Obama Orders More Deaths
It sounds outrageous at first glance, but my President, Barack Obama, just sentenced Americans to die needlessly today by signing higher CAFE standards so US cars will get more gallons per mile.
Study after study shows that CAFE standards killed between 40,000 and 125,000 Americans and crippled 350,000-625,000.

A "Super-Short" Story
I once submitted the following super-short story. It was word-count limited, and so the idea is that every word and thought must count. The idea is to give a quick scene that evokes and image, and allows the reader to create a whole back-story on their own...And now:

Question about retreats
Hey I was under the impression that if army 1 bounced with army 2 in territory A, but Army 1 was forced out of territory B by an Army 3, that army 1 could retreat to territory A. Yet, in a game situation this doesn't happen? Can someone explain this to me?

To All Those Who Favor Decentralization of the Economy
Look at the Articles of Confederation. Look at modern-day Spain. Both had/have decentralized economic systems, and weak central governments.

They economies were/are terrible. I heard on NPR that some say the unemployment rate in Spain is 20-25%. Spain has very strong provincial governments, and the national government can't control the different regions of the country as well as it would like.

Please, far rightists, tell us how decentralization* of the economy is supposed to help.

*decentralization != lower taxes. Under a decentralized government, states could increase taxes within their borders while national tax rates decrease.
I think the failure in your logic is decentralized government = decentralized economy. What the heck *is* a decentralized economy?
And Spain has never really been an economic powerhouse lol

1. I don't really think "decentralized economic system" as a term makes much sense. Really, the only centralized economic systems refer to either socialist or communist economies.

2. If you mean political decentralization, then I think it would be nice to point out that switzerland and even germany have decentralized political structures, and their. economies are doing pretty good. And the economic crisis currently affecting spain is largely a result of the 2008 financial crisis, which affects most of the world currently, and especially a result of the european soverign debt crisis brought upon by, you guessed it, overborrowing and an accumulation of debt by the spanish government.

3. To sum up, really I don't see how spain is supposed to be a bad example for political decntralization.

I think, like everything, it's about finding a happy medium. Nobody does (or should anyway) favor 0% or 100% taxes. Nobody does (or should anyway) favor completely centralized or completely local government -- nor even government as decentralized as the Articles, as you point out. The disagreements come about where said medium is, of course. But I don't think you should interpret the various parties as being absolute in their desires, by and large. Decentralization fans just think that the status quo is too centralized.

Ray, you chose your words poorly.
You are confusing decentralization of the government with decentralization of the economy.
Please learn basic concepts.

Tett....I doubt you have ever been bold and brave enough to take LSD. And if you had, you are so narrow-minded that your head probably would have exploded and you would be institutionalized today. You are the know-it-all uptight asshole type that sat around drinking tea while you mocked those around you that took their free college time to explore alternatives, so self-confident that you knew all about all.

If denis is an LSD addict, I'd take his word over yours any day, as long as he provided supporting documentation....something you don't provide on any sort of regular basis.

That being said, I think denis constructs an argument about as well as my cat, who happens to have a brain tumor....so this is not so much in support of denis as it is just pointing out what an ass you are.

"What the heck *is* a decentralized economy?"
I would assume a centralised economy is one where the government controls the majority of business, or the commanding heights of the economy. Were as a decentralised economy would be one were the majority of businesses are controlled by individuals, or the commanding heights were placed in the hands on capitalists.

Although I would say that definition is all too government centric, a better definition would be a decentralised economy is one were no individual or government has control over a majority or the commanding heights of the economy.

As compared to the concept of centralised versus decentralised government. Where centralised would be all the power resides at the upper levels of national government, and decentralised would be all the power resting with the local governments.

Which means that yes the OP has his definitions muddled.

Convoy Errors
I'm currently playing a game - http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=64585 and I can't put orders in to convoy a unit. I could do it last turn, but when the UI changed, this problem started. I'll put in "convoy" an army to "_____" from "_____" and as soon as I put in the last setting, it resets everything and says "orders not completed" when I try and ready. Help?
