Is this anything more than a jobs bill for expensive unionize labor just like the original stimulus bill was a jobs bill for unionized state employees? If you don't work in a union or you own a business that doesn't employ union labor do you exist in Obama's economic world view?

Forcing a draw
Is currently in a gunboat game (http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=65576) where the west has formed a perfect stalemate line against Turkey. However, he/she won't vote for a draw, resulting in a very prolonged game without any end. As there won't be a winner, is there a way to for example a mod to force a draw and end the game so we won't have to fill in the same orders over and over again?

@TC - " I also have no doubt you have never created a job and paid the salary, benefits, and taxes out of the profits of a business you owned in your life."

Salary, benefits (as agreed to in the hirign agreement), and taxes don't come out of profit. Profit is what is left after they are paid. They are operating expenses, as you well know. If you consider the money you pay your workers to be profit they are taking, then you have the wrong approach. Your employees are your greatest asset in *any* business and their costs are no different than the upkeep on the equipment or the rent/mortgage on the building your business occupies. Please don't consider their costs as lost profit, for without them you'd have never made the money to begin with.

I'll put it to you this way. As a partner in a consulting firm that does subcontracting to other consulting firm when we aren't free to do the work ourselves, We charge X per hour for the job. The subcontractor (usually an independent) charges Y per hour (less than X). X pe rhour isn't our profit. X-Y per hour is. Why? Because without the independent subcontractor, there would be no hours to bill X per hour for.

Okay TC you are right I have never created a job.

Can you then answer the question - how is that there is such a thing as a business owner who is a democrat? A leftist, god forbid? Explain this phenomenon to me please.
My father is a business owner employs people, and is a democrat. Both Grandfathers were business owners who employed people and were democrat. My uncle was a business owner who employed people and was a democrat . My best friend is a business owner who employs people and is a democrat.

Small businesses lose more jobs than they create. They also create inferior paying jobs in terms of both wages and especially benefits.

"Small businesses lose more jobs than they create"

My instincts are screaming at me that that is so far wrong it's just plain silly, but before I launch happily into a good oldfashioned row I'd be interested to hear why you think that's the case.

Reports like this:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/08/19/small-businesses-cut-most_n_687455.html
http://www.thestreet.com/story/10861212/the-myth-of-small-business-job-creation.html

"The researchers concludes that there is "no systematic relationship between firm size and growth." Where there is a pattern, it shows that small businesses can actually detract from job growth. It cites, as an illustration, that in 2005, small businesses lost approximately 1 million jobs, even as the overall economy expanded by about 2.5 million."

Thucy, I guess you think the Democratic Party is monolithic. What an erroneous view.
You also seem utterly ignorant of the economic policy of John F. Kennedy, a democrat.
Even Jimmy Carter deregulated the airlines.
Try not to be so silly in your posts.

Many of you may think that Putin means well but I don't. He is one of those dangerous individuals who ignores the dark side of human nature and has the completely erroneous belief that when a human being becomes a member of the ruling government elite they lose their penchant for corruption and the dark side of human nature and become wiser and compassionate.
He chooses to ignore the fact that once Lenin gained control of government he entered into a blind, murderous acquisition of power for powers sake that Stalin brought to a genocidal crescendo.
Big government statists the world over share the same flaw in varying degrees of madness.

@ Putin

Lets pull another quote from thestreet.com

"the trio's paper does not dispute the importance of small businesses and points out that "startups contribute substantially to both gross and net job creation.""

The claim that small businesses detract from job growth seems to be a pretty dodgy conclusion drawn up by the writers of the article and seems to be completely at odds with the opinions of the economists themselves.

All those reports essentially say is that when times are hard it is the smaller firms that tend to suffer most, which is what you would expect. Larger firms often have a bit more room to manouver, taking action such as forcing their smaller suppliers to slash their prices. Smaller firms all too often end up taking the pain for their larger partners and, as they tend to be pretty efficient in the first place, have little option but to cut costs by firing people. But to conclude from this that small busnesses lose more jobs than they create is, frankly, a bit nutty. I expect better from you, Putin!

