And Putin, College Admissions Tests do not represent the population as a whole and are heritage centric. Lose the admissions tests and go on grades alone and then give the class AA a leg up. Your numbers are 6 years old and don't reflect the entire populace, so your argument is flawed.

What on earth are you talking about? SAT scores reflect the relevant population, which is the population wanting to attend college, which itself is the principle means of social mobility and the principle area of 'controversy' regarding AA policies. The claim is that replacing race-based AA with "class" based AA will work better as means of leveling the playing field. No it will not, as is clear by the data. 2005 is not that old for data like this. But look up the numbers for 2010 if you can find them. I doubt they will be much different.

Because there aren't poor people in rural areas, right? Or there are a hell of a lot of other factors at work which white people feeling entitled to admissions and jobs don't want to consider when it comes to education. As usual conservatives think simple solutions and simple slogans are sufficient answers to complex problems.

It only reflects those who have applied to college in the study you quote. It doesn't represent the entire populace which includes people who don't plan to go to college.

Regarding your rural area strawman. Rural poor don't tend to tale SATs because they don't intend to try for college. Many are homeschooled or unschooled altogether. So they won't be included in your stats.

Purely class based AA wouldn't work as well because it wouldn't address the systemic oppression faced by some minority groups in the US. The system of access to good education, public services, etc. is rigged and probably not just towards the wealthy.

Also, why do these threads always get reduced to arguing about test scores? Universities have a right to want a diverse student body. If UT feel that the quality of learning is improved on their campus by admitting a diverse group of students, then they should be allowed to take race into consideration as part of the admissions process. I think that it probably benefits all students and faculty to not be in classrooms with only people of their own race or backgrounds

Not if they receive tax dollars. As a state university they receive both state and federal money and are obligated to abide by racial discrimination laws which also protect the true minority world wide, the white male.
