I also run an NCAA men's basketball pool, been doing so for at least a dozen years. I remember many times, with around 100 entries, that first place was won by someone that didn't know a thing about college basketball, they just looked at the rankings and made some picks. Turned $5 into $200 pretty fast!

For those of us that know something, we often bring in biases that mess our brackets up anyway! When you make your picks, it's pretty easy to find out who is favored in the matchup and by how much, just go with the odds most of the time and mix it up a bit if you have a personal connection, like me putting 32 confidence points on U of O since I graduated from there.

Yeah, you can donate $5 on your own, abgemacht, fill out your own bracket and get your roommate to donate another $5 to Kestas, the more the merrier!!

Why would anyone donate money to the owner of a site who chooses to take action against cheating in-game but not when someone threatens and hunts you down in real life?

The person you're referring to isn't exactly a "constituent" :-P ; he has never donated (despite claiming to have), has attacked and tried to undermine me on several occasions, and has falsely claimed to be a developer here.

You can argue that there should be more moderation in the forum, and I'd argue the other way (though I can see both sides), but there's no double standard: Games are moderated more strictly than the forum, for simple practical reasons as well as my own experience of over-moderated forums


Now that I've made that clear I hope you can respect what the thread creator wants (take this debate to another thread if you like), and continue to set the good example that you always have in the past



On the subject of this thread that's very nice of you, sounds like it could be fun, but I'm out of uni now and have two jobs, I've disabled Plura, and money isn't really a problem atm (just time).
Perhaps put it into a pool for the mods, or an AdWords fund for advertising the site? (I could always do that myself if people have already put in)

I do appreciate the thought though, I'm just not as strapped as I was during past donation runs

Kestas, regardless of if you are strapped, I appreciate this site and your efforts so the money will be coming your way. If you want to distribute it to the mods or do something else, I'll leave that up to you (how nice of me, right, give you MORE work to do)! :-)
