Austria's Poor Performance
I'll admit, I'm pretty new to playing Diplomacy online. I never thought of Austria as a poor draw, but it seems to get eliminated first in almost every game I've seen on this site, crushed between its three neighbors. I always thought Italy and Austria were a sure thing as allies, but Italy almost always seems to turn on Austria in 1901 here. Anybody got an good theories?

U.S. Election Game
This is not Diplomacy, but for those looking to expand their campaign talents to the electoral arena should check this out.
http://www.your-election-game.com
It is a game I created about four years ago partly inspired by webDiplomacy.

The pot wasn't that small, but I felt I was playing with total noobs. France didn't know how to set up a stalemate line and Russia tried to take my SCs before realizing he's dead without me. Just when I decided that Russia was safe and that I could convoy an army to help France, Russia goes CD. I was one turn late bringing that army to Burgundy. One turn! And France could still have saved the day if he had moved Gascony to Burgundy instead of the useless North Africa. Damn!

Austria noticed the confusion and waited for his moment. It was an ugly thing to do - we had the stalemate line before Russia CDed - but it was within the rules. I won't tell him he played a good game, though, because he didn't.
I was screwing up the stalemate line for a while, yes, but in the end I did finally have it... Austria's win was mostly attributable to Russia's missed phase. You could have held Prussia for an additional turn. The move to North Africa was thought necessary in order to keep Austria from moving a fleet into North Africa and a fleet into Tunis, a move against which I was only going to be able to defend against when he did not have a fleet in Tunis.
my bad sorry guys.

@zmaj, I knew what I was doing that whole time. I went after your SC because you weren't going to go to STP and finish the line.....
Ah, wait... you couldn't hold Prussia for an additional turn. I should've moved to Burgundy, yeah. Apologies.
Zmaj (215 D(B))

I could have held fucking Prussia, but what if he took Livonia then? How could I know Russia was coming back? God damn it. And you should have understood that an army would be missing to support hold Munich. If he moved fleets into North Africa and Tunis, you could have defended with your fleets and mine. Shit... so much time wasted.

the last hour or so was a waste of time. austria is a bitch not to draw the game. good job by england to set the stalemate

But to be fair, SplitDiplomat is the bad guy. He could have ended it before the CD, but he waited for someone to leave. How fucking low is that? I remember him complaining about me dragging out games, but I was a noob then. He should have known better. No passwords for that man.
Split playing through CD's is a bit of a recurring theme...
Zmaj (215 D(B))
17 Sep 12 UTC
Yes, but this time he actually waited for the CD to happen.
I don't think Split was necessarily waiting out a CD. He may very well have been waiting to see if I screwed up the setting up of the stalemate line, which I came close to doing. That being said, I do think it was a bit low not to draw after seeing that his win was entirely thanks to a missed phase.

Well, never mind, it can't be undone. And you were the first to notice that a solo was looming, Your Humble Narrator, way back in 1906. Kudos for that.

I think its hilarious that the only one who keeps not drawing in these situations is SplitDiplomat. He seems to be the only one who takes advantage of CDs.
It wasn't a CD, it was an NMR I made......
Favio (385 D)
17 Sep 12 UTC
Its still funny, bc his only argument was that NMR's and CDs are apart of the game....which they aren't....

No way, SplitDiplomat wouldn't vote to end a game in which there was a game-changing CD! Pretty lame dude, pretty lame. But, it should be expected from Split. I knew it was him.
