Is this anything more than a jobs bill for expensive unionize labor just like the original stimulus bill was a jobs bill for unionized state employees? If you don't work in a union or you own a business that doesn't employ union labor do you exist in Obama's economic world view?

Mind the gap!
Does anyone else get the urge to fill in the holes in your territory? You know those islands of alien colour spoiling your empire. How far will you go - divert an army a move? Two moves?

My megalomania has no room for anyone else, it's the itch I have to scratch.

When should I lay off of the sex? Should I slow down when the women lose their individual robotic identities and combine forces to become the Megazord, or is that, instead, the perfect time to finally bang that hag Rita?

Forcing a draw
Is currently in a gunboat game (http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=65576) where the west has formed a perfect stalemate line against Turkey. However, he/she won't vote for a draw, resulting in a very prolonged game without any end. As there won't be a winner, is there a way to for example a mod to force a draw and end the game so we won't have to fill in the same orders over and over again?

Can anyone defend evolution?
Can anyone defend the idea that a "species" that diminishes its relations to another species in exchange for increased evolutionary imposition of genetic variation among lifeforms can produce life as we know it?

Could this happen?
Could a woman walk down the street in Mecca in a bikini?
If this couldn't happen something is wrong with the people and society in Mecca.

Could a comedian on a television show in the Soviet Union make fun of Joseph Stalin the way that Chevy Chase made fun of Gerald Ford?
Of course not and that points out the inescapable fatal flaw of Marxism.

Does everyone have healthcare in America?
Of course not and that points out the inescapable fatal flaw of Capitalism.

Every society has it's problems
santosh (335 D)

No, they do not point to flaws in those systems. All societies draw lines on what is and what is not acceptable behavior. Some are freer than others, but that does not make them any more 'right'.

A man cannot walk around with a leaf covering his groin in New York, unlike in dense forests in Central Africa. By extending your argument, something is wrong with the people and society in New York.
Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)
01 Sep 11 UTC
Saying that all societies can draw lines on what is and what is not acceptable behavior is a blank check for any action in the name of society, a statement without any limits, and an invitation to create any rationalism you like.

Poor post santosh.

So wearing a bikini is now equivalent to universal health care Stiglitz?

Thank you for your intellectually surrendering my point in a public post.
Hugo_Stiglitz (100 D)

It's still a flaw in a society, so yes

Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)

Hugo, did my original point make you so intellectually uncomfortable you couldn't respond clearly and directly to it and instead attempted a transparent bait and switch to another topic to escape the original point you were incapable of addressing.
santosh (335 D)
01 Sep 11 UTC
It is. It is an invitation to create any rationalism that the society itself finds acceptable. One society has no authority to advice you on what is correct in another using measures that the first society finds acceptable.

If a Muslim can claim the right to wear a full Burka in public in the United States then an American woman can claim the right to wear a bikini in the Saudi Arabia. The operative word here is hypocrisy.

Can USA guys get into a house in the night in another country, handcuff several children under 5 years old on their backs and then shoot them in the head?
Yes of course they can!!!
Can they do it and then not pay for it??
Oh yes they can!!!
Can they have stupid parrots at home repeating that what is wrong is using or not bikinis intead of looking at what is beign done on their name and with their flag?
Yes of course they can. Sadly.
TBroadley (178 D)
01 Sep 11 UTC
TC, not having universal healthcare is a bigger flaw than not being able to walk down a street in a bikini. (I dearly hope that we agree on that point.) Does this mean that America's society is more flawed than Saudi Arabia's?
Hugo_Stiglitz (100 D)
01 Sep 11 UTC
@TC

No, you idiot. I'm not changing the topic, I'm just pointing out that every society has it's flaws and that it's unfair of you to cherry pick from the ones that you don't belong to.

That LAST thing i want to do is argue Healthcare with you, in no way would that end well
Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)
01 Sep 11 UTC
The Sophists introduced the same appeal to rationalism in ancient Athens only to have that argument completely demolished by Socrates who established there are timeless ethical standards for any human society that cannot be infringed by religion or the state.

I would suggest reading Plato's Dialogues to prevent a repetition of the same mistake.

I'll give you some time to calm down and collect yourself.
Post something rational whenever you feel better.

TB: Most people don't have access to health care in Saudi Arabia anyway...
Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)
01 Sep 11 UTC
Hugo, while you are collecting yourself you might want to contemplate the incongruity in your attempt to compare the exercise of a freedom, wearing a bikini, with the supply of a commodity, healthcare.

It's a basic error of comparing apples to oranges in addition to being a transparent bait and switch.

I am interested in reading a well reasoned post that explains why it is perfectly acceptable for a Muslim women to be allowed to wear a Burka in downtown New York City and an American women not being allowed to wear bikini in downtown Mecca.
Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)
01 Sep 11 UTC
TB, I would not accept your statement that an abridgment of freedom is less important than healthcare. I would suggest that you ask an inmate in a prison who just received healthcare if they would rather have that or freedom of self expression.

After cleaning my keyboard a bit too rigorously, my backspace and enter keys have stopped working. It's not too big a deal since I'm likely to get a new laptop for Christmas, but for the short term it's aggravating. How can I change some settings so that, say, my extra shift is a new enter?
