i liked the outlaw josey wales. i like clint eastwood western's, but all the macho bravado can be a bit much. i haven't seen any of his more recent (director) stuff.
The problem with having such refined tastes is that there is so little you can truly enjoy. I'll stick to my unrefined tastes and enjoyment of Clint Eastwood's works. I'm okay with that.
Sergio Leone, who worked extensively with Eastwood, said the guy only had two expressions - with or without hat. Maybe that's an improvement over Keanu - since that guy only has one expression - "whoa".
Peter Sellers, Orson Welles, Richard Burton, Laurence Olivier, Henry Fonda, Ingrid Bergman, Alec Guinness, Ben Kingsley, Daniel Day Lewis, Gary Oldman. Anthony Hopkins, Cate Blanchett, Kathy Bates, William Macy, Bette Davis.
@Putin - You are an idiot. Eastwood never won an academy award for acting, you putz. He won them for *directing*. Get your head our of your ass and get informed. Fuck, dude. You are so smart in global affairs but a fucking moron in the arts.
@Putin - "But I like how this academy award winning actor gets all of these excuses for his lack of versatility and lack of ability to act or produce art."
Again I say get your facts straight. *You* said he was "an academy award winning actor." He is no such thing. He is an Academy Award winning *director*.
I only see two Best Actor awards: one from LAFCA for Unforgiven and one from NBR for Gran Torino. Care to point out any other actual acting awards he has won? There are 4 to 5 times as many nominees as winners of awards. Nominations don't mean shit other than you campaigned well. Wins are what counts.
Oh, and People's Choice is a popularity contest, so it doesn't count. Hell Keanu has one of those for Speed, IIRC.
"Putin, are you going to tell me that Gran Torino and Million Dollar Baby were not good movies?"
Only saw Gran Torino, and yes. Cliched, full of amateur actors, and a ridiculous ending. If you want to an angry old man shout racial slurs for no particular reason, it's 'great'. For everyone else, it's painful.
They hand them out to directors too. And it is about the person's entire body of work and what they have contributed to the inductry, not about a particular skill set. Epic fail. Game over. Sorry you ran out of quarters.
LJ: I didn't say that I didn't like Gran Torino. I definitely enjoyed it. But from a critical film-making standpoint I think Million Dollar Baby was much better made. I'm sure you would also love to hear that I think Fight Club is a very overrated movie...
I can't compete with supergenius Draugnar. The problem is, uh, what director has received the award? I can't find any.
2010 - Ernest Borgnine, actor 2009 - Betty White, actor 2008 - James Earl Jones, actor 2007 - Charles Durning, actor 2006 - Julie Andrews, actor 2005 - Shirley Temple, actor 2004 - James Garner, actor 2003 - Mladen Sekulovich, actor 2002 - Clint Eastwood 2001 - Ed Asner, actor
So where are the directors again? I can't find a single person on this list who was exclusively a director. It's all actors.
I'm sure you'll have some witty, high IQ comeback about quarters or something.
I don't even know what award you're talking about, but looking at the list of people who have won it, it kind of backs up the argument that Clint Eastwood hasn't received awards he doesn't deserve. That list looks like "cool old people who never won an Oscar" to me. You've got a black guy, a Serbian guy, and a bunch of people who aren't really top-flight.
Why are they always 5 minute phases, never 10? 10 minutes is so much better, actually gives you time to think, or get up for a bathroom break, if and when necessary. Not to mention, agree to finalise, and it's just as fast as a 5 minute game.
what do you all think of an alliance between italy, france and austria?? austria and italy probably has to face a juggernaut and france has to face germany...
In classic Diplomacy, I am incapable of getting anything going with Russia. England always comes in from the north, Turkey from the south, and Austria and Germany usually aren't too friendly. Any ideas as to how to survive as Russia?
I'm considering joining some games where players have left. That way I might practice moves in cornered situations and also shake up the game a bit, making it more interesting – I think. Is this appreciated by the others players that have been abandoned by someone CDing, or will I get accused of massaging my rating by aiming at a cheap survive?
We are meeting at 10:00 this Sunday at Dice Dojo. That is at 5550 Broadway on the North side of Chicago. A couple of players had to drop out. Anyone interested, please post here.

I think it would be useful to have an additional chat tab where your own country is listed, in which you can talk to yourself. Not only would it introduce a new dimension to the game for schizophrenics, you would also be able to take notes about the game and remind yourself to do things.
