I'll buy you a drink if I know who you are (from here, that is - obviously if I knew you IRL I'd just call you ) and want to meet up somewhere close to where I'm staying.

I'm a lot of fun to meet up with when I'm on vacation. Nigee can confirm.

NFL Pick 'em: Week 8--the Niners in London Town, Romo/Stafford, and the Pack Back on SNF
So I missed posting for Thursday Night Football...but if everyone didn't already have the PANTHERS over the Bucs anyway...get out. Elsewhere, the Niners look to crush, erm, stomp, erm, play the Jaguars in a highly competitive game in Wembley Stadium (who do we always give London the bad games?) Romo's Cowboys and Stafford's Lions both have something to prove, the Vikings have to find a QB, all this and more, so, Week 8--PICK 'EM!

Jamie -- You are in the UK, and I think Phil is outside the US as well....so maybe you too are uninformed. The reason the voter ID laws are protested by Democrats is that they are claimed to be ****racist***. I'm not sure what the hell is so dificult for you to understand about that.

By claiming they are racist, the issue is NOT "POOR people have a difficult time getting to the DMV"....the issue, IF it is a racist issue is "BLACK people have a difficult time getting to the DMV".

You idiots can attempt to insult me all you want, but *I* am trying to discuss the *actual issue* that the Democrats use to protest voter ID laws.

If you don't like me discussing race in the context of the voter ID laws....then you probably have an issue with the Democrat party, and you probably agree with me.

"The Democrat argument against voter ID is not my argument."

Who gives a fuck what you opinion of the voter ID law....outside the US. lol Idiotic.

If you want to discuss the voter ID law in the US, you should probably discuss the actuall issue related to the voter ID law in the US. Pretending that some other issues that ONLY exist in your mind are important is about as idiotic as the things you claim I do.

The whole voter ID thing is something the right (or is that reich) wing in this country are pushing. The stated reason is to fight voter fraud. However time and again when asked to point to any sort of organized voter fraud (i.e...people voting when claiming to be someone they are not) no one can show any evidence aside from maybe a spouse filling in their late other half's mail in ballot. So...since you on the right keep screaming that this is the problem (and ID's are the fix)...prove that your claims are anything more than just trying to suppress votes???

Now...if you want to talk election fraud (ie...people manipulating the actual vote totals to favor their candidate)...let's talk turkey because that happens on both sides...
krellin (80 DX)
25 Oct 13 UTC
And sorry, my research from thebrennancenter.org says ID laws do NOT reduce turnout. They happen to also believe the laws are discriminatory...even while concluding that they do not reduce turnout.

So there...I have stats, too.

And when I *do* look at your blog post, all I see is proof that voter ID laws reduce the rate of Democrat voter fraud. It's tough to vote twice, or vote on behalf of dead people, when you have to show ID. That is one very reasonable explanation of what is going on with voter ID laws....they are STOPPING FRAUD.

krellin (80 DX)
25 Oct 13 UTC
@Bengagurl.....ohhhhh....you didn't look at Phillies little blog post, did you? Because it clearly demonstrates that Voter ID laws have reduced teh amount of Democrat fraud in voting!

Krellin's version of voter fraud...anyone who votes for a Democratic candidate...
krellin (80 DX)
25 Oct 13 UTC
Bengagrrrll....denying reality since 1993. No, Bengagrrl, unlike Democrats, I actually enjoy living in a country with two parties duking it out. I like *open* debate and compromise out of my government. I also like when voters are allowed to only vote once.

You moronic Democrats who like to live in a fantasy world in which their is no such thing as voter fraud just show yourself to be either delusion, uninformed/stupid, or liars. You are not stupid/uninformed - you speak to well to suggest you are brain-deficient. That leaves delusional or a liar.

Chances are, you think voter fraud exists, but you are gong to be stupid enough to say voter fraud only exists on the Republican side...which mean a strong chance you are delusional if you make that claim.

But the best chance if you are just a fucking liar...you know voter fraud exists, you know sometimes people vote twice, or vote on behalf of dead people, etc....but it benefits you (you think), and therefore you turn a blind eye to it and deny it, which makes you a fucking liar.

That's why I have no respect for people like you. Delusional I can handle...that a mental state you can't control.

Liar is a choice of immorality. You swim in immorality.
BengalGrrl (146 D)
25 Oct 13 UTC
First...I am delusional...when it comes to sports...I actually think that Cincinnati has a professional football team when we really just have a junior league one.

I did not say voter fraud does not happen...but it is so miniscule. In the 2004 gubernatorial race in WA state we had the dead voting here...and a few people who voted at the polls and mail in voting. The total was something like 100 people or .0001% of the vote. But the funny part was while the GOP was screaming about that the magority...some 60% of those votes were cast for the GOP candidate Dino Rossi. The GOP shut up on that topic after that came out.

