Question as a noob
Greetings gentlemen, I have a little question about adjudication that happened in last game. gameID=90431 It happened in A03, campaign of Greece.
The result was that Italy occupied Greece which I thought it could be a bounce off if I remember rule book right. Anyway, the influence was really small but I'm just merely curious. Thanks for your time if you did take a look at this. :)

Is there any leagues or Tourneys on this site?
I saw the World Cup thread, and am envious I did not get a chance to play in that, but is there other such events here that I could become part of that are starting soon, or going on now that need replacements?

Working in the Romney campaign. Thought I would pass along some tidbits about the Citizen's United decisions and its effect on the 2012 campaign. Which will be the first presidential election where Unions and non-profit groups won't dominate campaign spending. Equality of opinion is here.

I just got given a real Cohiba Cuban - a buddy of mine has access to the real deal through a pilot friend of his. I gave him a starter pipe for his birthday (he has never smoked a pipe before) and he returned the favor with the Cohiba. Sweet!

1901

When you start as Turkey, there are only two dangers in the early phases: a Lepanto and a Russian-Austrian alliance. Well, they both happen. Three vs. one. I get ready for a bloody fight.

In the 1901 build phase, I have to face another horror: Russia is a noob intent on my destruction. When I see him building a second fleet in Sevastopol, I scream inside: You were supposed to build an army in Moscow, fool! You'll destroy us both! However, I remember I did the same thing when I first played Russia. I guess noobs are attracted to that yellow Turkish chunk like moths to a lamp.

1902

While a bloated Austria is getting nearer, I spend the year holding Russia at bay and preventing the Italian Lepanto by bouncing twice in the Eastern Mediterranean. When France moves to Piedmont, Italy gets nervous and retreats to the West. Phew.

1903

In autumn, I lose Bulgaria to Austria. Russia has forgotten that he has a northern border to protect and concentrates on his mess in the Black Sea.

1904

I find myself in the pincers between an Austrian Bulgaria and a Russian Armenia. Fortunately, Austria doesn't jump at the occasion to destroy my support, deciding to defend instead. I guess he is scared of Russia's craziness too.

1905

England and France are eating up the West and North together. Russia suddenly decides to CD! Great. Not only a noob, but also a fucking quitter. I'll remember you, weakling. Austria finally moves into position. I don't have the right setup and my Turkish turtle gets raped in the ass (Smyrna).

Germany is dying and Italy is hard pressed by France. It looks like a F-E-A draw is looming.

1906

I'm down to one SC (Ankara). Austria and Italy fight France together. France is trying to break through in the Mediterranean. A lonely German tank goes as far as Paris to die there. In his dying throes, Germany supports Austria into Munich against France. Italy stabs Austria and moves to Trieste.

In all this chaos, nobody seems to mind England, who goes up to 13 SCs fattening himself on Russia and Scandinavia. He has a great position, so I expect a solo.

1907

I die at the hands of Austria. Italy takes Spain from France, who in turn takes Naples. Everybody finally votes for a draw except England. Next year, Austria will have to form a stalemate line in the East or they will all lose to the pink menace.

1908

In a fit of ambition, Austria withdraws the draw vote. He manages to put up a solid Eastern defense. But in the West, England creeps into MAO while France is still entangled with Italy.

1909

Stretched too thin, England is struggling to stop Austria, who is moving north and west. England still won't vote for a draw. Austria is too self-assured now to accept it anyway.

1910

In Rome, Italy makes a last stand against a weakening France and a mighty Austria. England hurries to eat up France while his weak Eastern back is being nibbled by Austria. Who will be the first to get 18 SCs? England still looks like he might make it, if he solidifies his Eastern line.

1911

Italy is dead and France somehow manages to stay afloat. England is up to 15 SCs, but he's praying for a draw. Austria accepts.

As announced in 1905 already, the game ends as a F-E-A draw. Good game everybody.

Good on the German. It's honorable to fight to the end and not just ragequit.
Zmaj (215 D(B))

SamWest, I agree. Both Germany and Italy did good. No comments from other participants? I guess detailed EoGs make more sense in full press games. In gunboats, everything is clear.
cspieker (18223 D)
30 May 12 UTC
Thanks! That was me. Italy also held on 'til the end and Turkey, Zmaj, almost did, and only held for the last turn. Moving could have maybe bought him one more year, but what is the point at that juncture?

Yes, the noob Russian was the beginning of my downfall. A France building all armies, signalling he's attacking me is bad, but then an opportunistic Russian jumps in with an isolated army to trash my defense, but it certainly didn't help him. Weird. I probably would've died anyway unless England decided to take advantage of France's lack of fleets. It could've happened, I might have done that in his shoes, but once Germany was so weakened by Russia's silly foray, that bought France a build and made him less easy to stab.

It was painful at the end watching England muck up his solo. I so was rooting for him. Also, when my last army was looting Paris, England could have left Denmark German, and then he would have had a raiding party deep inside France. He didn't need the build at the time. Oh well, just sitting there from the loser's seat saying how the winner messed up. Pretty funny.

Lol, I suppose the game would have been more balanced if Russia had left in 1901 already. Cspieker, at my last turn, I was so distressed that I didn't even notice I could move and buy some time. At least it gave me more time to write. I think I love the role of commentator.

i went after russia from the get go. his concentration on turkey was very helpful to me as zmag already pointed out and once i was alble to get warsaw and sevastople without much effort i turned my attension toward germany without getting more armies to back up my german holdings which came back to bite me once austria got big. once germany was gone i decided to stab france, i had considered it several moves earlier but did not go through with it. lucky for me because france got an unexpected build when one of his units was destroyed. when i did attack him i meant to do as cspiecker said but i missordered and only got one france SC when i should have got at least two. it was my mistake and might have cost me the solo.
Great Game all

Well done Seth. I think you could have done better if you concentrated more on France when you stabbed him finally. That would have meant building at least one fleet that year (or getting your other ones over there) and trying to work down into the Mediterranean.

In the East you could have given up Sevastopol as lost, and then set up a defensive line with Mos,Ukr,War, Sil that Austria could not have broken through. Then you could have concentrated on France and Munich and quite possibly soloed.

Like I said before, you could have also left Denmark with German ownership, then my army in Paris could have moved all around and caused trouble for France. Then when you needed one more for 18, or just needed a build, or if my army stopped helping you, you could have taken Denmark. It's much harder for you to see those things though since you have so many units to deal with and things to plan. Whereas I was, of course, completely focused on Denmark, sweet Denmark (and Paris of course!).

thank you for the advice. that was the first game i have come close to getting a solo in in a while so i was a bit overwhelmed/ overreaching. but everything you said is true and would have helped me win, thanks. (good game btw)
cspieker (18223 D)

I guess the biggest thing is once you reach about 12 or 13 in gunboat you've got a shot. At that point you really need to figure out where you are going to get the other six centers, if you can hold the others, and where to replace the ones you can't hold. Then go for it.

I can't believe France was SplitD, he was so lame against England, not once did he threaten English soil, he didn't even go into the English Channel or the NAO, very confusing....... in hindsight I could have made a play for Austria if Russia had been more aggressive but I was waiting for France and England to engage before heading West and it never happened so a bit of a rubbish game from me.....
