Looking for an excuse to procrastinate, I just spent some time playing around with MSPaint to create a faux Westeros variant dip board. I envisioned eight powers, with starting SCs represented by pink dots and "unclaimed' SCs represented by brown squares. Three powers - Starks, Tyrells, Martells - start with three SCs, everyone else starts with two. All pink dots start with armies, except White Harbor (Stark), Pyke (Greyjoy), Harlow (Greyjoy), The Arbor (Tyrell), Starfall (Martell), Storm's End (Baratheon), and Gull Town (Arryn).
The Twins is a ship pass-through like Portugal. Moat Cailin has west coast and east coast like Spain or St. Petersburg. The dark portions on either side of the Vale of Arryn are impassable like Switzerland, meaning the only land approach to the Eyrie is via the Bloody Gate (although I did create back doors in the Fingers and Gull Town for better playability).
