Here's a new idea to restrict live gunboat games from chronic CDers.

My idea is to make the games password protected.

I've set up a facebook page under the name "civil disorder (not)" (http://www.facebook.com/NoCDs), and on this page I will post the current password of our NoCDs group.

If you are a friend of the NoCDs page then you will be able to see the password. If not, you won't. It will be easy to become a friend the first time as long as you don't already have a bad rep. But with this method, someone who starts CDing without a good reason can be defriended and will no longer have access to the current password.

We can work out the workings of the group. These are ideas of how it might work. I would anticipate that I can give admin rights to people I know are solid, through extensive past experience, which will distribute the burden/responsibility of being the gatekeeper.

I know it could get a ugly with people getting petty about stuff other than CDing, but we can see how it goes.

How it will work now is you send me a PM on this website telling me that are making a friend request (that way I'll know the facebook ID and the Webdip ID are linked), and then make the friend request. I'll friend you unless I already think you are a CD risk.

The one drawback is that you'll need a facebook account.

So, what do you guys think?

It seemed a good utility for the purpose.

If one of you webgurus out there can make a page that we can give and take away permissions to view quite easily, then we could avoid facebook.

I am not very facile with Facebook myself, so if someone could try viewing that page and tell me
1) can you view the page? (I hope anybody can)
2) can you view the comment that has the current password (I hope you can't until I friend you)

If I could do it, every CDer could do it... (ehm, I'm no CDer!)

Why do you need a Facebook page when you can start a thread here? "I'm starting a passworded game, who wants to join?" Duh.

The password will be where everyone (in the group) can view it. So:

1. You don't have to PM everybody a password every game
2. The games will be anonymous because you still won't know who exactly is in, only that the people are restricted to the group.

Hopefully the group will get big enough to support a bunch of games.

In terms of getting into the group I am figuring one will be innocent until proven guilty. Thus, I, or other admins when they exist, won't need to know your history. The only way to be excluded is if you already have a bad history, like, for example, benguy.

I see... What if, for example, poisoned mouse creates a Facebook profile called "Zmaj" and joins your group?

So can anyone see the password yet?

Erm, cspieker, don't mind me.... Some bad comprehension of the language. Anyway, if you manage to organize it, I'll create a dummy FB account just for it, it's nothing impossible. I find strange, having a forum, to organize it on FB...

Hmmm well I think this is not going to work. I can't figure out how to restrict information only to friends. I thought it was easy to do. But apparently not. If anybody who knows their way around Facebook can help me with this, that what be cool.

If this forum had the ability to write mass private messages, then the game creators could easily spam an entire group of approved users, but currently I don't think(?) that possible

I know my way around Facebook... But, most CD'ers don't check the forum, so just post the pw here and change it every time you feel like it.

Happy to program a specialized web page for this just articulate the specs the best you can right now.
