if all players have skype installed and post their contact info in global (or in their profiel status) they can arange to be online at the same time by using the in-game chat.

This sounds insanely fun, especially putting a face to a name, but setting up skype sounds like a pain in the butt, even though I'd like to do it for other reasons as well. Maybe this fall/winter when I have more time on my hands.

installing skype is about as hard or easy as any other piece of software.

it is cool because you can usually use it for free long distance calls to people who are at a computer anywhere in the world, though i do find i get a bit of a delay sometimes which really sucks...

This sounds interesting. An alternative to Skype would be gchat; it's built into gmail, and installing video/voice is easy as clicking one button. I would think we should have a text option as well, though, so you could communicate with those who say, live on the exact opposite schedule as you.

But the thing is, gmail/gchat is easier to install for those who might wish for an easier install (see: Madmarx) and most of us (I feel) have a gmail already, but it is unlikely they have a Skype. Just trying to open up options for others so we can figure out what we're all the most compatible with.

Skype is very easy to install, it only takes about 5 minutes to do so, if that. It also has capabilities to work in a just text format, a just voice format (for those of you who play diplomacy in your underwear :]) and a video and voice format, for full diplomatic abilities. Additionally, the group chat feature would make 3-way alliances far more likely, perhaps players could pull off an instant Russian stab or the Western triple.

If you haven't guessed by now, I think this is a fantastic idea, if it ever comes to fruition, PM me.

It sounds interesting, I do have skype and a phone. I would go for a live game or longer phases, because I think it's hard to get everyone online within 22 hrs.

That said, my verbal english is even worse than my writing skills are so that would give me a serious disadvantage...

I would love to do this. I'd suggest shortish turns (15 mins?) but with an agreement to pause or draw if the game hasn't finished by a set time. Timing might be tricky - I'm based in the UK, are most of you US?
