Why we love Webdiplomacy.net
I like this website because people here are unique.

I appreciate that this forum is smart and intimidating. I have always been labelled an idiot or a genius and here its amusing how I am somehow both.
I wanna apologize though for being rude and deliberately misleading to this community. I also wanna say this site has already given me some friends I want for life.

"racism...racist...inequality..."

You have yet to say what exactly is racist about it. Allowing only American nationals to vote is racist?

"If you read things other than the Washington Times, you would have been informed."

If you read things other than liberal propaganda, you would have been informed.

Try registering to vote if you are a senior citizen in a nursing home. If you live in Arizona , most senior citizens no longer have valid driver's licenses, passports, American Indian registration card, secondary ID like utility bills because those are all paid by the nursing home. Unless you had the health to wait for an hour or more at the Motor Vehicle Division you don't have a state issued ID. Then unless a family member picks it up you can't turn in an absentee ballot without a high chance it will be rejected because they are the only ones that can now collect them.

So Trump finally released his foreign policy advisers and I must say, for all all his talk about not being an interventionist he sure does hang around with a lot of neocons.

Arizona Protesters Block Highway to Trump Rally; Activist Sent to ICE Despite Being Citizen
MARCH 21, 2016HEADLINES

In Arizona, demonstrators shut down a highway leading to a rally for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump outside Phoenix Saturday, delaying the rally ahead of Tuesday’s key primaries. Three people were arrested, including Jacinta Gonzalez, a leading immigrant advocate who had locked her neck to a van’s window as part of the roadblock. Jacinta González said she was then transferred to immigration custody—despite being a U.S. citizen.

Jacinta González: 'Yesterday, when we were arrested, I know that the two colleagues I was arrested with were released, but because my last name is González, I was immediately questioned by ICE and placed on a detainer. After they were let go and were able to go home, I was transferred to immigration custody. This just proves that the hatred and the profiling that Trump says and tries to promote is the same that exists within this administration.'

Also, even is moveon is facilitating organisation of agitators, paying for that is considered speech by the US supreme court. And this paying for protestors to go out and protest is protected by the first amendment.

How and ever, i suspect most protesters who go to disrupt a Trump rally are grass roots objectors. I don't think there is any amount of money which can convince people to go out and protest like that.

And if moveon.org is actually puttin money into training grass roots protesters, then they are entirely entitled to organise a political movement. That is a part of tue democratic process.

Democracy is about the demos, the people, not the demagogues, like Trump.
Putin33 (111 D)
22 Mar 16 UTC
I can tell you plenty of Marxist groups are protesting and they have nothing to do with moveon, nor are they paid.
leon1122 (190 D)

@JECE Moral of the story is, if you aren't illegal, there's no reason to protest deporting ILLEGAL immigrants.

@orthaic Those are not peaceful protesters. They're one step short of being rioters.

@Leon, then why aren't they being arrested? Or would that be the state curtailing their right to free speech and assembly?

Just want to know what your position is... because i do know that other countries don't have a constitutional protection of free speech - and infact have laws banning certain kinds of speech. (so look at hate speech laws in the UK, which the Westboro baptist church would certainly be guilty of violating, and Trump might be...)

I have no problem with protesters protesting, but blocking a highway seems a tad bit excessive, yes? I mean, if you want to have a parade or something, you have to get a permit, for the safety of yourself and drivers.

leon1122: Bullshit. If you are a legal resident at a protest you run the risk of getting sent to an immigration detention facility simply for having a Hispanic name. What would happen to you if you didn't have papers?

Moral of the story:
"In essence, it’s the equivalent of if President Trump were to come in to be the president of the United States, they’re handing him a car with a full tank of gas to deport communities, incarcerate them and racial profile. . . . ICE and Border Patrol are the largest police force in America, yet they have very little oversight. So imagine what would happen with an agency that’s already rogue, that’s already detaining citizens and violating the Constitution, under someone like Donald Trump. So we understand the difficulties of the reality now and understand the dangers of having someone like Trump in control of that type of infrastructure."

