Congressional Research Service Report: Wealth Doesn't Trickle Down!
You can download the CRS report from this Huffington Post article. Damn I wish TC were here. I have never missed him so badly. Also krellin, who hasn't been spouting racial slurs ever since I rewrote "Hey Mickey" for him. But hey, the rest of you Reaganomics types, feel free to criticize the report and turn a blind eye to its findings! (link inside)

Step 1 for GOP image reform: drug legalization
N.B.: This is not intended to be a discussion on the merits or demerits of drug legalization. I'm approaching the issue strictly from an electoral standpoint, that is, would this change be a good or bad move for the GOP politically.

I hate to spoil your fun, obiwan, but the Republicans kept the House. The Obama administration is guaranteed to be an ineffective, Level Five clusterfuck for at least the next two years, if he isn't impeached by then.

Any kid who just passed the Bar Exam could convict Obama of any number of felonies. The problem is that the trial would be in the Senate, and the Senate will never convict their messiah, even if he's guilty.

lol Impeachment! What a graceful loser you are.

You know, you really are the worst of the worst, Gun. You don't actually care about America at all. You only care about how much of America is Republican. Instead of scheming in vain to kick Obama out of office, you should be talking about how both parties can get together and actually accomplish something. But, you don't actually want that, do you? That would mean America *needs* Liberals, and you can't have that. You would much rather watch Obama waste his term fighting impeachment, damn the consequences that has for the American people.
LanGaidin (1509 D)
07 Nov 12 UTC
I also like the vagueness of the rationale for impeachment. If any kid who just passed the bar exam could convict him of felonies... at least name the felonies. Obama is not a messiah.. but, for all his faults, I still felt he was a far better option than Romney. Any attempt at impeachment would be beyond assinine. Unfortunately, we're talking politics, where assinine is the norm.

Abge... you actually hit the nail on the head. Both parties appear to have lost the ability to even engage in civil discourse let alone come to the table with a genuine desire to reach common ground.
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))

The more cynical would say that a few of the Republicans will not work with the President have trouble taking orders from a black man...... but I wouldn't say that.
Even the most neanderthal of Right-Wing Republicans must understand that if you want growth it will come in most part from consumer spending, tax the top 10% more and everyone else less, this will lead to growth. This is not an economic miracle, just basic Keynesian economics. Is that so hard to understand? Then you need a few incentives to companies to make capital purchases, possibly in local infrastructure that leads to higher local employment.
I would be tempted to sell off a few of the states to China to pay off the national debt. Alaska could go, Hawaii, maybe the Florida Keys. This is also what Greece should be doing to pay off their debt, lease out the Greek Islands to China and Russia for the next 100 years, maybe that is not as crazy as it first sounds.
Gen. Lee (7588 D(B))

"if you want growth it will come in most part from consumer spending, tax the top 10% more and everyone else less, this will lead to growth"

A short term solution to a long term problem. The national debt has to be addressed. I would be fine with increase in tax on the wealthy, but the spending has to be cut from somewhere as well, the math doesn't add up otherwise. I would also hate to see 90% of the people with more money go blow it, this country as a whole has a culture issue with debt. That is what started this economic collapse in my eyes.
Gunfighter proud that his part plays politics by blocking any solution to the econonmy and the debt and refusing to compromise on anything

60% of exit polls stated Americans want to raise taxes

60%!!!!!!!!!

And the republicans again, despite losing any hint of mandate, despite losing ground in the senate and failing to unseat the president, STILL say no more taxes.

Unfuckingbelievable.

Party of No indeed.
Democrats have been willing to cut. Republicans are completely unwilling to raise taxes.

@ NigeeBaby

Michele Bachmann is a dumb bitch. Very reminiscent of Sarah Palin, except somehow more annoying.

@ abgemacht

Obama (in theory) won't be able to anything for the next two years, because the good guys kept the House. So he'll have plenty of time to fight impeachment if he's not busy trying to work around Congress.

"You don't actually care about America at all."

Hilarious. I'm one of the only people on this forum that seem to give a shit about the foundation of American society, the Constitution. Compromise be damned when the left is using the Constitution as toilet paper by word and deed.

@ LanGaidin

Let's start with treason and go from there. Obama (or one of his underlings) authorized an operation to supply weapons to Mexican drug cartels. If the drug cartels are to be considered enemies of the United States, that would be "aid and comfort" and therefore an act of treason under the US Constitution. You liberals bitched at length about Iran-Contra, we get to bitch about Fast and Furious. And if he lied about it in a hearing that's perjury too.

Benghazi stinks of a cover-up. I'm sure treasonous acts will be uncovered if anyone ever gets to the bottom of it.

There's also the small matter of not enforcing the laws of the United States (his number one constitutionally mandated responsibility), most notably immigration law.

@ SantaClausowitz

I would not necessarily be opposed to a modest tax increase on the wealthy, but I think it's foolish to touch or excessively regulate businesses, especially small businesses in a recession.

But the fact is that the entire budget needs to be slashed, pork first, then entitlements and welfare. Military and VA last. You could tax the rich at 100%, disband the military, and you would still have a sizable deficit.

I love how Obama says "We'll make the wealthy pay their fair share and fix the deficit". Good populist sentiment, but doesn't hold up to basic arithmetic.
Invictus (240 D)

Obama already should have been impeached over the military intervention in Libya.

I too wish Bachman had gone. She was a big player in transforming the Tea Party from a libertarian populist movement into a boilerplate values voter label.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
07 Nov 12 UTC
Like with Bill Clinton, liberals somehow lose their understanding of justice when it is one of their own.
Invictus (240 D)
07 Nov 12 UTC
I mean "should" in the sense that what happened with the bombing in Libya was illegal. I don't think it really ought to have happened. And while Clinton certainly did commit crimes, if the House had just censured him we could be at the end of the Kemp administration rather than the middle of the Obama.

I hope Obama proves us all wrong and they figure something out to save the world economy this winter.

Literally every modern President has done things that could get them impeached, but they didn't. Same thing for Obama. The Republicans don't want to open that floodgate or their next candidate (if they win) will be fighting impeachment their whole term as well.

World War-17
I'm sorry, but this thread is mostly for the mods or admins or gamemasters. We have a game, http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=100329&viewArchive=Maps, and it has been paused for 44 days, 3 hours (24 Sep 2012). The players, the ones who actually still care about this game and haven't given up on it, agree that this is an incredibly long pause and so I want to ask if this could be unpaused or if there is a time limit to how long a game can be paused. Thanx
