What McCain said during the last debate...
About 25 minutes into the debate McCain (in reference to townhall meetings) said, "The way Barry Goldwater and Jack Kennedy agreed to do before the intervention (touches nose & corrects himself)... the tragedy at Dallas."

Who will be the next President of the United States?
Now that the debates are over and with only weeks to go before the election, who do you think will win the Presidency and (if you are inclined) why?

McCain serve this country?

really man?
the guy that ratted on all his fellow POW's, got elected to the senate because he has money and privledge. a guy with 9 houses cant be that altruistic.
not to mention he's evicting indians on black mesa with tanks and flamethrowers so peabody coal can strip mine holy land.
the guy who thought it was funny to sing about bombing innocent women and children.
are you fucking kidding me?

Sicarius that is despicable. I hope you get a bayonet to the groin just like he did. What have you done for this country? Nothing Biff, you've done nothing.

Oh yeah cause, I gamble on that kind of thing.
No. I haven't.
From the studies I've been reading on, Bradley effect is at most worth 4% swing. Obama's going to have it by more than that going in.

The real figure:
Obama 8
McCain 4

IMO discussing an event where he dies is not and should not be out of bounds. He should be given a degree of respect while discussing it though.

I think that Invictus' extreme right views have actually surpassed Sicarius' far left. People are actually choosing to ignore all of his statements :P
Invictus (240 D)
17 Oct 08 UTC
Respecting John McCain's service is extreme right? It shouldn't be a partisan issue that he spent 5 years in a North Vietnamese prison cell and was tortured. Him choosing to remain when given the chance to be released is just about the most honorable thing anyone can do with their lives.

But he'll still lose.

Ron Paul '12?
Archonix (246 D)

Your idea that protest against the government is immoral and that attacking a political figure who was in the army is over the line is extreme right. The idea that authority deserves your total respect is as well. Where do you think you would be without the Boston Tea Party or if Gandhi didn't burn the passes in South Africa? Its an essential part of a government run by the people. One that you seem to attack in all its forms.
Chrispminis (916 D)

The question of McCain's (in)ability to lead America aside, he shouldn't be belittled, he's still a greater man than many. With that aside,

Obama 10
McCain 4

Ron Paul 'Never (It's not the political climate for him, and I don't think it will be in four years, or in his life time. The world's moving left.)
Invictus (240 D)
17 Oct 08 UTC
I never said protesting against the government is immoral. That's a ludicrous thing to say.

I just think we ought to give McCain credit for his determination. McGovern was a war hero too, and even though his views were opposite of what I think is right he still served his country well and should be commended for that.

You put me out to be some sort of goose stepping autocrat. You extrapolate too much from a stupid online forum.
Invictus (240 D)
17 Oct 08 UTC
I know McGovern was on the ticket 36 years ago, but it's still valid. I suppose John Kerry would have worked just as well...
DeliciousWolf (112 D)
17 Oct 08 UTC
You know what, after the putrid and DISGUSTING way the Republicans tore down John Kerry, a purple-heart decorated war-vet with their campaign of lies (swift-boating), also Senator Max Cleland (a triple fucking amputee!) I say fuck any Republican who thinks McCain is beyond criticism because he's a vet.

Sure he was a POW. I give him due respect. So were a lot of guys. And that was 30+ years ago. There has to be more than being a POW to qualify you for President!

Republicans should hang their heads in shame for the way they've stripped down honorable vets in this country for political purposes. The Democrats and Obama HAVEN'T done that to McCain, and by their better example casts the accusing finger at Republicans and John McCain and anyone else who uses personal attacks on a persons' patriotism and love of country to win an election. Indirectly naming Obama as a terrorist is exactly that.

Shame, John McCain, Shame!
Shame, John McCain, Shame, Shame!

