What McCain said during the last debate...
About 25 minutes into the debate McCain (in reference to townhall meetings) said, "The way Barry Goldwater and Jack Kennedy agreed to do before the intervention (touches nose & corrects himself)... the tragedy at Dallas."

To pause or not to pause... that is the question
In one of my games, a user requested to pause the game as he was not able to enter moves. I have chosen to accept, but the thought of not accepting crossed my mind (one reason being that the player is in no way bound by their pledge to start it again at a certain time).

Looking at some of the Winner takes all games, it appears that the stated restriction about >100 points to join doesn't apply. Does anyone know why? (Possibly this was in a previous post I missed)

End of Game Statements. Brief explanation?
I read of the existence of EOG statements in some other post, but - not having finished a game yet - I do not exactly know what this means (who does it? What is the typical content of it? Etc...)

Anybody would like to explain? Thanks!

3rd Presidential Debate: Best Moment ?
For me, the best moment was when McCain asked Obama how much his fine on Businesses ('Joe the Plumber') is if they didn't provide healthcare. He really hammered Obama on it. And Obama replied "zero, I provide an exception for small businesses." McCain was just floored, stunned, and looked like a dear in the headlights, a shocked/blank expression for a full minute.
DeliciousWolf (112 D)

It's like McCain doesn't expect Obama to actually be able to answer questions (another one: Ayers). If you weren't watching on a channel with split-screen, look for it, it's priceless.

Looks like Obama is the next president

I think his look of disbelief was trying to convey that obama wasn't telling the whole story.

I think the best line that's going to make headlines tomorrow is mccain's line on "i'm not george bush, if you want to run against bush you should've done so 4 years ago" or something like that.

p.s. by the looks of it, I'm guessing you're an obama fan
Archonix (246 D)

I haven't seen the debate yet (I will in one hour), but that explanation of McCain's 'look' seems to be a long shot. IMO if McCain didn't say outright that Obama was lying in a convincing way after that then point Obama.
lazysummer8484 (0 DX)
16 Oct 08 UTC
obama wasn't 'lying', but he changed the frame of the question, he assumed joe the plumber's business wasn't large enough to offer health insurance. then yeah there's no fine. but if it is one of the 'larger' small-businesses then there is a fine.

obama does have a fine, and as mccain said, we still don't know what that is.

think of it this way, mccain's question was obviously scripted and prepared. it couldn't have been a blunder. obama was just clever enough to turn it around. so when he said "no tax??" he was trying to convey that obama wasn't telling the whole story. he also made a comment on that small/large business mix up but it was pretty pathetic.

As a PolySci major form an Ivy, and a professional Economist, I really think Obama has continually failed at these debates. He hasnt really staed what his plan is, where the $ comes from and so on. Also his economics completely fail. They seem nice and fuzzy, but every time his economic policies, and things like his plan on health care, they have failed.

Hes a socialist, and, historical, he loses. when we look to pure logic, we can see that his platform fails. Granted, I don't support McCain(I am a Libertarian) but Obama would be a worthless president. Obama's plans have waaaay too many exceptions. Plans like that are always exploited, and cost the upper-class(the ones who have the biggest power to fix the economy, its a fact) to have their taxes raised.

How would you respond to the Economist's recent poll regarding Obama's economic plan? They only surveyed academic economists, and Obama came out with a fairly convincing win. The story is at http://www.economist.com/world/unitedstates/displaystory.cfm?STORY_ID=12342127

By the way my favorite moment was McCain's little "I watched the game" ploy which Obama called him out on
Archonix (246 D)

After actually seeing the 'no tax' statement Obama definitely came off better.

McCain didn't get that convincing win that he needed either according to most analysts.

Boxytheboxed - Can you give us a bit more detail on what the problems you see with Obama's plan are?
I loved Joe the Plumber. It made me giggle a little on the inside each time he was mentioned

Boxy,
"upper-class(the ones who have the biggest power to fix the economy)"

?? Do American economists still cling to trickle down economics, Washington consensus and Friedman Monetarism ??
because nobody else does

"[...]but every time his economic policies, and things like his plan on health care, they have failed."

Every time his policies... what? You're missing a verb there, mate.

And I have to agree about the Economist. I'm not sure how they are recently, but I remember they had been fairly conservative (fiscally) in their views in the past, so in all likelihood they were more likely to be biased against him. Not unlike you.

My favourite moment - McCain's facial reaction when Obama mentioned Warren Buffett. He almost seemed pissed off that Obama said that Buffett supported him.
DeliciousWolf (112 D)
16 Oct 08 UTC
Archonix - do you have a clip of that? Yeah, McCain seemed pissy/angry the whole debate. His problem is he had to continually appeal to his discontented base by attacking Obama, just to hold his party and base together, when he needed to be conciliatory to win the independents. Obama has his base firmly behind him, and was able to shift toward independents and capture that middle ground. Personally, the Joe Plumber became nauseating around the fifth time he was mentioned. For me, one of the highlights came when Obama chose NOT to attack Palin, as he could have easily done when asked to compare VPs, and just chose to play up Joe Biden. Classy, and controlled, very controlled.
Archonix (246 D)

I completely agree with you on the 'Joe the Plumber' statements. I guess he wanted to make his point by using a 'case' but it was ultimately quite annoying. Especially when most of his points were quite inane.

I looked on youtube for a specific clip but I couldn't find one. You would be able to find it if you watch the debate again though :P Here's Warren Buffett saying he supports either Hillary Clinton or Barrack Obama though if you're interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtWdFr1bkgA

Best part was when they both came out about how much they hate all the negative stuff, basically talking to eachother more than Americans. About things said at rallies, T-shirts, that sort of thing. It seemed to me like subliminally they were saying, "Man, John, doesn't it suck having so many people hate you?"

"Yeah man I know what you mean."
