Definitely anon, open to any low-buying, somewhere in the 5-50 range. I'd like the players to be primarily top gunboaters, but the game is open to anyone who wants to try it out. I'll work with the mods about changing the type of the game from press to gunboat in 1902. I'm hoping and assuming that's not something difficult to do, but I could be sorely mistaken.

I'll play but we have to wait for me to be defeated somewhere soon so I get some points refilled. :-)

Another interesting variant on press for another time would be one where the mods randomly pick press for the year. Everyone scrambles to get their press in for the next several years on the years that happen to be full press because they don't know *when* the full press will be back, if ever.

That definitely sounds interesting. This format I'm proposing is meant to encourage the game to be mainly gunboat play, but there are two main effective differences that I feel are positive:

1. You get a small sense in the beginning of the sentiments and resolve of the different nations controlling the other countries. So you have a bit more guided information in determining who to ally with, and are less likely to start working with someone for tactical reasons and he ends up being incompetent and screwing up your gunboat mojo.

2. Coordinated openings. The worst part about gunboat is the monotonous nature of the first year and how the moves are largely set in stone in terms of what the right play is, with a bit of variation. This blows that out of the water while keeping the crux of the game still as gunboat.

Draug's idea sounds really interesting. I'd be glad to throw chat into chaos every few turns.
