rulebook is not about units. I guess this is one disadvantage of only learning to play online and thus never actually using a rulebook.
