Which god (btw, gods =/= religion)?

I think atheism by itself, meaning "without god," implies the union of all the atheisms, orathaic.

@Orathaic never seen it that wawy before, but I guess in that sense all but the most religiously loose person is some kind of atheist. In fact, to not be an atheist of some description is to be incredibly wishy-washy.

Actually that's not quite true. If you're a Hindu (I think) you believe that all other religions are more or less just hinduism in disguise, so that would be the one exception: Hindus are not atheists. Nearly every other discerning individual who accepts at most one religion is some sort of atheist.

^^ discerning used because the majority of religions are sort of mutually exclusive i.e. you can't believe both and remain within the bounds of logic, but (despite obiwan and other trolls' best efforts to prove otherwise) you can follow one religion and still be a rational and straightforward individual, as long as that religion can be backed by reasonable evidence and its teachings manifest themselves in your life.

Does this also acknowledge the existance of other gods, whiles prohibiting their worship?

In fact i think meaning have changed a lot, heroic Hercules was more like a man than a God - fairy folk in Irish mythology and the Tuath De Dannin were heroic of the same stature as Hercules, but are more likely refered to as spirits or a magical people rather than as gods. Are these the things which the bible refers to as gods that must not be put before the Christian deity?

And speaking of hinduism, someone mentioned today to me that it is wrong to describe hinduism as a religion (it doesn't map to our idea of a religion, just as God doesn't map to the BC palestinian idea of God) they said hinduism is more like a system for argueing about religion...

The simple existence of this thread topic is almost insulting to the ideas of any wannabe philosophe. There is absolutely nothing people can do to argue ignorance or superiority simply because there is nothing to assert. The existence or non-existence of God or any other religious matter is simply left up to the meta-debate of life. We cannot assert a metaphysical concept or Truth because there is absolutely no way for us to confirm such. To do so marginalizes our fellow man, in our attempt to secure some of the most dismal intellectual superiority.

A more fitting topic will be one that discusses the effects of various Religious teachings on the present world. Not only is that educational, but it promotes an enviornemnt of compromise and fellowship. Furthermore, you are actually able to run a cost-benefit analysis on the various effects, negative or positive, religion has as a whole on the world.

I reference the teachings of Sun Tzu. "If you know your enemy and you know yourself, you need not fear the result of a Hundred Battles." The true "enemies" or down-merits of religion only exist in delusional hypocrites. It is not fanaticism - it is the disillusionment of man. Instead of ostracizing our fellow, let's band together as dictated by our primal senses.

Hinduism is just the English word they gave for the Vedic Indian religions, which all acknowledge each other.

So not one religion to opress the peoppe but many, eh putin?

I would say more like the latter, but I'm no expert. If it was more like denominations, then there'd be more centrality to it, a common founder, a common creed.

But it has had longer to evolve and as you said they acknowledge each other - thus escape a lot of the western competative stuff, one winner ~ one true god

Does he ever wish he had more kids?
Why did he build the other planets so far away? What's his favourite and why?
What does he think about Islam? Palestine? Al Qaeda? Water-boarding?
Would he support a Mormon for the White House?