Palin's encouragement of those shouting out that Obama must die is horrendous, but a clear one way ticket to a JFK-scenario.
Gobbledydook (1389 D(B))

Obama is certain to win. He 'won' all the debates, humiliating McCain and pointing out what an inadequate candicacy he is at the same time. Palin gives McCain a negative bonus, cause no-one wants such an irresponsible lady becoming acting President. Obama is young and 'energetic', McCain is old - even his policies are old-, so I don't think McCain stands a chance. 99% Obama wins for me. There's still that 1%, so watch out!

Obama 10
McCain 4

@Gobbledydook
While I do think in the end Palin is a drag on the ticket with most voters, given how incompetent she has shown herself to be, I wouldn't say that "no-one" wants someone like her to be president. There is a frighteningly (terrifyingly really) large minority of people in this country who would LOVE to have her or someone like her as president. God I can't even imagine the damage a Palin administration would do to this country.
Obama plus one for me and its the electorql college who predicts he will win right now if everything stays the same. Thats a BIG IF

Hat-trick...since you brought up JFK...what do you make of this from what McCain said in Wednesday's debate:

About 25 minutes into the debate McCain (in reference to townhall meetings) said, "The way Barry Goldwater and Jack Kennedy agreed to do before the intervention (touches nose & corrects himself)... the tragedy at Dallas."

You can view it here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvdfO0lq4rQ

Fast forward to about 24:20...he starts the above sentence at precisely 24:30 and uses the word 'intervention' at precisely 24:35.

Intervention?!

Under what circumstances is it appropriate to use the term "intervention" to describe the JFK "tragedy"?!

DeliciousWolf (112 D)

Someone smarter than I wrote that this election hasn't been Obama vs. McCain, it's been a national referendum on Obama. I think that's pretty insightful, and further explains the whole McCain attack strategy, and how Obama is winning without going too negative.

( If anyone know the article, please post a link.)

I was only speaking for myself, DeliciousWolf. I never condoned the swiftboating attacks on John Kerry. You need to calm down.
DeliciousWolf (112 D)

I don't get easily upset about politics, but if there's one thing that pisses me off, it's smearing vets' service, which ironically, 'Republicans' seem to have no problem doing. Their dirty tactics dishonor themselves, their party, and this country, yet they always wrap themselves in the flag of 'patriotism' like their the only ones who can claim to love their country. It just pisses me off.
DeliciousWolf (112 D)

My anger wasn't directed at you, Invictus :)
Katsarephat (100 D)

I just hate how Republicans are able to wrap themselves up in the flag of patriotism and of morality, yet they are the worst at each and just use dirty Rove-style tactics to win elections they should not be winning.

Pisses me off so much.
Let's be objective here guys, I have several conservative friends who make the exact same complaints about the Democrat's tactics. If you thought going into this that both sides were going to play fair, you're a fool.
In the end, I don't think it matters much. Obama's got the momentum, he's got the media behind him, he made a heck of a lot better choice on VP, and he's just cooler than McCain.

About the intervention thing. I listened to it a couple time and i think he means that the tragedy got in the way of the town hall meetings that were scheduled. It was a bad wording, but i dont think that he was referring to the tragedy as an intervention. Im not doing this to protect McCain, i am a democrat.

To pause or not to pause... that is the question
In one of my games, a user requested to pause the game as he was not able to enter moves. I have chosen to accept, but the thought of not accepting crossed my mind (one reason being that the player is in no way bound by their pledge to start it again at a certain time).

End of Game Statements. Brief explanation?
I read of the existence of EOG statements in some other post, but - not having finished a game yet - I do not exactly know what this means (who does it? What is the typical content of it? Etc...)

Anybody would like to explain? Thanks!

3rd Presidential Debate: Best Moment ?
For me, the best moment was when McCain asked Obama how much his fine on Businesses ('Joe the Plumber') is if they didn't provide healthcare. He really hammered Obama on it. And Obama replied "zero, I provide an exception for small businesses." McCain was just floored, stunned, and looked like a dear in the headlights, a shocked/blank expression for a full minute.
