The best books of all time
I've been working on a list of the supposed "best books of all time" to act as a sort of reading list for myself. I finished it tonight and I figured I'd post it here to see what people think.

Sorry if this is the wrong place.
Game Id # 4098. Looking for an unpause hopefully. One of our players has been AWOL for 13 days and we would like to just have the game unpaused and let him slide into civil disorder so we can finish.

Hi all I was wondering if you had any clip art of this nature. No nudity. To be used in a game I'm developing for a 6th grade class. Pleas post a link if you have any.

With wikileaks apparently on the verge of another major release of classified information, it felt about time the webDip community discussed the issue:
Should wikileaks publish sensitive information they are given, and should it be censored?

Happy Holidays! (And WHat I DON'T Like To See...)
Happy Channukah! (a day late...) ;) And Christmas to come...but controversy--DOES Santa Claus really exist? Oh, and then there's the matter of idiots who, instead of having a good, civil conversation (like we often have here) just decide to do the real-world equivalent of shout and troll... http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thelookout/20101202/ts_yblog_thelookout/atheists-slick-ad-campaigns-sometimes-meet-with-resistance So let's talk here...what do you think?

Beats me, thats just what I heard they were going to do.

I'm not a soccer fiend, as you all know, but the World Cup this year was my first watching of it, and I have to say, I LOVED watching the national teams play, and watching that Donovan goal (and having my Middle Eastern-American bilogy professor give us extra credit for the US win!)

And that just makes no sense to me...

United States, a country that's supposed to be warming up to soccer after that positive outing this year, and a big media nation...

Or Qatar--with all this issues, media and political THAT entails?

Hurumph!

I'm assuming that everyone talking about how the US World Cup will grow the game are under 24. Because if you were older, you would remember that people said all the same stuff about the 1994 World Cup.

As an Englishman, clearly I wish we'd won the bid, but lets be honest that was never going to happen.
Technically, we had the best bid, but there were several clear reasons why it was never coming here.
First, if only to get it out the way, Blatter hates the English. Apparently, given there was a chance we'd take it, he gave a speech to the voters just before the poll, where he effectively told them the British media would make their lives hell and not to vote for us in support of their fallen colleagues.
Secondly, spreading the game. Come on, taking the WC to England wouldn't spread the game at all would it. On this grounds, and since they will have the infrastructure etc in place I don't mind loosing to Russia. It makes sense for a number of reasons, and as I will freely admit our bid was not head and shoulders above theirs.
Thirdly, money. As noted above I'd already accepted we wouldn't take this, and that whilst it would go to Russia for the wrong reasons, they arguably deserved it for the right ones anyway! However, Qatar? Their national teams footballing status is more laughable than that of South Africa, and the locals are unlikely to be that interested in football either. However, when you can fill FIFAs bank accounts without even noticing it, you're going to turn their heads.

So, Russia 2018? Shame but fair enough
Qatar 2022? Come on, what a joke.

Right, so much that MLS is now the 11th most popular league in the US. (I'm guessing, but I think it's a safe guess).

no, so much that people will actually talk about soccer from time to time. i can remember as a kid people ridiculed it. people still do, but a lot dont. a lot.
I have to agree with Thucy. More people are starting to watch soccer here in the US than before. I went to a summer program at a SUNY school two years ago and crowded in a room with 25 other guys to watch US play Brazil in the Confederations Cup. The latest World Cup was huge an actually had the interest of a good proportion of my school. However, nobody really watches MLS. A friend of mine watches the Bundesliga a lot, and the Premier League and La Liga are paid attention to as well, but nobody cares about MLS (among my friends)
Thucydides (864 D(B))

yeah nobody cares about mls for whatever reason. theyre more likely to be fans of english football than mls. youll see manchester united jerseys and shit like that on the street
TFC is a big deal for us in Toronto. Well not me, but a lot of people. I don't really follow soccer of any kind.

I think it would have been fantastic for the World Cup to be held in the US. A major barrier to North America enjoying soccer more is that all the top-quality games are in hugely different time-zones. Even if 1994 didn't grow the sport as much as was hoped, it surely made SOME difference, and the only way to keep growing it is to keep trying.
Lando mentioned a great example of TFC being very popular in Toronto, and that's with the team not even being very good.
I'm not a soccer fan at all myself (I take issue with the constant stoppages in play whenever anyone falls down), but I think it would be a great thing if the sport became more popular in North America.

What are public-messaging-only games like?
In your experience, do players in public-messaging-only games choose to ally and coordinate in full view of the other players, or is it more like a gunboat game but with the ability to negotiate draws amongst opposing factions, etc? Or somewhere in between?
