Early game. I recall starting (and stopping) an idea to metagame against the mods (banding together just because we were non-mods) and drawing as a four way. My nixing the idea didn't go well with Germany.
My relationship with Germany went back and forth. I thought France and I would make a great team early on, but then he moved against me. My salvation came in the form of a two-fleet build Germany. France agreed that he should move against Germany considering how open the field was.
This is the extent to my memory of the early game. I know I flip-flopped between EG and EF quite a bit, and that was a novice error. I eventually (1906 maybe?) decided to eliminate Germany. He was finally too overbearing. This was about the time that Austria was eliminated too I think. Then my sitter took over.
I returned to find the jug imploded and Austria gone (not the ghost of Rome's past as he was when I last saw him). The next decade saw a hard, hard time of me trying desperately to reclaim my island from France and trying to stop five different solo attempts.
In the end, I truly misordered. I intended to take Brest and move to Norwegian so I could say "I'm taking Brest just to keep you honest, France," since he had offered me a three way between him, Russia, and me. This would have hopefully kept France looking south long enough for me to deal a devastating blow (sorry, abge, but I wasn't about to help anyone solo). Considering the misorder, I was either going to negotiate one fleet build with France (to protect my waters while he continued south) or two fleet builds if negotiations fell through.
In the end, I think the first decade of play was poor on my part, but the second decade saw a mix of keen moves and novice moves. The rematch will be different. (I nominate redhouse or Poozer for the replacement to sand goose.) but I need a breather. Give me a month or two. Whoo, what a game.
Biggest regret: breaking my northern stalemate to move against Russia. I don't know if he actually would have killed me, but I should not have made myself so vulnerable to France (even if that is what ultimately got my island back).
