Can someone please tell me why Irena Sendler hasn't been renominated for the Nobel Peace Prize posthumously?

So my mother called me, saying the dog went into a rabbit hole an hour ago and still wasn't out. I ran to the place, about 2 kilometres away. Once there, I my mother pointed me to the whole and I took a look. I saw nothing. I asked wether she was sure, and she said yes, the last time she saw him was when he disappeared 30 minutes ago. I asked her to drive home and bring me a flashlight. She left. Then I tied my fleece vest or however it's called in English around my head to cover my mouth and nose and basically just went into the hole. When my feet were still out of the hole but the rest was in, I did feel something that almost had to be my dog given the circumstances, and it was. After some more trouble I found the collar and used the leash. Then I started to crawl out again and when I was out I pulled the leash and with quite some trouble my dog came out in the end, completely red from the sand instead of black and white, and judging by his red eyes he got sand in his eyes too, but he was out, and happy.

Just wanted to share that. It's been quite a busy holiday with things like this, while I really planned to not do much because I was so tired...

And tomorrow school starts again, with a lot of work since, as they say, we've had enough rest in the holiday...

Ugh! Well, at least I have enough stories to tell about my holiday this time around.

Now I just need to figure out what to say when someone inevitably asks: 'How was your holiday?', and I have no time to tell the story...

05 May 14 UTC
Fair point abgemacht, but I never saw the end of it... Presumably there was more but it got too small for the dog.

Yeah it's a big dog (a 'normal' sized dog, not huge, but it definitely can't be mistaken for a small dog) taos, that's the problem. A small dog probably wouldn't get stuck, since, you know, it's made for rabbits...

It was impossible to see anything, but my guess is that he got stuck trying to turn around or something like that.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
05 May 14 UTC
Note that it wasn't a straight line, for whatever reason the rabbits decided corners are good... Maybe to trap dogs...

I also suppose I can't confirm it's a rabbit hole, but it's the obvious option in that forest.

Lets assume for a moment this is true...

Why is no one calling him an idiot? The man is quite clearly a complete dingbat. Lets not make the mistake of confusing stupidity that gets lucky with something worth congratulating.

The man could just have easily crawled blindly through a hole and grabbed hold of a badger's gentleman sausage. This would admittedly led to a more entertaining story, but an altogether more painful one.
Draugnar (0 DX)

I was thinking the same thing. If the hole was that big, it probably was a badger hole, not a rabbit hole.

My dog is a hunting dog, what he usually does when he sees a rabbit hole is dig in it to make a bigger hole he can fit in. Since it had been an hour since I was there, there's a decent chance that happened. If not, it was abandoned by some other animal. I knew my dog was in it, and I did hear his tag and such, and my dog is the kind of dog that would either have made a lot of noise or ran away really fast (or make even more noise if that's impossible) if he saw/felt another animal. Hell, he made a noise when I found him.

I should note that, while I've seen rabbits make big openings before, this was quite unique because the opening was surrounded and slightly covered by tree roots, and the hole was sort of inbetween two of those roots. This sort of defined the shape, explaining the corner I noticed as well.

I suppose it might not have been a rabbit hole, but I knew the first furry thing I'd come across would be my dog, right...

Lets list a few of the errors made in this...

1. Running straight there without taking any equipment that might be useful. Perhaps understandable in the circumstances. A failure to think that happens to many of us in pressure situations.

2. You're on site, you can see the situation, and you're poorly equipped. The only advantage you have is that there are two of you. A good option is for one of you to go off and get some equipment or help. A more risky option is for the more able of you to make a rescue attempt whilst the other looks on to provide back-up in case something goes wrong.

An unbelievably stupid option is to send your back-up away and make a poorly equipped dive into the hole with sod all chance of help for some time if you get into trouble.

That is one of the poorest calls I've ever seen. It's for people like you that "may contain nuts" warnings are put on packets of nuts.
oscarjd74 (100 D)

Wait. What? There are nuts in nuts? Fuck, I'm allergic man. Thanks for the warning.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
06 May 14 UTC
Well Octavious, that's a fair assessment, but in my defence, my mother is the kind of person that causes you to say: "With friends like these, who needs enemies?", at least in this type of situation. I genuinely considered it safer to start while she was away.

Also, what was not apparent in the story is that I was 'just' planning to do a 'recon'. When I felt my dog I obviously decided to get the leash on and get out, and then I didn't need my mother to pull him out.

And I was being careful. Really, the way I did it, there wasn't anything I could think of that could go wrong.

You're right about the first thing, but I thought he was just stuck in the opening, not hidden in a dark hole, so other than the leash my mother already had, I really couldn't think of anything important to take with me.

@ steephie

As you get older you'll be amazed by the things that can and do go wrong :p. Still, as a veteran of many a situation with my own mother that goes along the lines of me saying "when I say push I want you to push, ok? If I don't say anything, do nothing" followed within a minute by "stop pushing! Stop pushing! What the hell are you pushing for?!? Aghhhhh!!!", you have my every sympathy.

Question about the mute function--
If I were to mute somebody in the forum, would they also be muted in a game? To be more specific: if I get no press from a country in an anon game, is it possible that the country is being played by a user that I muted in the forums?

Also, would that apply the other way around (as in a player muted in-game is also muted in the forums)?

Can a fleet in GoB support a fleet into St P (nc)?
I know it could support an Army there, and I know a fleet in MAO could support a move to either coast of Spain (as specifically mentioned in the rules) but I thought that was because MAO could legally move to either coast.