Ignoring all previous posts....

We have family friends that moved to Saudi Arabia for work. Husband, Wife, 3 daughters and 1 son.

The *stupid* question: "Could blah blah blah..." Of course she could walk around the city in a bikini. And then she would be arrested and probably stoned to death. What a fucking stupid, ignorant question. But the woman wearing the bikini would know full well what she was doing, and therefore would be inviting the death by stoning.

Who the hell are you to question the moral principles and laws of a sovereign nation -- which you are, by means of your question -- when you so often spout the radical right principles that you do. I think it would be accurate to say that you think that the United States of America is a free and sovereign and should be free to IGNORE the suggestions of the rest of the world. But, by implication, you want to impose your own version of morality upon another nation?

That, Mr. Tett, is why you are such a hypocritical asshole.

@Octavious....Putin *IS* the dark side of human nature...
Putin33 (111 D)
06 Sep 11 UTC
As opposed to you who thinks that the best thing to do about the 'dark side' of human nature is to incentivize cruelty and greed and allow it to go without any public oversight whatsoever, and somehow this will lead to good results.

And how strange that you hail Kennedy when he was our first real Keynesian President who advocated deficit spending to boost the economy. LOL.

Putin33 (111 D)
06 Sep 11 UTC
@ Octavious,

I think you overlooked the part where it said the economy expanded in 2005 by 2.5 million jobs despite the fact that small businesses lost 1 million. So the excuse that small businesses do worse when times are bad doesn't quite hold up. I don't see where you're getting this idea that the conclusion is 'dodgy' or at odds with the rest of the argument. The whole point of the paper was to say that newness, not size, is a much better engine of job creation. So to the extent to which small businesses tend to be start up businesses, they tend to create jobs. But the problem with them is that they tend to lose jobs after a year more often than not.

In truth, Tettleton's Crew represents the dark side of human nature: In the name of freedom, he seeks to oppress. At least a good socialists openly states, "I'm gong to oppress you for your own good!" Tettleton smiles at you while he knifes you in the back. He is as inconsistent in his arguments as any extremist left-winger on this site, but cries freedom while spouting his lies.

I was wrong, and I apologize.
Octavious (2701 D)

@ Putin

It would be dangerous to draw too much from that without looking at the figures. One thought that jumps instantly to mind is that a small business that is doing well and expanding suddenly ceases to be classified as small, leading to the figures being distorted somewhat. I do, however, fully support the conclusion of the economists mentioned that new small businesses are a key ingredient to sorting out the economy.
krellin apologizing? What next, Tettleton admitting he's a troll?

Thucy,

Another thing you should realize is comparing yesterday's businessmen with today's is apples and oranges. Older businessmen never had to deal with the legal, regulatory, or taxation that modern businessmen get hit with.

The amount of energy wasted on those three topics that could be poured into the business is a horrendous waste.
Let me just sum up this topic with a few quotes from TC:
-"By not contradicting yourself Don Q. It's an elementary step."
-"I'm wrong all the time, but I'm also right sometimes as well. "

Shocktrooper...I'm one of the few people on here with enough integrity to actually apologize when wrong. You should try it sometime, asshole. (WHY did I call you an asshole? Because you think that my apology was an invitation to attack my character....which simply illuminates YOUR character: Asshole.)
This by the way is how a business man runs a government. Notice the efficiency no non business owner could match.

http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2011/09/07/313260/after-911-perrys-texas-wasted-homeland-security-money-on-sports-cars-neckties-and-a-hog-catcher/

feel free to copy it for TC so he can claim it is a "poor article"
its not a "poor article", its liberal propaganda fabricated by Obama himself. Obviously.

@krellin, I'm not going to apologize, because i think my statement was justified. Just like your statement about me being an asshole is justified. Though I do believe a more correct term would be "cynic", rather than resorting to swear words which clearly indicate your thought processes and/or vocabulary are limited.
