…Apology on my end for whatever happened whenever it happened some time back. I had shoulder surgery a month ago and was on painkillers. Not to say I'm not an idiot at times, but that contributed.

I just watched Rumble 2012, the debate between Bill O Reilly and Jon Stewart
Question to the Yankees: how is Jon Stewart *not* your President yet? That was not debating, that was art.

Red is Blue, Blue is Red, In Another Life, INSTEAD...?
Imagine yourself with a key, KEY value or ideal that makes you YOU inverted.
What would you be doing right now? What would you be like, do you think?
How would friends/folks here react differently to you?
(Bonus points if you can say WHY you're not like that mirror self in real life)

What is a romantic yet not romantic gift for someone?
OK, so I have my "office wife" who I flirt with (no harm in flirting as long as it stays flirting) and I plan to bring gifts back with me from Canada tomorrow. I got all my wife's stuff, and got stuff for a couple of my male coworkers, but I need something for my flirtatious (and very cute) "office wife." Not too romantic that it goes over the line, but something mroe than a fridge/desk magnet. Any ideas?

I keep forgetting which rule takes precedence
1. A unit that has been dislodged cannot affect the province that dislodged it.
2. A unit can't cut support directed toward the province it is in.

Eric Hobsawn, Companion of Honour
I gather the recently deceased unreconstructed Stalinist Eric Hobsawn became a Companion of Honour in 1998, during Blair's period in office. I was wondering, even if by analogy, whether all terrorists eventually get to take tea with the Queen?

^^ Probably the most tedious post since the cuttin' and pastin' heyday of Tettleton's Chew...

I imagine HM would have more chance of a sensible conversation with Hobsbawm than with grubby little liars like Blair or Cameron...

Leaving aside the personal abuse, I tend to look at it from the perspective of Hobsawn. I really curious as to why he accepted the ''honour''. In view of his unreconstructed Stalinism I would have thought that he would classify this relic of Feudalism more as a badge of dishonour.

largeham (149 D)

I wouldn't know about Hobsbawm being a eurocommunist, but I would say his early books are quite good.
Putin33 (111 D)

How did you get your degree? By believing in ghost stories, hating women, and being a dirty smear merchant who lies pathologically? Even your imperialist piece of trash friend Niall Ferguson had nice things to say about Hobsbawm, but I guess you're too low to appreciate a great historian.
Hobsbawm in the 70s was a champion of the Italian CP, which had disavowed M-L completely, and he was advocating for a purge of the militant tendency in the Labour Party. Fulham as usual doesn't have a clue what he's talking about.

Yeah, fulham, what the hell. Even if you thought he was an unreconstructed stalinist (he wasn't) his writings in isolation should be enough to command awe and respect. He is perhaps among the greatest of all historians in the twentieth century. Marxism is a legitimate political position however much you disagree with it and it is crazy to equate him with a terrorist...

I mean, he says things like:

""I have never tried to diminish the appalling things that happened in Russia, though the sheer extent of the massacres we didn't realise. . . . In the early days we knew a new world was being born amid blood and tears and horror: revolution, civil war, famine—we knew of the Volga famine of the early '20s, if not the early '30s. Thanks to the breakdown of the west, we had the illusion that even this brutal, experimental, system was going to work better than the west. It was that or nothing."""

Kinda funny that this John Bull (shitter) is calling Hobsbawm a 'terrorist' when he (Fulham) claims Al Qaeda was framed for 9-11.
