1901-
I wanted to work with Germany against England, because England needs to be dead if I want to solo, and I know he's thinking the same of me, so I wanted to be the one to initiate combat.
I supported myself into Burgundy, hoping Germany wouldnt take it the wrong way. He opened to the Baltic, Kiel, and Ruhr which was a great sign for me. England opened north, and so did Russia. This was all great news, as England how had to support his convoy over. I ended up taking my naturals and Belgium.
1902-
I waived one build for two reasons: 1) I didn't want there to be a huge target on my back, and more specifically, I wanted to show Germany I wasn't coming for him, but 2) more importantly, I wanted to save the build for another fleet in Brest in 1902.
I ended the year in Irish and MAO, armies in Bel, Bur, and Gas. I let England take the channel (briefly), at the expense of vacating Brest for the fleet build.
1903-
There were no units in or next to Liverpool, so I walked in with the convoy. I also retook the channel because England moved to wales. Italy, after not being able to get past the ionian in his lepanto attempt, turned to me. However, Austria turned to him at the same time, so I thought Italy would back off (and he did).
I moved Lvp-Edi and Irish-Lvp, and they both worked. England was down to only London, and I had 8 centers and was a bit worried about how fast I was growing. I didn't want them to band together to stop me so quickly.
1904-
I was a bit worried Germany would turn on me (because of thinking I was going to move on him), seeing the position I was in. To try and deter him, I build fleet Mar in 1903., and proceeded to move south. I added Tunis this year.
1905-
I built another fleet in Mars in 1904, but Germany built army Berlin. He was making good progress on Russia and his units were all out of position. I knew this was my time to strike. I ended up taking Holland and Munich.
In the south, I added Rome to my list of centers, but didn't take Rome because Italy and Austria were still fighting, which I loved to see.
1906-
I was pretty sure I had the solo in the bag at this point. Germany took back Munich, but I retreated into Berlin, and added Denmark (convoyed from my army which was still in Edi), and Kiel.
1907-
In the Spring, I finally walked into Rome, and in the fall I took Venice and Norway for my 16-18th centers.
All in all, I think I played pretty well. My solo was also aided by the fact that the east didn't band together to stop me. I was able to take all of Italy, which means I didn't have to push as far through Germany.
I do still think I could have soloed if they banded together earlier, but I would have had to fight for it. I ended up soloing pretty easily. I don't solo much, so if I am able to not only do it, but do it easily, then you know my opponents must have made some big mistakes.
Moreover, Germany left himself out of position and underdefended when a possible stab was incoming. I ended up just catching him at the perfect time. His units were all east, but he was just on the brink of taking Russian centers, but had yet to do so. He only had units in Munich and Holland (and Denmark/Norway). He also messed up in 1905 when I moved on him. I think it was obvious I was going to take Holland with Ruhr because of the possibility of Munich cutting support from Ruhr had I tried that. He did try it though, and walked out of Munich to Ruhr as I waked in from Burgundy.
England was in a tough place, and he was going to die anyway, but he ended up doing it very quick which put me in that position where I was able to dominate the board. e could have moved his EDI fleet to Clyde to put a unit on Liverpool so I couldn't walk in instead of to the North Sea where it wouldn't help him against my attack. Then after I convoyed in, he could have moved that North Sea fleet back to Edi to make sure I only got one build. He did neither of these, which let me take two off him in 1903 to put me at 8 already.
