Why is everyone jumping down MM's throat? He didn't lose the game, France did. What MM did should have been enough to let France set up his half of the stalemate line and France fucked it up. Besides, I would think that when an 8 SC nation CD's in the mid-late game, that would be enough pretense for a courtesy draw, or are my expectations of players too high on this site, and I should go over to Vdip?

A lot of quality players have chimed in voicing otherwise, so I don't think you have ground to say that that's the expected result. I expect all of my opponents to take advantage of any means at their disposal to win - damn sure I'm going to.

Most of us aren't criticizing mm's play, we're criticizing the fact that he expects a well developed game to be drawn because some fuckup fucked up. If one player is a fuckup, that's gonna throw the game to somebody else sometimes. The more players that are fuckups, the more likely that person is to be me.

PE, uclabb, and bas simply said that G and F could have stopped the solo, and were criticizing their play. Maniac said that he would have drawn if he was in SD's place, but understood why he would go for the solo.

I expect the game to be played fairly. If someone NMR's for a turn or two I won't be howling for a draw, but to outright CD like that tosses the board and I would think its a fair expectation for that game to be drawn. Its just my opinion that the right thing to do in this situation would be to draw and you shouldn't resent me for it. If a game is thrown to me by a CD, I'll draw.

Favio and jmo I would be inclined to say would agree with my opinion too, based off of their comments.

Yeah I'm not claiming there is an overwhelming consensus here, I'm just saying that there are obviously people who feel both ways about it, and it seems that your side of the issue is trying to call our side to account as if drawing was the only decent thing to do.

I disagree, and would say instead that any win within the confines of the rules is legitimate - and we all know damn well that the spirit of diplomacy agrees with that (if you haven't, read a bit on some of the nasty tricks people have played in PBM).

Decent and within the spirit of diplomacy aren't the same thing YJ :) I'm just saying it would have been the decent thing to do.

While I may not expect decency it doesn't mean I don't appreciate it and encourage it. Just because you won't be penalized, and may even get rewarded for doing something indecent doesn't mean you should. I'm assuming it's the same for quite a few other high ranked players who will draw or cancel when a game is marred by CD's including MadMarx, Jacob, Babak, and Cachimbo just to name a few.