@Leon, do you have a problem with the 'money is speech, thus spending money on elections is protected by the constitution' interpretation (of the supreme court) And how does that inpact your understanding of paying protestors to come out and object to Trump?
principians (881 D)
26 Mar 16 UTC
@leon
So, to ND's manipulating Washington post article, now you add this.

is that the quality of your 'proofs'?

Guess what, 'proving' is not about that creationist practice of using whatever fits your theory and rejecting whatever does not. It's not either about what makes sense or does not make sense to you.

I understand that the conspiranoia of that reporter, that Clinton and Soros are trying to take any political adventage can make sense. It also made sense that Van der Lubbe set fire to the reichstag under some communist plan.

But, you know, there are *many* people for which it also makes (more) sense that it was Göring as brilliant tactic to bring power to the Nazi party.

And when you consider that Trump is an dedicated student of Mein Kampf...
Putin33 (111 D)

"I mean, if you want to have a parade or something, you have to get a permit, for the safety of yourself and drivers."

The fact that we're talking about the protest is due to the blocking of the highway, so I'd say it was effective. Also I'm reminded of that prescient Woody Allen clip.

@mainly Principian "Additionally, Trump protesters seem to have an obsession with the middle finger. Trump supporters seem far more civil." Anyone that believes that an obsession with the middle finger, which is a perfectly legitimate form of free speech, is a bad sign or worse than condoning and being willing to pay for legal fees in defense of assault, has a screwed up sense of logic. Ignore these trolls.

@ Leon and Nd
Get over yourselves. No one here has absolved the blocking of an ambulance. It is clear that all those individuals should have been arrested. Your attempt to make Trump appear less of a jackass by directing our attention to a bunch of idiots who aren't running for public office and obviously don't represent the majority of protesters is absurd and childish. There are plenty of peaceful protests out there, and whether or not a small minority is violent does not make the cause of a protest wrong or any less important. I'm not even going to check this again, because its not worth any more of my time. I miss Draugnar; at least he knew how to troll with style.

@ Putin, you're not too bad. I used to think you were crazy. I still do. :)

I'd love to have a discussion about why someone would block an ambulance, but I'd much rather have it with someone who will actually listen.
KingCyrus (511 D)

Putin I don't think anyone is denying the protest was effective, but that doesn't make it ok to shut down a high way. Feel free to like the highway for ten miles, but blocking it is (probably) illegal.

Yes, civil disobedience is certainly illegal. At least in this case, unlike the various rightwing highway blockades/illegal protests which conservatives have endorsed with enthusiasm (Clive Bundy - 2014), this one isn't full of people armed to the teeth and threatening violence against the government.

These protestors were crazy in a different way. It's not excusable even if it's not necessarily as bad as some others.
Putin33 (111 D)
27 Mar 16 UTC
It's how protests work. Major roads are routinely blocked. It's a very very common act of civil disobedience. What do you think happened in Tahrir Square in 2011? Tahrir is the busiest traffic circle in Cairo. It was shut down by protesters for a very long time. Ditto Tiananmen. These actions are always hailed as heroic when in other countries, but "crazy" in our own.
leon1122 (190 D)

Perhaps that's because we live in a democracy, and disobeying the laws passed by the people's representatives is essentially spitting in the face of the people's voice.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

I think it's quite crazy and reckless to stand in front of a tank as it rolls toward you, actually. Makes for a good photo for a TIME Magazine cover, though.

"Perhaps that's because we live in a democracy, and disobeying the laws passed by the people's representatives is essentially spitting in the face of the people's voice."

So that's how you feel about the rancher protest, is it?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
27 Mar 16 UTC
Generally, I think it's a lot more immature than it is heroic to put yours or other lives at risk even in the name of something greater. You're not much good dead and you're not terribly heroic if you block ambulances either.
leon1122 (190 D)
27 Mar 16 UTC
"So that's how you feel about the rancher protest, is it?"

Yes, it is. If they want to graze, than they ought to pay their dues.
Putin33 (111 D)

We wouldn't have any freedom in America if it wasn't for illegal protests.

Putin33 (111 D)

"You're not much good dead and you're not terribly heroic if you block ambulances either."

Tell that to the underground railroad, the United Farm Workers campaigns, the anti-Vietnam war draft card raids, the anti-segregation campaigns of SNCC/CORE, and countless other acts that have won Americans greater freedom.
