Congressional Research Service Report: Wealth Doesn't Trickle Down!
You can download the CRS report from this Huffington Post article. Damn I wish TC were here. I have never missed him so badly. Also krellin, who hasn't been spouting racial slurs ever since I rewrote "Hey Mickey" for him. But hey, the rest of you Reaganomics types, feel free to criticize the report and turn a blind eye to its findings! (link inside)

Step 1 for GOP image reform: drug legalization
N.B.: This is not intended to be a discussion on the merits or demerits of drug legalization. I'm approaching the issue strictly from an electoral standpoint, that is, would this change be a good or bad move for the GOP politically.

World War-17
I'm sorry, but this thread is mostly for the mods or admins or gamemasters. We have a game, http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=100329&viewArchive=Maps, and it has been paused for 44 days, 3 hours (24 Sep 2012). The players, the ones who actually still care about this game and haven't given up on it, agree that this is an incredibly long pause and so I want to ask if this could be unpaused or if there is a time limit to how long a game can be paused. Thanx

Overrated. I think Christie will go Democrat before 4 years is up anyway. I can't wait until he puts Romney on blast.
Christie is going to end up in Obama's second term cabinet.
Ssshhh.

largeham (149 D)
07 Nov 12 UTC
Yep, Obama is already friends with Rahm Emmanuel, two union busters might look a bit suspicious.
Jon Huntsman 2016.

More likely though, it will be Rubio.
Huntsman vs Cuomo would be the best possible 2016 scenario, actually. I'd vote either of them.
Fasces349 (0 DX)

Based on how Christie handled hurricane Sandy I don't think I want him as president.

JON HUNTSMAN 2016!

Wow Goldfinger, we said that at like the same time, lol. I don't like Cuomo, I don't know who I would want for the democrat ticket, I dislike most politicians in the states.
Putin33 (111 D)
07 Nov 12 UTC
Why don't you focus on your country then?
Christie is getting applause from people that hate him about how he handled the hurricane...

I think the republicans are going to try to drift left on social issues in 4 years, Huntsman is not that candidate.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
07 Nov 12 UTC
Honestly, they don't even need to drift on most social issues, they just need to shut the fuck up about them.
Abge is right. They just need to shut up about it. They should drift, but they don't have to.

Also, Santa, Jon Huntsman is an *extremely* moderate Republican. His problem is that he's alienated himself from the conservative base by many of the stances he took.

Fasces I don't necessarily like Cuomo all that much, but I respect his ability to get things done. Its hard to be a NY governor. Glad we can agree on Huntsman :)
Putin33 (111 D)
07 Nov 12 UTC
The churches are the only GOTV machinery the GOP has. They aren't going to drift or shut up.
Huntsman is moderatr besides social issues. In that case he is an evangelical, do your research.
Ill back off of "evangelical" but he opposes gay marriage is strongly against anti-choice, beleves in an absolute right to own guns, for vouchers.

He is more moderate on immigration

"Why don't you focus on your country then?"
I like Harper, sure I could focus on the upcoming Liberal Party leadership, but I don't think anybody else on this site is interested.

"Christie is getting applause from people that hate him about how he handled the hurricane..."
Thats because he part partisan politics aside and started working with Obama. Thats why democrats are praising him. I'm hating on him for enacted price controls.

"I think the republicans are going to try to drift left on social issues in 4 years, Huntsman is not that candidate."
Your joking right? Huntsman was by far the most moderate republican candidate who ran.

"Ill back off of "evangelical" but he opposes gay marriage is strongly against anti-choice, beleves in an absolute right to own guns, for vouchers."
He supports civil unions, making it more of a moderate then people like Santorum.
The place I disagree with him the most on is his pro-life stance.

But who honestly cares about those social issues, the presidents opinion isn't going to make gay marriage legal or abortions illegal.

"Fasces I don't necessarily like Cuomo all that much, but I respect his ability to get things done. Its hard to be a NY governor. Glad we can agree on Huntsman :)"
I'm not from New York so can't really say, but when a state is as left wing as New York, your going to have a legislature that agrees with you which makes it easy to get things done. At least that is my oppinion.
@Fasces - the NY state senate has historically been Republican, and the Assembly Democrat. Governors are split relatively even, leaning to the left a bit. But overall there isn't often a majority that controls the Assembly, Senate and Governorship. And in 2010(?) NY politics was a shitshow.

@Santa - Santa, just because he holds his views one way doesn't mean he would ever implement them. He supports civil unions, marijuana legalization (this I know for sure because he said when he spoke at my university), and really keeps his views to himself on everything else. But he would by far be one of the best Presidents in modern history in terms of foreign policy, would completely re-work the tax code (sadly putting thousands of accountants out of work), regulate Wall Street, balance the deficit, steer us towards alternative energy, cut defense spending and give control of education back to the states. A true right-of-center candidate

Given that I am not from New York I didn't know that. But given that they are one of the biggest blue states I assumed the state legislature would be blue as well.

I disgree that he would regulate wall street, he said he was against subsidies for big banks and oil (which I agree), but that doesn't necessarily mean regulation.

On energy, he supports cap and trade which I use to support, but over the last 5 months I have started becoming one of the those 'right wing nut jobs' who doesn't believe in global warming.
"I disgree that he would regulate wall street, he said he was against subsidies for big banks and oil (which I agree), but that doesn't necessarily mean regulation. "

His campaign website says that he would break apart all the "too big to fail" banks, repeal Dodd-Frank and implement the new Basel III accords instead, and make the derivative market more transparent. That's regulation imo
Fasces349 (0 DX)

I knew he wanted to repeal Dodd-Frank, didn't know he supported Basel III. However I don't know enough about Basel III to know if I like it.

yes, Republicans are wont to forgive honesty, bipartisanship, and genuine concern about the people one governs
semck83 (229 D(B))
07 Nov 12 UTC
lol. I don't think it's that so much as the excessive enthusiasm he showed.

But some have come to his defense (Peggy Noonan, e.g.). We'll see what happens. The real problem for him is probably that he's pro choice. I don't actually think a pro choice Republican has any chance of winning the general election, even if he could win the primary, which he couldn't.
Invictus (240 D)

Rubio-Paul. Rand, of course. Christie is too fat.

But it's silly to make predictions about the next presidential election when we don't know if the dollar will still be the world reserve currency come 2013.

seriously, to point to one party and call them liars and cheats, as if the other is angelic and pure is really an interesting angle on things.

There is a REASON most people hate both parties, because they dont see much of a difference. They all cheat, lie and manipulate.

I do think it will be Christie. Unlike Guiliani who really just ran on a post 9-11 platform, Christie showed himself as a moderate during hurricane Sandy, and a hell of a decent human being. I think he is probably the kind of guy the GOP should look too in the future. He needs to tell his own party to shut the fuck up once in a while too.
Christie vs. Hilary, I think Christie would win.
semck83 (229 D(B))

Christie has zero chance of getting the nomination.