Voter fraud happens and it is caught most of the time. And it is in most cases like I mentioned earlier...spouses voting one last time for their late hubby/wife. And it happens on both sides.

Now...let's talk about election fraud...which actually does have an impact on elections, shall we?

Honestly I think it's going to shoot republicans in the foot. You want to make sure people vote? Try to take the ability away from them. People are going to be heading door to door with maps of nearest dmvs and polling stations with a number to call for someone to drive you there,
If I lived in a state where it mattered what I voted (never have yet) I'd be sure to volunteer.
krellin (80 DX)
25 Oct 13 UTC
@Santa - Isn't that I what I suggested above? That if people can turn out busses to drive people to the polls, then political parties can help people get an ID. Gee...what a concept....helping people...

I guess I'm a bad American, because I think having the mot people possible voting legally is a good thing.
SantaClausowitz (360 D)

And ill add one last thing,

It's a sick country where a very few actual cases of voter fraud are deemed more dangerous than calculated measures to keep thousand from the polls. It's disgusting.

Krellin,

It will happen, but I can't wait to see republican pundits start bitching about political machinism when people are taxid to DMVs
krellin (80 DX)
25 Oct 13 UTC
Bengalgrrrl - you can not say "It is caught most of the time" because if it isn't caught, you don't know about it. You have made an illogical statement. (Can't prove a negative). We can estimate voter fraud, though, and identify it in situations where, for example, therer are more voters than people (http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/09/05/this-county-had-124-more-registered-voters-than-eligible-voters-counting-dead-people-and-felons/)
So you put laws in place to minimize the occurence of voter fraud...how is that a bad thing.

You people that act like having a personal ID is some massive accomplishment astound me. Making an issue of requiring an ID - given the number of activities in every day life that require an ID - like renting an apartment! - demonstrates that you are not concerned about legal voting. And if you really think there are a great number of people without ID's, then DO something about it, because these people need help!

Thucy -- Ummm....excuse me, rights can not be taken away - they are inherent to teh man.

Voting "rights" can be taken away. Did you even read what I said, Thucy. Good lord. CONVICTED FELONSA often can not vote....i.e. it is a PRIVELEDGE that can be removed, dumbass.

It is disturbing the degree to which the American political right is willing not only to prevent the extension of full rights to every member of our population, but also to roll back existing rights once taken for granted only a generation ago, such as the right to vote.

And yet they say they are patriots. Whose patriots? These are the people that wave Confederate flags and call themselves true Americans.

These are the people that slavishly worship an ancient Constitution and react to any attempt to update or amend it sensibly with vitriol, despite the fact that this very constitution was written to be changed, and that their Great Patriot Thomas Jefferson said:

"I am certainly not an advocate for frequent and untried changes in laws and constitutions. I think moderate imperfections had better be borne with; because, when once known, we accommodate ourselves to them, and find practical means of correcting their ill effects. But I know also, that laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths disclosed, and manners and opinions change with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also, and keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy, as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors."

Yes. "New truths disclosed."

Such as...

Germ theory.
Electricity.
Telecommunications.
International governance.
Psychology.
Submachine guns.

You know. Trifles.
krellin (80 DX)

Just because you retards buy in to fell good rhetoric doesn't mean the feelings are true.

You don't grasp the difference between a "right" and a "privileged". that's half the problem with this country - stupid people like you wandering through life with defective understanding of the world you live in.

THUCY -- ANSWER THE QUESTION: CAN "RIGHTS" BE REMOVED FROM A MAN?
Thucydides (864 D(B))
25 Oct 13 UTC
(+2)
Felons should be able to vote, point blank. It's a pointless and petty recrimination that only helps contribute to their alienation from society and recidivism. It's not as though their is a district of felons threatening to vote in felon representatives. We already have felon representatives.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
25 Oct 13 UTC
In practice rights can be removed in the sense that the right is denied. Their right is violated. But their moral claim to the right is unaltered.
BengalGrrl (146 D)
25 Oct 13 UTC
Krellin...nowhere am I saying that ID's are a bad thing. I am arguing the rationale...and also am saying we should be addressing election fraud.

BTW...registered voters is a matter of the county updating it's roles to make sure that they have the right counts. That is a governmental thing not an individual issue. You love to rant about government ineptitudes...why not here?

And I am concerned about legal voting...in that I want to know that the actual, final vote count is legit. That is all voters voting once and the results actually matching the tally of voters for the right candidate...not voting then having the results skewed to one candidate or the other...party be damned. You are too concerned with a problem that has such a miniscule effect on elections while ignoring a bigger picture. Typical GOP thing to get people looking one way while they mess with a bigger issue.

krellin (80 DX)
25 Oct 13 UTC
Thucy, your feeling are IRRELEVANT. Felons CAN NOT vote often times. THEREFORE the "right" of voting is removaable...it is not a right, it is a priveledge.

Period, end of discussion.

Sorry to burst you (often) ill-informed bubble of existence.
