Non-live "Live" gunboat game...
I am looking for a few players to play a non-live gunboat as if it were live. The honor system rules follow.

Hm. I've never noticed bad trolling on threads regarding new ideas/improving the site except for a few notable characters that just need to be muted/ignored.

May I suggest a bit of Mary Jane to help mellow your harsh? Or even just some tobacco. I have some quality cigars you are free to try that, along with some Glenlivet 17 should mellow you out a bit.

@rok

But, my point is, that doesn't seem to happen in my experience. I've participated and seen many many threads talking about new features and they are all great conversations. There are a few trolls, yes, but most people seem to actively contribute. You seem to be misrepresenting the severity of this problem.
Draugnar (0 DX)

He is getting hounded by Krellin. So I can feel for him a bit. We may disagree on what to do to fix some things, but we have had a good conversation over on the GR thread.
rokakoma (19138 D)
08 Oct 12 UTC
Maybe I am, I don't know. I just feel it useless to put ideas into circulation which I think would actually server the site's interest on the long run. I feel it my duty to try to add some contribution, since I'm here every day, a play a lot, some would say I'm a good player as well, and I'd like to give back something to the site to make it better, if I got so much fun from it.

And when I try it some jerk shows up, with total lack of experience on this site, total lack of respect towards people, the game, or me and my knowledge, and send me to hell saying I'm an ass. Well, I don't like that for the obvious reasons.

It's just Krellin, man. Ignore him. We had some good discussions today and will probably have more good ones if you will stick around. Things will improve on the site in due time, and we can talk to Alderian and Ghost about revising GR and maybe even help with the rvision to make it less "gameable" and more accurately reflect the diverse interests of the community.

@Draug: it's not about the GR, that was the 100th case, the last drop in a full glass of water. If not that, the next one would have triggered this thread out of me. So don't make it about the GR, because it's not about that. I just got tired I guess.

Krellin isn't worth wasting your time on. I agree that ideas should circulate a little better, but if there is any possibility at quicker development it would be cool. I don't think nothing happens, but I think it could be more efficient.
Draugnar (0 DX)
08 Oct 12 UTC
Well, for real development discussions, take them to the developers forum. You will get a better response there than here any how.

Bo_sox - Remember, the devs are volunteering their time, many of them are grad students or have busy lives outside the site. I don't know PHP well enough, but even if IU did, I would only have a few hours each week to give as well. Unless you are willing to pony up the cash, you have to live with slow. Sorry, but it's a fact of life. Free doesn't come fast.

@ roka - seriously if you have an "I never mute anyone" principle, but at the same time you let guys like Krellin get to you, then you're as good as self-harming. It's a sad but true fact that sites like this will always attract a few obnoxious trolls. The "mute" feature really is your friend.
rokakoma (19138 D)
08 Oct 12 UTC
@ Jamiet, you might be right. It's not a principle, I just don't feel the need. But probably you are right, I should mute them, because they get to me, even though I think they don't.

Thank you for your honesty. I believe I better understand what your concern is. Here then, is what I believe to be your confusion.

Anyone who aspires to greatness will be subjected to lots of criticism along the way. This criticism will come from sources that are both helpful and unhelpful. In the internet age the situation is almost certainly more difficult. The nature of self-publishing has lowered the barrier to entry for criticism quite low indeed. Nowadays, pretty much everyone is a Monday morning quarterback.

What I mean to imply is that if you wish to provide great ideas to this forum, you shall be forced to contend with a variety of critics. It is learning to deal with these critics that shall distinguish you from your peers. Trust me, as painful as this may be, every public figure (from Mohammed Ali, Bill Shakespeare, Julius Cesare) were surrounded not only be people proclaiming how great they were, but also people complaining about how much they sucked. If you want to prove yourself better than them, then you will have to move past this.

You might be surprised, though. Many people who criticize you might secretly like you, and it's really not unimaginable to convert your critics to your fans.

I didn't complain, Draug. I said better efficiency would be nice. Never said I'd die without it.

@Al Swear: you might be right, and your words show some light at the end of the tunnel. I think I'm just a the very beginning of that tunnel and I don't see the light getting more intense at all.

This is probably the same reason why I suck at fullpress, I can't stand when other players simply don't understand what I'm saying because they don't have the game experience for that. I mean strategically in my case, because they certainly have the talking experince. Anyway I feel the same in full press games, I provide a great idea strategically (in which I'm fairly good probably according to my gunboat GR) and all I get back the counterparty doesn't get it, reacts the same, like Krellin, without trying to understand or think it over.

Sadly what you say about the lowered barrier to entry is very true, but after 200 games, 1300 forum posts, why do I have to still deal with this? It's a fight into eternity, becuase new entries will pop up all the time (normally) and I don't want to start all over again.

Maybe public figures can handle this, it seems I won't be one of them. But I have no such ambitions, so I'm okay with that :D

I'm going to sleep now, I was here yesterday till 4am, trying to contribute again, but it ended up wasting time. So, I don't want to repeat that :)

Thanks for everyone for his kind words in this thread, most of it felt good to read, pointing out the situation might not be as dire as I feel. g'night

The Great Debate II: Thucy, dub, 2WL,dD_ShockTrooper vs.My Fellow Krellinists?
It seems as if we have a new wave of vocal and talented akrellinist thinkers, who certainly seem as willing as I to type on the matter, albeit from the other end--so, care to debate, say, 2-4 akrellinists vs. the same # of Krellinists, on a thread w/ a neutral moderator, we each give an opening statement in succession (say, 500-1000 words or less), one rebuttal per person, and then open it up for questions, side with the most +1s for their comments "wins?"
