Obama Publicly Supports Same-Sex Marriage
http://gma.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs/president-obama-affirms-his-support-for-same-sex-marriage.html

Well, it IS an election year...nevertheless, not exactly a great vote-winner in states he won in 2008, necessarily...so--thoughts (both on Obama's backing it, the issue, and what impact this may have on the 2012 race?)

Yet Another Rule Clarification
1. If you attempt to move to a square occupied by your own unit that is supporting another unit do you cut off support?
2. If you support a move to a square occupied by your own unit that you hope will move and an opposition unit attacks the same square without support do you win the square and dislodge your own unit?

I think the answer to both is "no" but I want to be sure.

What's So Great About This Move?
I've been working with Vaft on a more detailed Openings comparison for each country and I came across what appears to be an anomaly and I'm curious, of all the Turkish openings, which do you favor (S01 moves only) and what do you think about this: Con -> Bul, Smy -> Ank, Ank -> BLA?

What goes on in the North (A Gunboat's tale)
As England, sometimes it can be quite mind numbing in a Gunboat to watch a powerful Turkey or Austria have a field day with inept adverseries all around. The reason why its so irritating is because often France, Germany and England waste many good years battling for ground to retake or steal a lone center like Belgium, Sweden, Holland, Denmark, Brest, Liverpool ect ect.

I am guessing not Germany haha. I apologize for the NMRs I had as Russia. My comp died and I got on my iPod Touch and tried to submit orders, but sadly, trying to do it on the iPod is very slow and every now and then I hit the refresh button :( I feel if it wasn't for that, we would have killed Germany and then we could have had a splendeid game following it.
TheFlyingBoat (2743 D)

Oh come off it. I had a live game that stretched for over 6 hours once. I had to pull an all--nighter to finish it.

And for regular games, I've had it go to 1934

Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
08 May 12 UTC
If there is a lack of movement for a few years, aka a stalemate line is set, you can email the mods and they will can draw it. I'm not inspecting the game though, and will not comment on it.
Vaftrudner (2533 D)
08 May 12 UTC
It's not allowed to talk about ongoing gunboats on the forum. However, if you feel a game should be forced into draw, you can e-mail the mods at [email protected]
Yonni (136 D(S))
08 May 12 UTC
FYI, you guys will probably get chastised for talking about an ongoing game but if you bring this sort of BS to the attention of the mods they can force pause and hopefully punish the offending party.

"Hey i was using diplomatic tactics, nowhere does it say I can't do that."

I think I found 'no where' then
"3. Don't work around game messaging/press rules.

If you enter a game with limited press/messaging (such as global-only) then you can't use other methods such as email or PM to bypass this."
Silent_Ghost13 (100 D)
08 May 12 UTC
Though I believe the messaging is a clear breach of the rules, I think one shouldn't contest the length of a live game. A person can't go in thinking, "oh, this will last 10 min." If you go live, you're in for the long haul.
On a regular game, draw. Live is more about stamina. What if the countries in WWI called a "draw" when they reached a stalemate in that very LIVE war? And gunboat takes it's name from gunboat diplomacy, and from that, Germany should have won.
Tl;dr Diplomacy and war in general isn't quick.
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
08 May 12 UTC
^ that sounds like the fastest way to take all of the fun out of the game. SO basically, the people who have the least amount of things to do in their real life (like work, family etc.) will win every game because they can marathon a game on the computer for 10 hours. That sounds awful.
TheFlyingBoat (2743 D)
08 May 12 UTC
They actually called a "draw" on Christmas SG.
Did he just admit to breaking the rules to try and cheat his way to a gunboat win?

lol. Hey, abge. Can we make this four in a day?

How much leeway is there to ban people just for being dicks? Like, say, intentionally dragging out a live game that's reached a stalemate?
ckroberts (3548 D)
08 May 12 UTC
Also that is not a rhetorical question. It's not in the rules what exactly are the limits of being a jerk.
Draugnar (0 DX)
08 May 12 UTC
There are no limits. His cheating by using PM in a gunboat is a bannable offense however.
