Going for all points or playing nice
When you are about to solo, do you typically try to rack up as many points as you can in the last turn, or be nice to your allies and get just enough SCs to solo?

NOT another gun control debate - really it isn't
Please do not turn this into a gun control thread, we have other threads for that. This thread only uses gun control as an example.

Opinions? As the thread subject suggests, I disagree with the vast majority of the points presented in the article. Very curious what you all think about this. The blog article comments are interesting as well, as is usually the case.

The problem with the Estrada bitten joke is that bitten actually means "To ask; to beg; to plead; to request" in German where as de nada is truly you're welcome. Not the same word at all.
ghug (5068 D(B))
28 Jan 13 UTC
Draug, they both mean "you're welcome." one literally means "of nothing," another literally means "please," ours literally means "you are welcome." It's extremely idiomatic in any language, so it doesn't make all that much sense to make that argument.
Draugnar (0 DX)
28 Jan 13 UTC
Well, bitte means your welcome when joined with schoen bit can be shortened to just bitte. However, the months and months I spent in Germany having to speak the language made it very clear to me that bitten (the plural) never ever refers to some imaginary plural of "you're welcome" but *always* refers to the plural of the only noun form of bitte, which is a plea. You're welcome doesn't have a plural in German.

And let me ask, ghug, have you lived in Germany for the better part of 6 months or more? I had to learn conversational German for the time I was over there working a six month project as an expat for Xomox in Lindau.

"Bitte" auf Deutsch means "please" and "you're welcome". It's kinda like aloha in Hawaiian, it means "hello" and "good bye" and a number of other things from what I understand. But a proper response to the Spanish "gracias" is "de nada" and a proper response to the German "danke" is "bitte"
philcore (317 D(S))
28 Jan 13 UTC
@draug: stop making shit up. It's an appropriate response to "danke" to say "bitte"

ghug (5068 D(B))

Alright Draug, I thought the prompt was stupid too, but now you're just being an idiot. First, he made it pretty clear what he meant, so you can't use that bullshit reading comprehension excuse that you always use. Second, bitten can be a plural verb form too. Believe it or not, it's not just nouns that have plurals. Third, you gave the definition as "to ask," which, the last time I checked was a verb. Fourth, it's a damn interjection in a language you don't speak. The rules aren't exactly strict. Fifth, living in Germany for SIX WHOLE MONTHS is not really that impressive, but I commend you on your ability to awkwardly attempt to brag about yourself at every opportunity.

@Phil - Use bitten though. I agree bitter can be please or you're welcome but not bitten. It is a misuse of the word to use the plural of the noun which is literally "to beg" or "to ask for". It would be almost as bad as saying wilkommen for welcome in response to danke.

And no, I don't think I'm the only German speaking player. Hell, my German is probably the weakest of all the German speaking players here being as I had to take a refresher from High School before going to Germany for the project in 06 and haven't used it regularly since.

Actually, my Russian is better.

Ernts that isn't clever and you are forbidden to participate in the Hink Pink thread from now on. YJ has spoken.

OK not really. Still though, not clever.

Now, the rest of you quit disrupting my awesome thread with lame arguments nobody cares about and instead answer this:

"what would you call a man who makes Nazi figurines out of wood?"
