Also, coordination and communication via reading moves is what makes for the best gunboaters. They may not be communicating at all, just better at reading the moves and interpreting what comes next.

Me too. I never play a game without cheating. What's the point, afterall? Ooh big deal; another survive or defeat while playing legitimately ... Fuck that! I get my defeats the old fashioned way, by cheating for them!

@Hannibal01: Yes, a small number of people do cheat (they usually get caught), and exchanging messages outside the game in a Gunboat is cheating, as is using the voting buttons (Pause, etc.) as pre-arranged signals.

Well, I was being sarcastic, sure. But I don't think its anymore assholey than coming out and saying that everyone here is cheating just because he's getting beat in a GB game.

Course I guess you didn't really say I was being more of an asshole than the op, so I can live with it.

First off, I know everyone doesn't cheat. Second off, I don't give a rats @$$ if I lose a well played game. What it comes down to is that I don't like investing alot of time in a gunboat game when it becomes obvious others are collaborating. Personally, I really find it difficult to understand why folks feel compelled to collaborate in a gunboat game. Whatever.

You are allowed to work together as long as you don't message. That's the way to win actually. Imply alliances by helping someone else, those kinds of things.

Collaboration (without press) is the only way to win a gunboat game.

I just read minds. Port 42 is open on everyone's brain.

The best gunboaters had port 42 surgically removed because of that.

SplitDiplomat was lucky enough to be born without port 42.

I've seen 4 multi bans in my last 2 games. Too much cheating. If someone has two accounts in a single game do both get banned or only one? What's to stop the cheater from rejoining with another account?

The mods have generally said first time offenders get a second chance, but they have tools that track various aspects to determine if someone is returning and it's more than just IP address. Repeat offenders don't get a thrid chance as I understand it.

But the best solution is to setup passworded games and not play live. There is very little cheating in non-live games (not to say none exists, but it is a much lesser occurence) and you get to know you ropponents in passworded games such that you can be confident you are playing 6 other people, not 4 or 5.

actually I've only seen cheating in non live games. never had a problem with it until I stopped playing live. maybe they just never had the time to get caught?
