What McCain said during the last debate...
About 25 minutes into the debate McCain (in reference to townhall meetings) said, "The way Barry Goldwater and Jack Kennedy agreed to do before the intervention (touches nose & corrects himself)... the tragedy at Dallas."

To pause or not to pause... that is the question
In one of my games, a user requested to pause the game as he was not able to enter moves. I have chosen to accept, but the thought of not accepting crossed my mind (one reason being that the player is in no way bound by their pledge to start it again at a certain time).

Some play once told me that the spirit of the game was to back stab people. Thoughts?
I think, reputation is key since many players end up playing with each again.

No restriction on joining winner takes all games
Looking at some of the Winner takes all games, it appears that the stated restriction about >100 points to join doesn't apply. Does anyone know why? (Possibly this was in a previous post I missed)

End of Game Statements. Brief explanation?
I read of the existence of EOG statements in some other post, but - not having finished a game yet - I do not exactly know what this means (who does it? What is the typical content of it? Etc...)

Anybody would like to explain? Thanks!

3rd Presidential Debate: Best Moment ?
For me, the best moment was when McCain asked Obama how much his fine on Businesses ('Joe the Plumber') is if they didn't provide healthcare. He really hammered Obama on it. And Obama replied "zero, I provide an exception for small businesses." McCain was just floored, stunned, and looked like a dear in the headlights, a shocked/blank expression for a full minute.

Disagree.

I agree... Who'd want to be President now? As he admits he knows nothing about economics anyway and the next 4 years will be full of economic policy.

I think his tetchiness is because he has come to realise what a poisoned chalice the republican nomination has been tied to the fact that he has had to run with this nutjob conservative who he disagrees with on most things.
sean (3490 D(B))

disagree strongly. but yes he is pissed that he has to pander to the agents of intolerance at the extreme ends of his party of appeal to the rep base.
DeliciousWolf (112 D)
16 Oct 08 UTC
Disagree, but I think much of his frustration comes from the fact that he's fighting not only Obama, but also his internal Republican party, which has never much liked him, and has forced on him things like Sarah Palin, Negative and Deceitful ads, and positions he has long disagreed with.
Treefarn (6094 D)

I wonder if he would have not better NOT pandering to his base. Chances are they don't stay home on election day, because got forbid Obama gets elected. So his base would vote for him. How many independents and Dems would have voted for him before he changed into this Sarah-Palin loving, say anything to get elected candidate? During the primaries, I was rooting for him, because I didn't like Hillary or Obama. Now, however, I find myself unable to vote for him.
DeliciousWolf (112 D)
16 Oct 08 UTC
Treefarn, I agree with you, but the problem for John is that he needed to energize his base (i.e. get them to go out and vote for him). Palin did that for him. Picking her was pure politics to shore up his base (country be damned). I agree completely, he needed to let Palin pander and whip the base into voting with white-hot white hatred (disgusting), and reach out to the independents. He didn't/can't do that, and he's going to lose because of it. I'm reminded of a Bill Clinton quote: "Democrats need to fall in love with their pick, Republicans fall in line."

Attacking Obama has been the wrong strategy for McCain, as it usually is for Candidates, you leave that to the VP pick. I think McCain chose hard-core party insiders, and their advising him with what the idealogues/base wants, not what needs to be done for him to win, which is compliment and agree with Obama. Ironically, their blind hatred for Obama is what's going to keep them from doing the very thing they need to do to win.

didn't you read about him defending obama at the rallies? how many times has obama done that for mccain?
kestasjk (64 DMod(P))

I'd say fewer people made inappropriate remarks about McCain, when Lewis made his remark (the only one I can think of) he retracted it

Also for all the defending McCain did at rallies he also rallied up the "fringes" with the really weak links between Obama and that domestic terrorist guy

McCain was the perfect candidate after the Republican failings over the Bush era, being that much more moderate, and I agree with Treefarn. With a Black opponent, the bigot vote is almost guarenteed already, so he should have stuck to his guns, not matter how hard that would be with the Party he has "behind" him.

Palin was a mistake. I would have been fine with either of them until the VP picks. I don't think I'm alone in that sentiment.

Obama looks good in the polls but people need to take into account the bradley effect, which gives visible minorities higher numbers than they will get in the election. I was reading up on swing states and apparently Missouri for example Obama needs a six point lead in the polls to have a shoty at winning the state.

First, let me preface this by saying I started out in the Primaries hoping for McCain vs. Clinton, as I thought both of them were good choices for the Country.

To me what's really characterized this campaign has been: Policy vs. Personality.

Obama/The Democrats have tried to make this campaign about policies, specific proposals, etc. and tried to avoid personal smears (as much as that's possible, anyways). McCain/Republicans have tried to win this on Personality, who do you trust? Who has nefarious connections? What don't we know? Who puts country first? etc. ( I believe this is why Palin was picked as well.) And I think, this would have worked (again) for the Republicans had not 1) George Bush abused his office so badly 2) The Financial Crisis happened.

This two things have pushed Policy to the forefront in most people's minds, exemplified by the Economy and made simply 'Personality' seem far more of a trivial issue. The McCain campaigns relative sparser and weaker policy proposals have given the advantage to Obama.
