yeah ive not been a fan of anything post-civ III

They just changed the game so much, so much that anyone who has played any other civ wouldn't like it. It's like having Call of Duty stop using Perks and Killstreaks, Soul Calibur weapons, etc

edit: I can't say "anyone" that's just a stereotype, bound to be proven wrong and ok they had SOME good ideas but they got rid of MANY old good ideas.

they build civ for consoles nowadays. hence simpletown.
civ3 was boring too.

So how is it different from Civ III? That's what I used to play--until it broke or whatever ages ago, loved that game, though--and I was thinking of buying a new Civ game sometime soon, you know, get more nations, leaders, and the idea of religions sounded cool...I remember at least Civ IV, I think, offered Napoleon and Louis XIV for France and FDR/Washington for America, which I'd count as BIG improvements (though Lincoln for America IS admittedly a good choice.)


Really, I want all the good leaders, long gameplay, religions...it'd be nice if Israel and/or other nations in the Middle East were recognized beyond merely "Persia" and "Egypt" and "Babylon," given how important that region is, and I always felt it odd Spain wasn't in there, or the Mongols...

I just got it too, but i also got fallout new vegas (not as buggy as i was lead to believe) and decided to dive into new vegas 1st. Im pretty sure they will use the religion as bait to get people to shell out for the 1st or second expansion, one expansion will probably be all about new units, some new leaders etc and the next will be like Beyond the Sword(civ 4 2nd expansion) and have national companies, religion etc. If they really had balls they will make the religions have differing effects rather than all the same

I read in an interview that civ 5 maker belived the +- dip gave players too much of an advantage and you should get a "feel" for what you might be doing.

On the plus side civ V is very mod friendly, you can even download fan made mods via the game menu, I never seen a game maker do that before.

Completely disagree airborne. Policy is a much superior mechanism than civics and religion. I'm glad corporations are gone too. The economic and happyness systems are also huge improvements as u really have to caliberate both your building and growth strategies. The lack of 'stack of doom' and increased importance of tile-space for military engagements means a higher premium on tactical skills.

The only area I feel is still lacking (and always has) is diplomacy, though the 'research project' idea is far better than earlier 'tech trading' mechanisms.

The hex design, the 2-move-base and the extended city borders (and particularly the 'purchase tile' option) are all also improvements off the still-amazing civ IV.

Obi - civ IV expantion (beyond the sword) added spain, mongols, ottomans, celts, porteguise, and a few more

One other note... u can now max at 28 AI civs + 48 indipendent city-states... so the options are actually better on that front.

The only problem I've found so far is that my maxed out laptop vid card is STILL not enough to put all the graphics on 'high'. I may need to get a souped-up PC just for CIV5 =P

If you don't like it, get FIFA '11, I love that game so much

Black Ops needs more than just a few patches....a make over would be a start! Back to Fallout for me.

Haven't played the series since Civ III, but with the greta modding community they had for that game, I was able to enjoy it for years. My brother is big on the series too and he has Civ IV and loves it, especially, again, with a mod or two. Civ V may not be great now, but you just have to wait and see what the modding community can do with it.
