Did anyone *not* see this coming?
A high-ranking Mexican drug cartel operative: “Fast and Furious” wasn’t about tracking guns, it was about supplying them.

Wow. That sounds a lot like the upcoming season of Sons of Anarchy. If this is true a lot of people need to go to prison.

To be fair, the main source of this allegation is coming from a man with every incentive to delay and mitigate his sentencing.

Not that don't think the DEA is willing to stoop to this level, but I am just not convinced that this is something we should treat as factual. I certainly doubt that any official deal was made, and if any immunity was promised, it certainly was not done so in good faith. :/

In any case, the scandal is already pretty incriminating.

Old news. In fact so old is was mentioned days ago in one of the gun ctrol debate threads. Just the Feds getting the guns out there as an excuse to implement gun control by padding the statistics.
Friendly Sword (636 D)

I really don't think that the Federal Government organized this as some sort of unified entity, and I certainly don't think that a desire to initiate stricter gun laws is a plausible motive.

Unless you believe in the grand conspiracy theory that all the recent mass shooters in the last few years were just false flags, designed to look like lone shooters so the evil federal government could justify taking away the people's guns and removing the last obstacle to socialist totalitarianism.... cough Michiganman cough

While I don't pay homage to the false flag theories, I wouldn't put it by the President's staff to see that as a "bonus" to approving action like this. In fact, I think it may well have weighed significantly into the President's decision to approve an operation of this sort.

"To be fair, the main source of this allegation is coming from a man with every incentive to delay and mitigate his sentencing. "

And every reason to keep his mouth shut about it if he wants to live.

"Just the Feds getting the guns out there as an excuse to implement gun control by padding the statistics."

This isn't about gun violence statistics. This is about control of the most lucrative all-cash trade in the world.

@ Friendly Sword,

Hidden in plain sight...That's why they continually get away with these type of things -- because people refuse to believe that such a thing is even possible. Mock me all you want, but governments are by far and away the biggest danger to the People. It's quite obvious to some, some could care less, and others choose to mock others in an effort to make themselves feel like they're correct.

How precisely do you think the Federal Government orchestrated the shootings in Aurora and Milwaukee? Was it responsible for both, or just one of them?
Friendly Sword (636 D)

I am obviously quite incredulous, but I am asking because I am genuinely curious about the specifics of your theory.

Ever heard of MK-ULTRA?
Friendly Sword (636 D)
10 Aug 12 UTC
Yes. In fact it illustrates and interesting pattern. The completely failed attempt at brainwashing was one of the most heinous and secretive programs every done by the CIA. So secretive in fact, that it's existence was leaked to politicians, the media, and affiliated scientists. Most of the related documents were destroyed, except the 20,000 that weren't.

Even at their most sneaky, massive organizations are reeeeeally bad at keeping things a secret.

MKUltra did nothing but harm unconsenting people and feed conspiracy theories.
MichiganMan (5126 D)
10 Aug 12 UTC
Ok, if you say so.

Massive orgs. are reeeeeally good at making the unsuspecting people BELIEVE they're really bad at keeping secrets and that they're too inept to pull of sophisticated false flags.

I say again...ok, if you say so.
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Aug 12 UTC
MK-Ultra operated for 20 *years* without the leaks. So how was keeping it a secret such a failure? Maybe someday, 20 *years* from now we will learn the real truth about "Fast and Furious". Just because it eventually leaks doesn't mean the conspiracy and the secrets don't exist. It just means they may exist and the truth hasn't leaked out yet.

It's not like the US hasn't supplied weapons to an enemy to help them kill off another enemy. That was part of the idea with Iran-Contra under Reagan. Help both Iran and Iraq so their war would last longer and they would weaken each other.
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Aug 12 UTC
There is a difference between providing weapons to one or both sides of an established war (between nations or civil like providing rebels with support in communist countries) and providing weapons to criminals who will use them to increase their criminal empire's strangle hold.
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Aug 12 UTC
Wait! I got an idea! Let's give all the gang bangers in *this* country free weapons which we have recorded the serial numbers, ownership, and rifling marks left on the slug so we can track who killed who? Yeah! Never mind that even *more* innocent people will be killed by these weapons we provide to the criminals.

Taking over and loosing points instantly
I think it is unfair when someone takes over in a game and has to lay in a bet in an unfair situation. For example: it is Autumn diplomacy and you take over a country with 6 SC's, while 2 out of 6 are already occupied and there is not a chance in regaining them. So when the move ends you lose 2 SC's instantly and valuable points. Meaning that the system should consider this possible loss of points. Before you even start you are punished.

SC in Tuscany
The SC in Rome is fairly poor for building fleets compared to the one in Naples. However, of the SC was in Tuscany, Italy's ability to attack France would increase considerable. Conversely, it would also make it easier for France to attack Italy. All in all, do you think SC Tuscany would make Italy stronger or weaker?

Drawing is the last refuge of the desperate
I've seen a lot of people, when their end is getting near, suddenly throw out a vote for a draw. I'm curious how people read this: a last-ditch attempt to escape defeat or simply using one more tool in the arsenal?
