Top 100 Game
I am currently in a top 300 GR game and it's pathetic, so.... I have decided to make a top 100 GR game for 100 D. It will be non-anon, WTA. gameID=99375 If you have interest in the game, don't hesitate to send me a PM, I don't usually check threads after I make em.

So I was reading the Dutch news and it said that yesterday, the American Dept. of Defense placed a call to the reverend who was organizing these Quran book burnings last year to ask him to stop doing that. So I googled it.

CDs
Out of the five games I've played (or am playing) on this website, four were dominated by timely civil disorders / NMRs. Does this always happen? Do I have to give up on Diplomacy forever?
Fortress Door (1837 D)

not always, but quite often. Very hard to find games where someone doesn't cd when they start losing, though big country cd's are quite rare
Fortress Door (1837 D)
03 Sep 12 UTC
and in one day phase games, they are a bit rarer. Live games are filled with them
Fortress Door (1837 D)
03 Sep 12 UTC
one day phase is atually probably the least likely for CD's. Anything more tends to have people having to go somewhere and not being able to get a sitter/pauses
Draugnar (0 DX)

Get involved in passworded games by hanging out here on the forums and the non-live games tend to be more solid and free of idiots who quit when they are losing.

No, it's not really that huge of a problem. Try forming some games by posting on the forum and asking for interest. The people who reply here are much more likely to stick through an entire game then not. You can put passwords on games so you can only let people in with low or nonexistent left/resign ratings which you can check on someones profile. Like FD said, it's live games and games with very low point buy ins that have problems with CD's.

Yeah, just forum it up!
Im in an anon world game and by the time we reached 2005 a full third of countries have CD-d... its just a fact of life. It "unbalances" the game, but its Dip - its meant to be a set of moving goalposts.

Hydro everything others say applies, but as a general rule you'll find that games with a bid size exceeding 100 won't have CDs (those who do it don't have enough points to get in). What worked well for me was to play PPSC early on, and take advantage of the CD's as much as possible.

Even though you'll get burned sometimes, remember that the more people CD the more the odds stack in your favor - take advantage!

^^^ ignore that bottom paragraph. If someone cd's in the beginning, DRAW TEH GAME

@YJ - Gaming the site's point system. Shame, shame, shame...

@Hydro - Some of us prefer to just play 5 point games. But if you set them up as private passworded games, you can get some really good ones going.

I have room for a couple good WTA non-anon games right now and will happilyu play you as long as they aren't live and are full press.

Foreseeably, not for the next few weeks, Draugnar, sorry.

On another note, I just had an idea. If CDs are so pervalent anyway, is NMRing Spring '01 with Italy, then taking Trieste when Austria is gone for the Balkans a smart move, a bastardly, underhanded one (so even smarter), or cheating? Or maybe it wouldn't fool anybody?
Any opinions?

Oh, also, I don't prefer non-anon games, because I'm afraid I'll get "got onto" fast.
Fortress Door (1837 D)
05 Sep 12 UTC
it is a valid startegy, but the opinion of it changes. I myself would think it wouldn't be smart in that case, since you wouldn't be able to get Tunis, but there is much merit to the waiting until the last second to enter orders (so they play based off your cd)
Hydro Globus (100 D)
05 Sep 12 UTC
Tunis can wait, it's not like anyone else can nab it. I'd rather have Trieste - and if Austria sees my units move after all, he'll definitely turn back in A01.
Fortress Door (1837 D)
05 Sep 12 UTC
if you want to do it, feel free. Just NMR in Spring, then wait last second to enter in your next orders.

i would approve of the tactic

Just a thought though, you better not even log into the game during those first turns or else it will say you were there (2 hours ago) or whatever at which point people are going to be highly suspecting that you will put in an order, eventually.
Hydro Globus (100 D)

Anon games don't do that. That is not the reason I prefer them. :)
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))

Drawing a game with a CD is unlikelier the lower caliber your opponents. Nothing wrong with snagging a few free points from idiots so you can get into the better games you deserve.

Finally, the game ended. Now, I can link it: gameID=97939
Behold the brilliant planning of Germany, how it paralyzed even the best strategists first in England, but soon after, France and Italy too. Marvel at the tactical genius which allowed him to cut through the two lines deep French defense. I weep, for my time to learn from the Master has ended.

Greatest NFL rivalry.
I'm a relative newcomer to football (only really been watching the last 3-4 seasons). I live in the Chicagoland area so I know that the Bears/Packers rivalry is among one of the greatest. What are the other (in)famous rivalries along the same lines?

I know I joke around a lot, but this is a serious topic that deserves serious remembrance. If anyone was there, tell your story. If anyone remembers where they were, what they were doing, etc., tell your story.

And no, this is not a place for hate against anyone. Hate is what brings me to post this; hate won't fix it.

What if there were some sort of "ding" when time ran out on turns?
Given that a fair number of people probably CD because they're off surfing the net on other tabs or something, would an audible "ding" at the beginning/end of turns help the problem of CD's?

No specifics yet, til it's over. But, AH CD from the beginning, Russia soon there after. My (Italy) draw/cancel vote up from 1901, as was England's. No votes from Germany, France, and no surprise, Turkey.
